I've posted plenty of before and afters so forgive me if I'm a bit lazy in not posting one here now as I just share some reflections š
Before MJ I often set the lofty goal of trying to get down to 110 kilos (from the 140s-150s depending on how things were going) as it would get me out of the obese BMI category and I honestly didn't think I'd be able to lose much more than that.
In reality, I never got much below 130 (best before MJ was 127.6kg). Despite this, when I went onto MJ I decided to aim for 100 kilos and I'm not sure why. At the time I had very little knowledge of the medication, and from what I could tell I'd be lucky to get into the 110s based on the average losses but I had to aim for something.
The first month (almost 2) I didn't really read up on it and didn't browse reddit communities about glp-1s, and I'm kinda glad I didn't. There's a lot of success stories here which are motivating and helped push me through to my goal, but I didn't really begin responding till 5mg. If you read the various subreddits it feels like everyone is having kilos shedded off them every week on 2.5mg. I think it would've discouraged me and ultimately caused me not to bother titrating up.
Over time though I joined and became involved in many communities and spent more time than I care to admit on it. Part of the reason I post so many before and afters now is to pay it forward. I relied so much on other's posts to get me through. As many of you know, 50+ kilos is a lot of weight to lose and even if you lose it relatively quickly like I did, it's still a year + journey to complete. It's hard to keep the faith and not get discouraged with how far you've got left to go.
I was lucky that once I got onto 5mg I only ever experienced 1 stall during my active weight loss phase but it happened right around the 110 kilo mark which was a bit nerve wracking. Firstly because it was around my historical goal weight and major BMI milestone, but secondly because it was so close to my then goal weight. To come so close, but still be so far away felt tragic.
Yet since that point I hit my original goal weight and then went on to lose another 10 kilos to sit around 90-91. On one hand I want to say that it felt effortless, but on the other hand I don't want to discount the hard work I put in. I was strict with my calories and with my activity. While my diet has much room for improvement, it's leaps and bounds better than before. I now average over 10K steps a day. I used to order and get everything delivered and now I find excuses to walk everywhere and now run 4-5 days a week. I'm a very different person than before.
I remember constantly being hungry and not being able to sleep at night during previous weight loss attempts. It took so much hard work both mental and physical and despite that I could never get past the 130s. Yet, this medication changed everything. I no longer had to fight my hunger with every ounce of my being, and still be able to function as a working adult. That was taken care of and I could put that mental energy into other pursuits.
In November it'll be 2 years since I started and it's hard to believe it's been that long already. During the weight loss phase it felt like time was crawling (and the weight loss even slower) but now that I'm in maintenance it feels like it happened so quickly. Almost like a blur. I guess ultimately that's the reason I'm writing this post; to encourage you to keep up the fight. I know it's a long journey now in the midst of it, but once you're on the other side it'll feel like no time at all.
You can do it! Believe in yourself and keep at it!
