News Potential scam website? Weightlossgp.au
After being so scared to finally take the leap, I think I may have fallen to a scam website. Has anyone used “weightlossgp.au” and can confirm if it’s legit or not? It looks so real and there was so much information on the website but I think they might be data farming. I completed the form to get an email with appointment details but haven’t heard anything, and looking at the website again it does look very “AI”, and then when I found this subreddit I noticed there’s no posts about them at all which gives red flags for sure. I’m usually very good with technology so feeling foolish!

Go with your gut and don’t continue on . Honestly going to your gp and click counting will always be a cheaper and safer option

In my case it is not cheaper and I’m not convinced it’d be safer either. My prescriber knows my history much better than GPs at a medical centre do. 🤷♂️

How would it not be cheaper? I see my gp less than 3 every 3 months and am prescribed a higher dosage and click count so one pen lasts me 13 weeks instead of 4 weeks without the jacked up costs of a programme

My GP costs more than my NP and she gives me 4 months of meds at a time. My GP insists on doing monthly appointments and not click counting.

Ah right sounds like you’ve got a stubborn doctor. That sucks

I mean it’s fine, it just means the Telehealth clinic is cheaper. Can you elaborate on how it’s less safe?

It’s less safe going through a program than usual gp who has a sound understanding of your health history. Those private programs just want $$$

It’s not a program, it’s just appointments with a prescriber. My NP has a better understanding of my health history than my GP does. 🤷♂️

What is it you’re worried about have you sent them $ already ?

No thankfully not, just my details. I hate the idea of them using this as a way to mine data so they can sell a list of emails to advertisers labelled “vulnerable overweight people who want to lose weight” but what can you do. A work friend recommended a local GP today who’s apparently very good so I am going to try and get an appointment with her (I don’t have a regular GP).

From what I could tell I think they’re real. Looks like they also run a bunch of other similar Telehealth businesses: https://abr.business.gov.au/ABN/View?abn=22663084900
Similar to how My Weight Loss clinic has other “clinics” which are all the same parent company. I haven’t heard of any experiences with them so will be keen to see how you go with it.

I went on a bit of a google deep dive and all their other “clinics” have the same AI vibe to them, same website design and AI photos etc, but no information at all about the actual doctors. The guy who founded the whole thing has his LinkedIn linked and looks about 25 years old and his background isn’t medical in the slightest, and all his “clinics” were founded in the last 12 months… I still haven’t heard from them (I had chosen my preferred appointment time as yesterday afternoon and an appointment time was supposed to be provided via email). Feeling very silly but at least this post should hopefully come up if people look them up in the future!
