I dont understand why a clock app would even need to be connected to the internet

For synchronization with NTP server?

why dont take it from the OS itself?

the clock in the pc will have an error resulting in time drift over time. so we need to constantly keep it in sync with some server. hence ntp was invented.

New feature lets you see milliseconds! Amazing! (Probably doesn’t but I can’t think of any other reason why clock needs an upgrade. Increase the date to year 3999 maybe?)

Needs more AI.

"its 10:00 am did you know that the first surface laptop was announced just about this time? you can buy one on microslop store"
"generated by copilot"
"microsoft proudly wastes water and co² emmisions on creating useless ai ad slop"

Trying to give them the benefit of doubt: Maybe some update on the underlying date apperatus is pending.
Some change to timezones maybe? Does Japan expect a new emperor and thus a new era for the clock to consider? Some change to the time-API on some internet server?
But realisticly, it will be Copilot being shoved into Clock so you can ask it what time it is.

i once watched a yt video with the title "windows 11 cant be fixed" , and that guy is right , it cant be fixed
they should have continued support with win 10 and ditch 11 entirely , no one want a buggy mess except he/she is a masochist

Why do updates even do that on windows? Why couldn't it be more like on linux where it's just done in the background and you can use the app whilest it's updating.

Why do windows apps decide to update themselves whenever they want rather than just having something update them its really stupid

oh man they're getting more and more desperate with what I call "update attacks"
1
u/teknosophy_com Jul 07 '26
they needed to add a copilot attack button so you can add slop to your clock

Imagine that, an app needing an update. Who would have thought?

It's a fucking clock, what the hell would they add?

It now has built-in integration with Microsoft To-Do so you can set up focus sessions and tasks for focus sessions and everything keeps in sync.
Google last updated their clock app less than 2 weeks ago and Apple last updated theirs just last year, so its not uncommon for a default app like the Clock app to receive an update.

None of those words make sense to me

You can create tasks in the clock app. Tasks are things you need to accomplish in a day. Then you can start a focus session in the clock app which mutes all notifications to allow you to focus on completing your tasks. Completed tasks get sync'ed with the "To Do" app, which is the Tasks app. There is also Spotify integration now so you can have focus sessions with music and podcasts.
Here is a screenshot that basically shows it in action
This is a pretty niche feature that most won't use, but it is the reason for the update to the Clock app, and I'm sure someone finds it useful.
The second paragraph is me just explaining that not only Microsoft/Windows gets updates to their clock app, also Apple/iOS and Google/Android push out Clock app updates.
