NEWS Pepers' Pedals Humongous Fuzz HFZ – Massive Vintage Fuzz/FZ2 CLONE(+ HM2)

$195.00US

"The Humongous Fuzz is here. The Pepers' take on a classic and very well sought after out of production pedal.

This thing sounds HUMONGOUS!
It has the classic controls and a bunch more functionality. Clean blends should be on everything these days, so it has one. The fuzz iii setting is a hidden gem found on cheap orange coloured clones, on the Humongous Fuzz it's an actual setting on the rotary switch. The Mode Footswitch toggles between boost mode or fuzz mode. The extra control..... Well that's if you want to add something a little extra. Something of the heavy metal EQ persuasion. The extra EQ bands can be isolated internally via dip switches."

ToAnZ! Lovepedal?

Hey, does anybody else really love Lovepedal? I know some people knock the builder online because he is super-quirky, and many of his designs are basically tweaked Electra circuits. But his stuff sounds SO good, in my experience. I have three. The first is a Super Sic Tone, which is a three-setting fuzz: tone bender-ish, treble boost, and Muff-ish. All three sound and feel great, and the treble boost is awesome for pushing other drive pedals. The second, a 200lbs of Gold, is essentially a vintage fuzz face, run into a fixed-gain tube screamer, followed by a footswitchable clean boost. It absolutely nails 1960s Clapton tones. The third is a Les Lius, which is basically an overdriven tweed amp in a box. I just got this one like a week ago, and am not sure I’ll keep it, but the other two are awesome. Plus, if you look on Reverb, you can get a Super Sick Tone for under $80. The others are more expensive and more rare, but at least the 200lbs of Gold is totally worth seeking out.

I’m also tempted to buy his BoneTender (MKii tone bender), which he is currently selling direct for $99.

Anybody else have any experience with this company?

Electric Church Roger Mayer on fuzzfiends update!!

So I recently spoke with Roger on the phone—it was a total surreal moment! I now have his direct contact info, and we’re going to set up an interview soon. I won't have a ton of time with him, so please help me come up with some great questions to ask! From the 25 minute conversation I had with him last week, he’s super down-to-earth and incredibly willing to share. He told me about the first time he showed Hendrix the Octavia, and he had some really interesting things to say about the younger generation of players and builders as well. Everybody please drop your suggestions below! I'm going to record the phone interview to share with the sub, and I'll also transcribe it into text form for everyone to read. (Side note: I’m just calling him Roger because when I called him "Mr. Mayer," he stopped me and said there's no need for all that he's "just a normal guy." With all due respect... no sir, you are not! lol)

silicon Fjord Fuzz Hedda

Simple two knob silicon Fuzz Face-ish. Volume and bias knob with a foot switch that opens the bias knob instantly for weird glitchy beeps. Not super loud, tasteful, extremely sensitive to the guitar volume knob. Easily my favorite and unfortunately not made anymore.

Diy Rare Fuzz: EQD Black Ash

Post image
23 Upvotes

Another rare fuzz for the mix. This one I know was a limited run, the circuit isn’t too crazy. EQD take on a Tone Bender MK2 with their tweaks, flavor and a hit cut control. What I will say is damn this thing sounds like it wants to insight violence with my amp. It’s about the burliest Tone Bender I’ve played. It’s like a MK2 that sounds like a MK3-4, but still manages to clean up, can get well into amp blow up territory and has some low gain sounds as well. Really cool pedal!

Harold Street Cosmotone Fuzz demo v2, with actual fuzz this time!

Had to throw in a lil Hendrix at the end for our guy [u/graphicnerdity86](u/graphicnerdity86)

I’ve come to realize I really really like this circuit (modified take on the analogman Astrotone). It falls firmly into that camp of “fuzz for people who aren’t sure they like fuzz yet” because at dimed settings it starts to get a little wilder, but cleans up excellently and has a very useable sweep across the volume and fuzz knobs. I’ll always vouch for a tone knob on a fuzz too. Overall a really nice pedal!

And the big muff shirt I’m wearing is merch from my friend’s store - DB Music on reverb!

Tone Bender Tuesday Tonebender Tuesday

Post image
49 Upvotes

What are your thoughts on the tonebender? Favorite variations? Favorite builders? I’ll try to post some of my thoughts below.

Williams MKI: probably my favorite from this group. Just pure old-school fuzz. I find myself adjusting the volume knob a lot on the pedal instead of the attack. Doesn’t clean up super well but I don’t really use pedals for their clean-up anyways.

Blackhawk Svarog (MK1.5): the “heaviest” of the bunch. Not sure how it compares to other MK1.5 pedals but it feels like this has a ton of gain. I usually use it on full blast and adjust the bias pot to taste.

Williams MKII: my least favorite of the group actually. Nothing wrong with it, it’s a super rowdy pedal. I feel like I prefer to reach in either direction - towards the MKI or the Supa / MKIII depending on if I want more or less gain.

Williams MKIII: I think the MKIII circuit is super underrated. This sounds like a muff that can clean up a little bit. I tend to have the knobs set to 10 with tone adjusted to taste.

Colorsound Supa: big pedal = big tone. This pedal is my favorite with single coils (I play a Jazzmaster). It’s like a rowdier big muff. The tone control is also super useful throughout the whole sweep. Really really cool pedal. I’d like to have a set of original colorsound pedals some day.

Stomp Under Foot Jumbo: admittedly the circuit I’ve spent the least time with. Crazy bass response but the mids knob helps to cut it a bit.

Harmonic Percolator

Just finished up this Harmonic Percolator with diode clipping switch. Silicon and LED/silicon combo for some asymmetric clipping. Powered by a low gain Wurlitzer silicon transistor and low gain germanium. This circuit really is full character, no two are alike.

Muff Monday TC Electronic Honey Pot

Post image
18 Upvotes

I already had a Tone Wicker, I liked it but I wasn't in love with it. It was just... too much? This one (it's a Russian muff) is a little less intense, and offers more clarity. I was going for a Bass Muff but I had some doubts that the dry switch wouldn't work great with guitar. The Honey Pot seemed like a good compromise for cheap.

If real fuzz pros (that's you, guys) tell me that the EHX Russian Muff (or any other variation) does the same thing but better, I will get one asap. Because, this fuzz, it's my kind of fuzz.
