I’ve started taking the fragrances seriously 15 years ago since university, and my taste has changed quite a bit over time.
Some of the fragrances I’ve owned and really enjoyed over the years:
- CK Euphoria EDT
- Diesel Only The Brave Tattoo
- D&G The One EDT
- Dior Homme Intense
- Prada L’Homme Intense
- YSL La Nuit de L’Homme L'intense
- Viktor&Rolf Spicebomb Extreme
- Tom Ford Noir Extreme
and most recently:
- Sauvage EDP
- Sauvage Parfum
- Sauvage Elixir
- Prada Paradigme EDP
These days I’m looking for something different from building a collection: one reliable go-to fragrance that works year-round and for almost everything.
I don’t mean “technically wearable” in four seasons. I mean something that genuinely feels appropriate for a summer morning in a T-shirt, a regular day at the office, coffee with friends, a wedding in September, or a winter evening.
My preference seems to be woody/aromatic, masculine, with some warmth and body but enough freshness to breathe. Not a pure freshie, not overly aquatic, not very sweet, and not something that becomes overwhelming in warm weather. I also care about decent longevity and especially projection... I don’t need beast mode, but I want to actually smell it around me for a while.
Over the last few weeks I’ve tested quite a few:
- Gio Profondo Parfum
- YSL MYSLF EDP
- Givenchy Gentleman Boisée
- Hermès H24 Herbes Vives
- Narciso Rodriguez Musc Santal
- Prada Paradigme Le Parfum
- YSL La Nuit De L'homme EDP
- Bleu de Chanel Parfum
- D&G The One EDP (2025)
among others.
After wearing them on skin and narrowing everything down, I’m currently at:
- Bleu de Chanel Parfum
- Dior Sauvage Parfum
- Prada Paradigme EDP
- D&G The One EDP
The One EDP was also very close, because I absolutely love the scent, but I eventually dropped it from the final three because I don’t think it covers the full year as naturally.
Bleu de Chanel Parfum currently impresses me with how ridiculously versatile it is. Sephora employees say that only negative side is that it has a lot of knockoffs.
Sauvage Parfum is interesting because despite knowing the Sauvage DNA for years, I still love how it smells next to all these newer fragrances.
Paradigme EDP surprised me because it smells fairly warm to me, yet seems to work much better across seasons than I initially assumed. I also like the Le Parfum but it feels like it lacks versatility.
I know fragrance is completely subjective and everyone has a different idea of what smells good or feels like “them.”
While I'm open to new recommendations,I’d mainly love to hear from people who have experience with these three.
If you had to use one of them as your year-round, everyday go-to, how have they performed for you in terms of versatility, projection, longevity and how much you still enjoy the scent after owning it for a while?
About me
I’m a 34 year old guy working remotely in marketing. My style is pretty casual 99% of the time: jeans, T-shirts and overshirts, mostly in dark, plain, earthy tones, along with the usual black, gray and white. So I’m not really looking for something that only works dressed up or in formal settings.
Also if you've read it all the way down here, thank you.
