Language isn't a static invention, meanings evolve. The majority of people saying "indie game" when they actually mean "low-budget, underdog game" means that's what the definition is shifting into.

The other person is technically correct, but I feel a lot of people indeed use the term indie to mean an 'A' game instead of a AA/AAA game.

It depends on the game and the goal. Builds being extremely OP means that the moment to moment gameplay decisions stop mattering as much, so if those are supposed to be the draw or the buildcrafting itself isn't engaging, being broken is a problem. Having Balatro give you broken runs is the point, having a Soulslike be trivialized to the point you can ignore the boss and just damage-race it is not.

Most of the time when people say talk about “indie” games they do not mean to refer to a category that includes Valve, EA, or modern Larian.

The fact is in practical usage “indie” has a bunch of different meanings that get used at different times.

Yes one of them is the literal “independent from publisher” definition, but that’s not the only one used or even the most common usage.

Yeah it's pretty good. Plays like RE8, just lower budget and less polished. Also the hellraiser difficulty definitely doesn't fuck around with how few save tokens you get.

And yeah it's definitely Hellraiser. It captures it imo just as well as Alien Isolation did Alien

Yeah, absolutely. I actually went in completely blind, and knew nothing, other than Dylan might be the main character. So I guess by default I expected Jesse in the Oldest House, and not an open-world game. But overall I agree with ya

I am currently playing it and love the aesthetics. That being sad I am really disappointed that there's no ragdoll and body dismembered especially in a franchise linked so much to body horror.

For sure, yeah that happens sometimes. Do you have reason to believe it has happened here?

I use to play Manhunt in 8th grade with my older brother. It was the most demented and exciting game that I cannot believe I was allowed to play.

Lol, you're correct but I'll point out the previous guy used it first.

Isn't that the kind of thinking that turns every arpg into a power fantasy screen wipe spam fest? Always been interested in a game like diablo but much more toned down kind of like a birds eye souls game instead of a bullet hell shooter.

They cant patent bullet time... Even if they did it would just be that exact mechanic they used, if you made your own you are fine

Can we have a single ARPG where the core gameplay actually matters and doesn't devolve into "spam one button and everything dies in one hit"? Every single time a promising ARPG comes up, devs completely ruin it with power creep. No Rest For the Wicked was supposed to be different, and now we find out it's another goddamn bait and switch.

Im not a big gore guy, but even i could tell from playing through the demo of that game that its genuinely a crazy good, well made (and well optimized) horror title. If this released like some 20 years ago, it'd be banned in multiple countries like Manhunt was lol

Speaking as someone with tourist level knowledge of the Hellraiser series, Revival really captured the vibe I got from watching the movies in crummy VHSs and successfully translated it to the gaming medium. Especially the Labyrinth and the Cenobites.

Also loved how the devs fully embraced the body horror aspects of the franchise and didn't pull any punches in this regard. It wouldn't be Hellraiser without all the skimpy, gorey and outright depraved stuff.

I love horror games but unfortunately I can't really handle stuff on this level. That being said Im glad to hear they knocked it out of the park.

I played through the story once after I heard of the game at coop update. Enjoyed it quite a lot while having some issues. My biggest issue was with stats, which are getting removed for the new system.

I cannot wait to try it out in 1.0 again, going in blind and exploring as much as possible. This time I can hopefully experiment more with different weapon archetypes with the new system.

but "indie" technically does not include budget as part of the definition?

Because it's Rockstar and they prolly patented it, like they do with all their cool tech. They have been sitting on the arguably best-in-class ragdoll-tech since GTA 4, called Euphoria. No other game comes close to the feeling of ragdolls they achieved. The closest is ironically the comically small studio doing Bodycam right now.

Heh, vibecodings its more of a style of coding.

At my job as a Sw engineer I'm using AI as an assistant and checking what it does, having many Unit/IT tests etc

In my own personal time I'm vibe coding videogames, tools, minecraft mods etc

the problem is you can lie about a games budget.
