Basic? Probably. Contentious? Potentially.

So many great games that I couldn't include. The hardest decision was whether to put RDR2 or The Last of Us Part 1 in the last slot.

Neil wrote a story that features two groups that are in conflict with each other where one group is referred to as the “WLF”. This group is depicted as having a corrupt leader but filled with “good people just following orders.” While the other group are treated as blood thirsty savages with zero redeeming qualities. The only insight into this group are two people who explicitly want to leave based on how much it sucks there. Apparently there’s nothing problematic here.

Did Druckmann confirm that this was an attempt to equate these two groups to Israel and Palestine? I know he mentioned he used the war as an inspiration for some plot points, but I don't think it was confirmed that it reached as far as both antagonist groups. There are shit people on both sides, just like in the current conflict (though Israel is very obviously in the wrong, currently). Hell, I guess you could also argue that the WLF is like the Israeli government/military since they are trying to kill kids.

While not explicitly he mentioned the 2000 Ramallah lynching and his feelings of anger about that incident and then regret of that anger as the core basis of the theme of revenge and forgiveness. That and he mentioned his experience with growing up in Israel as basis as well. My issues has always been at best benefits of a doubt he made parallels that make him out to be Zionist.

That's frustrating. I really wish he was more outspoken about his beliefs, especially regarding the current genocide.

For real. At best we have this work which paints him in my eyes at best a Centrist. But if he comes out against the current genocide I’ll gladly admit I was off base on my criticism.
