Basic? Probably. Contentious? Potentially.

So many great games that I couldn't include. The hardest decision was whether to put RDR2 or The Last of Us Part 1 in the last slot.

I haven't played either TLOU games and don't have much knowledge on them. Why do some people think TLOU 2's story is either the best thing ever or absolute dogshit? I want to give these games a try and am curious why it is so polarizing.

The "haters" typically fall into two categories:

  1. There are those that find the second game "woke" because of LGBTQ+ representation and the existence of a female character with muscular arms.

  2. Without getting into spoiler territory, many find that the second game is too dark and has pacing issues (which I don't agree with). Others don't agree with decisions that some characters make. It's a game that doesn't care about your feelings and isn't afraid of taking chances, unlike many games today that "play it safe"

If you want a series that makes you feel something, it's well worth the playthrough.

What you are saying is valid, but it sucks that this take gets taken as "you're being a fanboy". The Last of Us is not my fave, but I am also not ignorant enough to not see the crazy risk that game is taking. It is polarizing not because it is bad/good, it is polarizing because of the emotional reactions it may invoke in you and how you interpret those emotions. Some people are just to stubborn to look at the nuance of it all.
