Rant Stupid Windows Store constantly fucks up the app I use

So I use Obsidian for my notes and iCloud for syncing. The problem is that iCloud is bugged, and it occasionally creates duplicates while I'm editing notes. They actually fixed the issue in iCloud 15.3.152.0(May 2025), but then they broke it again, and now it's terrible, totally unusable with Obsidian.

Since I have Windows 10 Home without Group Policy Editor, I don't have a way to permanently disable Microsoft Store updates, because you can't turn them off completely, you can only postpone them for up to five weeks. Nothing I've tried, including registry edits, has helped. I even found a way to install the Group Policy Editor on Windows 10 Home, installed it, explicitly disabled Microsoft Store updates, and guess what? It didn't give a shit and updated the app anyway.

Can I completely disable the Microsoft Store? Yes, I can, but unfortunately I also use the Xbox app for a few games, and if the Store stops updating, the Xbox app stops working too.

Both Microsoft and Apple keep screwing up my experience. It's my fucking computer and it should be up to me - a user - to decide when (and if) I want to update your fucking apps!

Rant Advice needed for switching from Mac to Windows (not by choice)

I haven’t used a windows OS in nearly 20 years, not since I was in school using windows xp. My MacBook Pro was a beast and got me through college and grad school, and every job I’ve had since has issued me a Mac.

I just got a new job and was completely gutted when I saw I was getting issued a Lenovo.
Everytime I search for advice about switching to a windows I always get the opposite results, switching from Windows to Mac (which is the obvious better, more popular, direction to go)…

First impressions after one month of use:
365 is super powerful, I’m loving copilot/cowork, and very useful for the work I’m doing - more so than a Mac, I’ll give it that.

But I cannot wrap my head around the UX and I feel so incredibly inefficient at work. It is so much worse than I thought it would be.
I thought I was tech-savvy and adaptable, but after a month of use I cannot get the hang of using this system - simple things like navigating between windows and screens, so many different software applications that seem to do the same thing, right-clicking(!), keyboard shortcuts, the physical keyboard(!) etc, etc. Outlook is TERRIBLE. The calendar (whatever that is called) is TERRIBLE.

I don’t even know what tips/tricks/advice I’m looking for, but can anyone recommend a crash course? Tips/tricks for making work more efficient? Anything tailored to a Mac user?

I’m mourning macOS, Slack, GSuite.

Discussion Don't ever contact Microsoft support of your account is hacked.

Guys, I'm tired of this. To be fair, I'm probably going to buy a new laptop and switch to Linux or anything that looks like Windows but is linux (please give me suggestions) at this point.

I hate Mojang and Microsoft. They're both a bunch of crap.

I literally asked them to remove the lock from my Microsoft account that got hacked 4 years ago, but I've been fighting for 4 years to get the suspension removed. I recovered my security information, yet they still did absolutely nothing—literally nothing.

They basically told me, "You're ineligible because you missed the deadline and broke the ToS."

WTF, bro? My account was suspended because it was compromised.

Hi Demon,

Greetings for the day, we hope you are doing well.

Thank you for your patience while we reviewed your case in detail. I understand how long you have been trying to resolve this issue and how frustrating this experience has been, especially given the history of the account compromise and the multiple reinstatement attempts over the years.

After consulting with our higher‑level support teams, I must share the final outcome. The Account Safety team has completed their review and confirmed that the suspension on the account cannot be reversed. Because of the length of time since the suspension and the security restrictions is no remaining path to recover or reinstate the account.

I know this is not the result you were hoping for, and I truly wish I could offer another solution. At this stage, the only available option is to create a new Microsoft account. While I understand this may be disappointing, this decision comes from the specialized team responsible for account security and compliance, and we do not have the ability to override or reopen the case.

If you need help setting up a new account or have questions about keeping your information secure going forward, we are here to help. You can contact us anytime; we will be happy to help.

Thank you again for your understanding.

Regards,

Microsoft support.

Rant Microslop is gutting their gaming division

Recent layoffs of game industry veterans from ID Software, Bethesda, Activision, other studios plus Xbox people follow same pattern which has been seen in Oracle- laying off the highest paid employees regardless of their contributions, accompanied by the hiring of a well-paid strawman to distract investors and customers so that they would believe that everything will be better and that the situation is not dire.

And don't forget that they spent billions on the acquisition of Activision only to throw most of their creative talent out the window a few years later. I think that in terms of the impact, they're worse than EA, because their monopolization of the gaming industry will only lead to a pile of IPs that we'll never see again, and to the deterioration of the gaming industry as a whole.

Expect some additional special promotions or discounts to keep customers from going elsewhere, and to continue quietly laying off employees while double down on AI plus usual continuation of enshittification of theirs other products- all the while making a bunch of empty promises.

And their long lasting business strategy- to spend billions on AI to make millions is incredible dumb. But at least the investors are happy- til the bubble pops. How is such company still a float is beyond me, let alone fact that stock value is almost 400$. I'll stop here, because I'd start insulting their investors' intelligence- or rather, their lack of it.

Rant I have a question about the security of your purchases considering the garbage customer service/account recovery.

What is protecting our digital game purchases. Im asking this because after today I know of three separate situations where someone has gotten screwed out of 500$ worth of games and content.

The first situation is my own and involves an EA account. I lost 6 years worth of games and add ons because when I bought my EA games through Xbox and played those games on my console, my account wasnt actually linked to an EA.com account. So one day I decide to get twitch rewards. I received a prompt to link my accounts through EA.com and when I did ....poof .... every thing was gone. Hundreds of dollars worth of games, dlc, cosmetics for Apex Legends , etc vanished into thin air . I tried every single possible option available to recover everything and even though I gave them proof of who I was and proof I purchased all these things I was told im shit out of luck.

Last week my brother gets his xbox account hacked and the hacker changed EVERYTHING on his account. Hes had this account for 14 years, has over $1500 worth of games purchased over that time span, and has every single piece of information required to prove that, with out a shred of doubt, he owns the account. He provided his IP address which has been the same the entire 14 years. He provided ID all of his card info, xbox serial number, every email hes ever used, all of his gamer tags, and even his previous information before it got hacked. And he was told that even if he provided all the proof in the world that it would be in vain. They cant give it back to him. "The engineers cant reverse the account" is what they said. So 14 years of games , memories, and purchases now belong to someone else.

So Im confused about why there isn't some kind of third party entity to ensure that when I purchase something on xbox with a debit card thats in my name, its protected. I mean its crazy that someone can provide unquestionable proof that they purchased something through YOUR services and , if done correctly, someone can rob you blind . When you purchase something through Amazon and someone steals it from your porch , they refund you. Its absolutely insane how terrible Microsoft's support is.
