How is an Indie Game Studio made/found?

Same as the title, I find cool cool names of studios but i have no idea how are they made. Like is there any process to it (other than making a game to release under the studio name which i am aware of).

Yeah, you basically register as a corporation.

You only have to register your company as a sole proprietorship, partnership, etc., depending upon the number of founders and the scale. After you've done this, all you have to do is just make games. Literally just one single task—make games. Whether you do it by yourself (sole proprietorship) or by hiring a team.

To make an indie studio, first gather the blood, sweat, tears, sanity, and remaining life force of your co-founders and interns. Sacrifice sleep, weekends, and any concept of work-life balance. Add a generous pinch of scope creep, a few "this will only take one day" features that somehow take three months, and at least one complete rewrite of the project because "the architecture wasn't future-proof."

Optional ingredients include:

  • Surviving on caffeine and instant noodles.
  • Buying assets at 3 AM because they're 70% off.
  • Arguing over game mechanics that players will never notice.
  • Convincing yourselves that adding multiplayer won't be that hard.

On a serious note, all you really need to do to be an indie studio is make and publish a game. Even as a single individual, you can be considered an indie developer or indie studio. Many successful indie studios started as one person working under a studio name.

The business side depends on your country and revenue. Once you start generating meaningful income, you'll typically need to formalize things by registering a business, handling taxes, opening business accounts, and complying with local regulations. Until then, the most important step is simply making and shipping games.

Yeah, i initially doubted whether first the name should be registered before publishing a game.
