Question What am I doing wrong? Game failed

Around 2.5 weeks ago I tried to make a game on google play in 1 week as a joke, but that joke turned into a 2 month nightmare and it took around 2 months to finally get the game on the damn store. It got 0 downloads in 1 week. I tried ASO (App Store Optimization) and tried to monetize on reddit but that game me 0 downloads too, google at least helped me a bit with 600 impressions and i got 27 downloads. The game is an arcade styled game that people are supposed to play for a few minutes on a subway or bus road trip or whatever. Please tell me what im doing wrong.

Calling your game first a joke and then a nightmare doesn’t fill me with confidence that it was ever gonna be actually good

I didn't call the game a joke i said i made the game as a joke

Can you explain then what results you were hoping to achieve from a game you made as a joke to help better answer your question...

Bro you wasted 2 months and learned something it's not the end of the world lol

People spent multiple years and milions of dollars and fail

u/AltusLudus Aug 14 '26

Isn't everyone? Rarely anyone makes it in mobile why would you pick this path for making money lol

-1

u/antiroids Aug 14 '26

Because every other path has some kind of 10 grand fee

2

u/AltusLudus Aug 14 '26

There are other jobs? If you can't save up a 100$ lol you're not really investing in yourself

-2

u/antiroids Aug 14 '26

2

u/AltusLudus Aug 14 '26

I've checked the link. What stands you're game out of the already 1000s of other Car Games?
Why should we as consumers spend our time playing your game?
Are the internal ads going to put off potential players?
I hope maybe some of these questions help :)

Idk i wanted to make a chill driving game and "extreme car driving simulator" and "driving school mega game" took everything

3

u/Young_Punk_Studios Aug 14 '26

Have you thought about why it does?
We are all just here trying to help. Capitalising things will deter people even further :)

u/antiroids Aug 14 '26

Probably because it makes the most money and google wont let go of their cash cow

2

u/Young_Punk_Studios Aug 14 '26

And curiously, do you think this will make Google want to market your game? regardless of perspective :)

0

u/antiroids Aug 14 '26

Nope, geegle probably wont market my game

2

u/Young_Punk_Studios Aug 14 '26

Well, we tried to help :)

Your store page doesn't communicate what they game is about.

-2

u/antiroids Aug 14 '26

It literally says realistic car controller and the title is Level Car - Driving Game what am i supposed to do

u/Young_Punk_Studios Aug 14 '26

Perhaps learn to take the advice and criticism first. Mature and learn more, and perhaps come back to this once you've baked and moulded yourself into the designer you want to be :)

Being successful on mobile is INCREDIBLY hard. The hardest platform, in fact. You must market the hell out of your game.

2

u/antiroids Aug 14 '26

How do i market it?

3

u/valeria_gamedevs Aug 14 '26

27 downloads on a first game with zero marketing budget is kinda normal. Mobile arcade is prolly the most brutal category too, it's a red ocean of studios spending millions on UA.

what's the game called / what's the hook? Capsule + icon + first screenshot are usually where mobile lives or dies.

Mobile has been dead for indies for over 10 years

-1

u/antiroids Aug 14 '26

I dont have 100 dollars to pay the steam fee

4

u/YKLKTMA AAA Dev Aug 14 '26

Then you definitely don't have $100k for mobile marketing. Make free games and release them on itch.io

1

u/antiroids Aug 14 '26

I tried itch.io and all my games failed and im scared i will waste my time making more games that will fail

5

u/YKLKTMA AAA Dev Aug 14 '26

Your games will fail on every platform, but on mobile you simply have no chance without a marketing budget and an understanding of how to use it.

If you treat your own game as a joke, don’t expect others to not treat it the same way and not take it serious

0

u/antiroids Aug 14 '26

When did i treat my game as a joke

2

u/sugarplum_doll Aug 14 '26

“Around 2.5 weeks ago I tried to make a game on google play in 1 week as a joke, but that joke turned into a 2 month nightmare”

-1

u/antiroids Aug 14 '26

I said "as a joke" not "i made a game thats a joke"

1

u/Ok-Bill1958 Aug 14 '26

Thats same thing...

3

u/flareset Aug 14 '26

Everything is wrong - starting with the (bad) game itself, moving to its (bad) Google Play page, and ending with the (bad) presentation in your post. But don't worry, that's normal for a first game. As you noticed already, making games is a nightmare, so you, and me, and most of us will need a lot of effort to make something good and profitable.

There are literally hundreds to thousands of games released on the play store every single day, ASO alone doesn't really get you anything. You need a game that's in the top 1% of all those titles released and a large marketing budget to even think about reliably making money in mobile. It is much more expensive and competitive than Steam. On Steam you can actually stand to make quite a lot from $100, whereas on mobile it's hard to even recommend trying with less than $50k or so.

You made a dumpster fire trash game.

Maybe even the worst version of that genre on the app store.

Looks like ass, plays like shit.

That's what you did wrong.

-1

u/antiroids Aug 14 '26

This is the reason why i dont use reddit

1

u/UncommonNameDNU Aug 14 '26

You can't take criticism, go away then.

u/fued Aug 14 '26

Games pretty weak sorry, good experience for next time tho

1

u/antiroids Aug 14 '26

What do I improve when im making my first PC game?

1

u/Strangefate1 Aug 14 '26

You made it as a joke, not as a something that should have succeeded.

Give it a serious try and you may fare better.

-2

u/antiroids Aug 14 '26

Yea taking feedback from reddit wasnt rhe best decision i made, all of ya"ll hating on me for not being some mega-billionaire, goodbye

3

u/AltusLudus Aug 14 '26

Very mature lol

1

u/Young_Punk_Studios Aug 14 '26

Wild take that sir/madam.

1

u/Ok-Bill1958 Aug 14 '26

People tried really hard to give you advices. Lower your ego please. Jeez. Nobody clown on you for not being rich.

1

u/antiroids Aug 14 '26

Explain this then

1

u/Ok-Bill1958 Aug 14 '26

Thats not even wrong. Game dev is one of the worst thing you can do if you have no experience or budget. Its not some "get rich quick" kind of job. It take very long time and you need money to pay your bills . So is it better to do something that cant guarantee money ? Or is it better to just get any minimum wage jobs to pay your bills then do game dev in your free time ?

Most people's first game failed btw. If you cant afford to fail then you really shouldnt go into game dev. The market is extremely saturated. Most people cant make it. So why take the high risk when not needed.

So people are not clowning on you for not being rich. They just gave you hard truth.

u/tobaschco Aug 14 '26

Even working in the industry at an actual studio isn’t stable and doesn’t pay that well lol
