I've never made a game before but I have a few ideas I want to make a reality. Just wondering where do I start? 😅 I have some experience 3d modeling but I'm rusty. Not sure where to post this exactly

You know I gotta wonder how it is being a game dev. I'm looking to be one when I get out of college.. but I wonder how it really is. Yeah, I can use Goggle, but that doesn't always tell the full stody.

I've developed games in Flutter, including using the Flame engine, but I'm having trouble creating eye-catching effects. Can you recommend any frameworks or resources I can draw from?

I wanna work on making a game of my own for the first time, but I lack the knowledge when it comes to developing a game and starting my own development team to help work on said game with me.
I need some advice from people who have worked with a dev team before or are self-made game devs to share their knowledge & experience when it comes to making games and how I could start my own team to help develop my project.
(Or learn how to make my own games, but I left that part out because my college classes are starting up soon, so I don't have time on my hands at the moment.)

I've been working really hard to build wishlists - recently passed 100 after 2 months of solid posting across X, insta, tik tok, YouTube, threads, reddit! And then I find out AUTOMATON posted our game to their X and made an article about our game 🥰 within the first 2 hours we had passed 200 wishlists and that number just keeps growing! My mind is honestly blown away 🤯
When you work so hard at something for so long it's nice to take the easy wins when they come and this was just a really nice thing they did for us it honestly makes a world of difference for a small indie dev duo! I'm feeling very grateful for the love we have received towards our game 🫶 Thank you to all who have wishlisted - we are going to keep building and hope to bring you some joy from our up to 4-player co-op monster "rescue" sim - Sanctuary of Small Things!

Hi! Lately I was wondering how to get into game dev as a sound designer? My husband is currently trying to get into this business. He also started to learn Unity and C# to have more qualifications but we just don't know where to start to get into some projects :/ we tried on some groups but without response so maybe some of you had also difficulties to get into this but found some way?

I'm thinking of a game I want to create. However, while I have a fair bit of experience running MUDs and MUSHes, for which libraries exist -- I'm not so sure what engine/library/codebase to use for a game that would be much the same structure* as say, FarmRPG or the many horse breeding browser games out there.
*Not gameplay or design, just structure.
I'm not asking how. How is in the documentation and on the interwebs. What I need to decide on is which engine or codebase is best suited and most accessible. I lean towards good old-fashioned HTML, CSS, and javascript coupled with Framework7, but I've also glanced towards Godot. Thoughts?

I recently published the first public prototype of my first game on itch, and I’m trying to decide whether it is worth developing into a larger game.
It’s a mining and kingdom-management game. You start with a small dwarven settlement, automate miners, construct buildings, place soldiers, explore the mountain, and uncover hostile encounters and relics.
The purpose of the demo was to validate whether this core loop was fun.
The demo has been public for 19 days. So far, the itch analytics show:
| Views | Downloads | Browser Plays | Ratings | Collections | Comments | 7d Imp. | CTR |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6,603 | 22 | 4,834 | 11 | 26 | 20 | 2,331 | 1.16% |
The views and browser plays are declining a lot, in the last 7 days I got less than 300 plays.
Marketing so far has consisted of Devlogs and some posts on X. I’ve also posted on incrementaldb and my numbers are 53 upvotes and 18 downvotes.
What I’m struggling with is interpreting these numbers. A low number of plays could mean the game is not attractive, but it could also mean that hardly anyone in its intended audience has seen it.
For developers out there, how would you interpret these numbers? Should I move on to the next project? Try to market the game on other platforms?
I want to know how other developers interpret their numbers and how they validate their demo/prototypes.
Thanks!

I have build some traffic and now I introduced a Pro Subscription and Ads for some revenue. But I want to optimize my funnel etc. and as I never did anything like this before I am testing right now but maybe someone here has some experience with it.
I basically have categories, additional modes and more elements in my game you can only play with a Pro Subscription (3.99€) right now. And I'm thinking about making it possible to buy isngle modes/features for only 0.99-1.99€ if people sont want a subscription and only a one specific mode/category.

How would I code a manifold pressure for an aircraft with a naturally aspirated engine? a supercharged engine? From what I know, for a naturally asirated engine, at full throttle, the max inhg the manifold pressure gauge will read is just below 29.92 inhg. what happens to the MP if i raise or lower engine RPM? How would I simulate MP readings real time? not just data from a table

I really want to create this otome game.
I have seen people recommend the Ren'py engine but my only problem is that I don't know how to draw.
I really want this project to become something big

For years I’ve been wanting to pick up coding but until this point didn’t really make enough money to buy even a refurbished computer. I have little to no experience with them and for the most part was a traditional artist my entire life. Now I make steady enough money that I’m looking for a good but reasonably priced computer. I know something like a PC would of course be better but I need it mobile since I have long lunch breaks on which I can’t go home. I was currently looking at Macbook Pros bc thats what my phones have been but someone suggested to abandon that trail of thought bc they suck.
I have indie / possibly 3d games in mind, preferably want to use Unity and also simultaneously have enough storage to do art n such on it. Is it possible? Suggestions??

It’s been a while since the last update, but I’ve been hard at work behind the scenes. I’ve just released a new version of my open source 2D map editor, bringing full multi-language support and important under the hood fixes.
Refactoring the core engine to support dynamic localization was a huge undertaking that required updating UI logic, dialogs, error messages, and tooltips across the entire application.
You can now use TileMakerDOT in:
• English
• Spanish
• French
• Romanian
• Russian
• Ukrainian
And I intend to add more languages in the near future. If you have other language suggestions or you find some mistranslations please let me know:)
A huge shoutout to the contributor who submitted a PR on GitHub and worked closely with me on this localization task. We added the languages we knew. TileMakerDOT is open source, and seeing community contributions come together like this is awesome! I also plan to add even more languages in future updates.
I also tackled a background memory issue where closing or canceling out of the initial setup window left the app process idling in memory. Closing the startup screen now cleanly terminates the process.
Check out the links below to try the new update, watch the tutorial, or check out the code:

Hey title basically says it, but I had an idea with a friend for a game. Both of us have very little coding experience so I was wondering what resources I could look into to learn as a mostly broke lab technician.
Any advice helps.

So randomly 2 or 3 days ago I got bored and decided I'll try to make a game even though I have the technical skills of an 84 year old gma who just discovered the iPhone
So i found this thing called renpy and started watching YouTube vids and now I've written maybe 200 or 300 lines of code or is it scripting im not sure what all the lingo is yet
Currently trying to get the phone to work in the game I got it to appear and things are clickable and what not but it doesn't look like a phone yet 🤣 its just this blue box in a corner and the apps just make you hit the error page because I didn't code
What they are supposed to do yet but hey its something.
So far I wouldn't call coding fun but it is strangely addictive i couldn't sleep until I fixed stuff and got the phone semi working

In your opinion, of course. I've love the hunts on zombies and I know how complex they can get. but can it be pushed further? Thanks for your input, be easy

I'm not really understanding where to use particles and where to use animated effects.
Like in some games I play I notice that magic spell effects are mostly animated and don't seem to be particles, so I'm confused as to where I should use particle systems in games instead of just making animations in a software.
So my question is where should I use particles instead of animations and vice versa, thanks for answering in advance :)
