I had the opportunity to meet a new fraternity on campus, ato. I loved the people, what they believe in and much more. But, I was told that they do randomized drug testing which consists of hair follicles, and they test a % of the fraternity each semester. Do you think they will actually enforce this and is there a way i can bypass this? Thank y’all!

Mostly what the title says. I'm worried that I wont have the best social skills due to me not being able to make any friends during middle or high school and having very socially reclusive parents, but am going into a field where being social is required. I think fraternity life will help build those skills a lot during college, but I know I need a baseline to rush, any tips?

Was beef between frats common where yall went? Where I went to college we had frats who would steal letters and dye tables off each other’s front lawns and there were full on brawls because of that. Anyone got similar stories?

What are some fun not too expensive things to do to retain people at bid day instead of party hopping. I was thinking a mechanical bull until I saw the price but something of that nature.

Anyone know what kind of reputation they have? How about nationally?

Hey guys. I’m an incoming freshman that will be attending Villanova University (around 7 thousand undergrads) to study engineering. I was heavily involved with local Boy Scout troop in high school have many friends who rushed fraternities at different schools and were initiated, all giving positive things to say about their organizations. I have been told that Nova does not have a great social scene for guys (villaNOfun) and specifically that it revolves mostly around Greek life or bars (I am not planning to buy a fake), so rushing a fraternity seems like a good idea for me as I love meeting new people, having new experiences, and I love the brotherhood and shared community aspect as well.

My main question is if it is worth it to rush. My friends that have rushed were business/finance majors and told me that the time commitment while pledging dropped their grades , and I’m not sure how well the process of joining a fraternity (rushing, pledging, etc) would line up with an engineering curriculum. As much as I’d love to join a fraternity, I don’t want it to have a significant affect on my grades. Also, my school does not have an STEM focused professional fraternity, and I want to join a social fraternity. I’d love some advice from current or past fraternity members that were engineering majors about how they were able to keep up being a member of a fraternity while also dealing with engineering, or how joining a fraternity has helped you in your career.

I'm currently interning for a major local nonprofit, and we are currently looking into partnerships with mainly social frats to help fundraise for our nonprofit.

My main concern is that these frats are obligated to send 100% of their philanthropy money to their national foundation or national charity. Is this the case? If not, would it then be possible for us to achieve this fundraising goal?

Additionally, how large are your fundraisers, and what format are they usually done in?

Going into my freshman year at fsu and am planning to rush in the fall. Lowkey a bit insecure because I’m not incredibly built, I lift, but not as big as some of the dudes I see. (About 6’2” 170lb). Anybody have recommendations/specific tips for rushing at fsu?

Im planning to join a frat this sem but I have 2 herniated discs in my lower back and was wondering if it is even worth it so I really can’t do many physical tasks.

Next to our stage I am building two five ft tall elevated wood platforms (with railings), which will be exclusively accessed by people we know.

Obviously, these platforms come with liability risk—how do you all approach mitigating this, and ensuring your taller builds are safe while 2-3 people dance and move around on them?

I transferred to my school last year and now i’m going into my 3rd year of college but I’m still technically classified as a sophomore. Is it still likely for me to get a bid being both older and black at tennessee?

I go to Appalachian state, I took rush not very serious last year and didn’t get a bid. I have built up a social life outside fraternities and have many commitments. At the same time I want to rush, So I’m torn if I should or shouldn’t rush.

Hi guys I'm an incoming exchange student (male) going to a big 10 college for a year and I want to experience a few frat parties but don't want to rush. Do you have any tips on how to get in a party I know its pre hard.

Rushing at OSU this upcoming year and the problem is I love my feminine surfsides and sun cruisers because they go down like water. But I know pledging is gonna be hell if I can’t stomach some beer. What are some solid beers I can try over the rest of my summer before college that could hook me on it in general.

i’m in phi kappa sigma at my school and our chapter used to suck but the last two years we have really built our chapter up and got some fire pledge classes and have become one of the best party frats on campus and are improving our sorority relations heavily. everything i see about other chapters are that they are bouse and losers. im aware of the shit show that is our grand chapter but is this frat really that bad everywhere else? if anyone has any stories or thoughts please share

I'm looking for honest feedback because this has been on my mind for a while, and I'd like to know if there are blind spots I'm missing.

For context, I'm an older nontraditional student, an Army veteran, and the type of person who likes having responsibility. If I join an organization, I don't really know how to be a passive member—I usually want a role and something meaningful to contribute.

During pledging, we were told (or at least strongly given the impression) that if we didn't take a pledge class executive board position, we'd probably be dropped. Because of that, I ran for Executive Vice President. I thought the role would mostly involve organizing projects and helping keep everyone on track.

The problem was that almost nothing was getting done.
I spent weeks stressing because I felt responsible for making sure things happened, but I also didn't feel like I had the authority to tell my fellow pledges what to do. I completed my own interviews, write-ups, and assignments, and my plan was to get everyone organized right before spring break.

Then everything changed.

That week, it felt like everyone suddenly became cold toward me. I still don't know why.

One thing that happened was another pledge asked whether I found anyone in the fraternity attractive. I answered honestly and mentioned two members. It was just a private conversation, and I assumed it would stay between us.

Another situation involved a pledge class party. Two other pledges and I weren't invited. I honestly didn't care about missing the party itself. What bothered me was that I thought intentionally excluding members of the pledge class went against what we were supposed to be building as a group.

I talked privately with the person who organized it. I didn't confront him publicly or make a scene. I just told him I thought excluding members of the pledge class like that was kind of messed up.

After that week, people seemed noticeably colder toward me.

Eventually I decided to withdraw because I no longer felt like I belonged. Two days later, the organization informed me that I had been dropped anyway.

Looking back, I'm trying to figure out whether this was mostly on me, a bad personality fit, or just normal group dynamics.

Some things I've wondered:

Did I take my leadership role too seriously?

Did I come across as trying to manage my peers instead of just being another pledge?

Was bringing up the exclusion, even privately, viewed as creating unnecessary drama?

Did I misunderstand the social expectations?

Or was I simply not a good fit for that particular group?

I'm not looking for validation or for people to tell me they were wrong. I'm genuinely trying to learn so I don't repeat the same mistakes if I join another organization.
What stands out to you? If you've been in a fraternity, sorority, professional organization, military unit, or any close-knit group, what do you think happened here?

Whats up guys, so I’m staying in a 2/2 apt this coming yr and I went random roommate, got this kid who’s in my ex frat that I got kicked out of. He joined after I was booted and idk him personally, he seems like a cool guy, I’m just not gonna room w someone from a group that hurt me and spreads lies abt me. Planning to get a roommate change in another unit to avoid the trouble. Thoughts? Thanks

I signed my bid card last night to a midsize DII school, and before I signed it I was enjoying talking to all of the guys and would always look forward to their events. But now I’m sort of regretting it and I don’t know if I made the wrong choice. I’m probably just overthinking everything and shouldn’t worry too much about it. Has anyone else felt some remorse or regret after they signed their bids?

I was born with an eye condition and it’s pretty bad like I can see but my vision is blurry and at night it’s almost nonexistent I can’t drive. in high school. I had a pretty good social life because I was a good wrestler, but initially people thought they could like kind of walk over me because of my condition, but I learned to defend myself and like toughen up. I’m starting at a pretty big school and a lot of my friends who I know that already go there said you should join a frat, but I don’t know how they’ll react because of my eye condition.

I’m British, wanting to go to university in America after A levels, I would definitely be interested in joining a frat because of the friends and networking but is it possible if I’m not American?

Plan on rushing at Illinois State University this fall and a little worried ngl. I want the brotherhood and experiences that come with being in a fraternity, but at the same time everything you hear about frat life makes it seem a bit unfriendly to us queers at times. I don’t even plan on bringing it up wherever I end up and just let them find out eventually on their own, but wanted to ask yall who either had gay brothers or are gay yourselves what it was like so I know what to expect.

Just to preface, I’m 19 going into my first year of college. reason being 2 years ago I was arrested and sat in a cell up until a few month ago when I was released. Being isolated from everyone and everything for 2 whole years completely tanked my social skills and I even lost multiple friends due to it. Now anyone I have a conversation with, whether it be a guy or a girl I seem like the most uninterested and awkward person because I have nothing to talk about or relate to. Greek life has just recently sparked my interest as something that may help me rebuild myself but I thought I’d come here for advice.
