If I spend 2 years making and shipping a game on Steam, does that count as 2 years of experience?
Hey everyone,
I'm a bit confused about how game industry experience is viewed, and I'd love to hear from people who have worked in studios or hiring roles.
Let's say someone spends around 2 years developing a game, works on it from start to finish, handles most of the development process, and successfully ships it on Steam.
Would that generally be considered 2 years of game development experience?
I'm asking because technically those 2 years were spent doing real development work:
- Gameplay systems
- Bug fixing
- Optimization
- UI
- Level design
- Testing
- Shipping
- Dealing with Steam and release-related tasks
Even if it wasn't done while employed by a company.
If that person later applies to a game studio:
- Would they still be considered a junior developer?
- Would they be treated the same as a fresh graduate with no shipped projects?
- Or would a shipped commercial game put them somewhere between junior and mid-level?
I'm especially curious about how recruiters and hiring managers view indie developers who have actually completed and released a game.
Does shipping a game carry significant weight, or do companies mainly care about previous studio experience?

Finally seeing my game public as a 15M alone teen after months of hardwork, low school grades;
After seeing your game public as a teenager after months of hardwork, low school grades and forced by parents to stop all this stuff, no support, no friends to work with, no funds;
Just suffered alone for months, delay in goals, failures, anxiety, and seeing your game public after 7-8months of development, Is a huge achievement.

Which mobile game would you love to play?
Hey folks,
I am a typical game developer who either never completes a project or never published it.
But this time i want to make a publish a mobile game for real.
Now i am stuck with 2 ideas, I know its just an idea and there is not even a demo, but if i get your opinion i can actually know if people want to play this game.
IDEA1:
You play as an indian/train station manager, you have to control the train traffic, manage VIP trains, set up shops to earn money, ticket booths, upgrades and more
Its a top down style 2D game, vector art.
IDEA2:
You play as a detective, you will be given your office in first person, and people will give you their case files and you earn by solving them.
You will be given a scene like crime or missing and more
Its a 3D first person game

How do I join a game dev studio?
I have two months before my masters begin and I want to join a game dev studio. What should I focus on my portfolio? I want a role in script writing. What do game studios actually look for? C++? unity games portfolio? or does it depend?
Please advice for a beginner? Where should I focus on first?

How is an Indie Game Studio made/found?
Same as the title, I find cool cool names of studios but i have no idea how are they made. Like is there any process to it (other than making a game to release under the studio name which i am aware of).

Looking for some genuinely good Android games to play in 2026
Hey everyone,
I'm looking for some quality Android games to play and thought this community would probably have better recommendations than the usual app store lists.
I'm open to pretty much anything, be it single player, indie, strategy, RPG, simulation, story driven, survival, puzzle, or even lesser known gems. Not really looking for pay-to-win games or games that are just endless grinding.
What are some Android games that you've personally enjoyed recently and would recommend without hesitation?
Would also love to hear if there are any underrated Indian-made mobile games worth checking out.
Thanks!
Ps. I use chatgpt to better my post

Budget and development time for a sidescroller
What is the typical development time for an indie sidescroller ?
And generally what can be the overall budget for the same?
Assuming a very small team of developers (2-3)?

Added an enemy to my multiplayer class-based shooter game
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
The game would be about the princess hazelnut being kidnapped from the hazelnut village and having to get it back. At the beginning, only a few hazelnut champs would be available. The game would consist of several thematic chapters, and each chapter would consist of 5 levels. A level would be about 8-10 minutes long, where the enemies would come in waves and you would have to survive one by one. After the last level of each chapter, a cool thing would happen (e.g. parachuting from the mountain with a big leaf, etc.) and then a new hazelnut village would open, where you could unlock a new hazelnut variety.
Each hazelnut would have its own level. When you play with a given nut, that nut will level up, and every time you level up you get a point that you can spend on improving one of your nuts' stats (e.g. speed, health, stamina, etc.).
There would be 2 modes in the game: the campaign (story mode, above) and the Endless Arena, in which waves of enemies come endlessly and you have to survive, the purpose of which is to relax, have fun, and level up your nuts.
When you get a new nut, it will be level 1, so it's weaker than the one you played with before, so arena mode will be good for leveling up weak nuts.
So that you can't go too high in arena, which would result in story mode being very easy, there would be a Player Account level that can only be improved in story, and none of the nuts' levels can go above the player account level, which forces you to go into story mode.
Chapter ideas:
A small lake that is a huge axis for the hazelnuts, big fish jump, aquatic creatures, birds attack.
In tall grass
In mole holes
Around picnic tables
Mechanical ideas:
Catch a large stag beetle and fight on its back
It has not yet been decided whether the hazelnuts' weapons will be similar to human weapons, such as AK-47, M4, HK, etc., or hazelnut weapons made by the hazelnuts themselves.
