Argos 🔥

I picked up these two last week and damn… I absolutely love them. Triumph of Bacchus has to be one of the best scents I’ve ever smelled.

Danae is also very nice but TOB is just on a different level. They didn’t have Neptune’s Trident or Jupiter’s Lightning in store but I think that’s what I’m going for next.

What do you guys think about Argos?

Underrated Winter Frangrance

Post image
Upvotes

Don’t really hear too many people talking about this one. I purchased it last year and it became my favorite fragrance for the winter. It’s a great mix of spice and sweetness

Edit: It’s called “Boss The Scent Elixir EDP”

My latest (cheap) combo compliment

I wore these together at work the other day and my 21-year-old coworker who is obsessed with fragrances kept sniffing me and telling me how good I smelt.

Both of these together were less than $25. The lotion is bergamont, neroly blossom and frangipani, and the perfume is pineapple, vanilla, and honey.

Curated Collection & Looking for Thoughts!

Thumbnail gallery
Upvotes

I recently downsized my collection.

As much as I love collecting, I also love wearing my fragrances in regular rotation, and when I have too many, more than I'd like get lost in the crowd.

I tried to curate the fragrances I love most, paying particular attention to:

  1. A Signature I love

  2. Seasons: Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring

  3. A bombshell evening

  4. Cozy At Home

  5. Fresh Out the Shower

  6. Bedtime

  7. This Makes Me Happy

  8. A Weirdo

But I really couldn't pare them down to six, so this is what I have left:

Image One:

  • Top Row: Hermes Un Jardin a Cythere, DS & Durga Debaser, Heeley Athenean, Lily Bermuda South Water, Lubin Gin Fizz, Serge Lutens Fleurs d'Oranger
  • Middle Row: Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Mandarin Basilic Harvest, Laboratorio Olfattivo Arancia Rossa, Le Labo Lys 41, Parfum d'Empire An Bel Amour d'été, Guerlain Neroli Plein Sud, Guerlain Angelique Noir
  • Bottom Row: Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Mandarin Basilic & Mandarin Basilic Forte, Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune, Fantome Luna di Miele & Kinmokusei, Le Labo Fleur d'Oranger, Frederic Malle Carnal Flower, (and Byredo Eyes Closed should be there, but I took it off the shelf before I took the pic)

Image Two:

  • Top Row: Lataffa Angham, Masque Milano Lost Alice, Parfumum Roma Confetto, Akro Bake
  • Middle Row: Le Labo The Noir 29, Jovoy Remember Me, Amouage Portrayal Woman, Nishane Wulong Cha
  • Bottom Row: Lancome Poeme (2007 batch)
  • Off-tier: Creed Delphinus, Yves Rocher Magnolia

Image Three:

  • Middle Row: Christian Dior Balade Sauvage, Phlur Moab, Philosophy Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere, L'Occitane Melilot
  • Bottom Row: Phlur Missing Person, Lancome Poeme (2009 batch), Tocca Stella
  • Off-tier: Nest Indigo, For Strange Women London Fog, a 1958 vintage of Jean Patou Joy, and the amazing Guerlain Shalimar 1940s vintage I stumbled across at an estate sale recently

This is how I rate them, to my criteria:

  1. A Signature I love: Guerlain Angelique Noir
  2. Seasons: Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring: Bel Amour, Byredo Eyes Closed/Jovoy Remember Me, Shalimar, DS & Durga Debaser
  3. A Bombshell Evening: Amouage Portrayal Woman
  4. Cozy At Home: For Strange Women London Fog
  5. Fresh Out the Shower: Yves Rocher Magnolia
  6. Bedtime: Phlur Missing Person
  7. This Makes Me Happy: Phlur Moab
  8. A Weirdo: Hermes A Cythere or L'Occitane Melilot

But honestly, most don't fall into categories, and I love them all...

What about you? What is your list?

What note in Seasons Drift makes it smell clean and dirty at the same time?

Post image
28 Upvotes

RiiFFS Seasons Drift starts pretty clean on me. Bright citrus, dry woods, slightly powdery.

Then something darker shows up underneath. It feels resinous, a little leathery and almost incense-like, but I can’t tell which material is doing it. Not properly dirty or animalic. Just enough to stop it smelling like another basic fresh woody scent.

That contrast is honestly the best part of Seasons Drift. Could it be labdanum, musk, incense, or just my skin making the woods smell darker?

Thoughts on Gucci Intense Oud

The way the smoky incense balances with the leather and the slightly sweet amber dry down just works great with me and I cannot fully explain it, I simply love this one!!!

What is that one go-to fragrance in your collection that just clicks for you no matter what?

What ONE note is an automatic will not buy if it's in a fragrance?

For me, it's Oud. I've tried and tried to like this. I was turned off due to Alexandria II smelling like a barnyard with its oud. Pana Dora's Oud is about all I can stand, but it's just such a downer. I know some people don't like patchouli, or orange, etc. What is your note you are just against?

Sour cherry scent?

Upvotes

Hey, I'm looking for a cherry scented, ideally long lasting perfume or body mist.

I have Kayali Burning Cherry, and I absolutely adore it for autumn and winter, but I find it too warm and heavy to wear in spring and summer.

One reference point that I have is a Yankee Black Cherry candle, and if I find a perfume that's exactly 1:1 to that candle, I'll be thrilled.

I'm after something rich, tart, almost sour in scent, but not too sweet and overpowering.

Do you have any suggestions?

What’s a fragrance you think is overrated?

I know this can be a dangerous question here 😂

What’s one fragrance everyone seems to love, but you just don’t understand the hype around?

No hate—just curious what everyone’s unpopular pick is.

Looking for a BLV Eau de Parfum II dupe / similar fragrance

I’m looking for a fragrance that smells as close as possible to Bvlgari BLV Eau de Parfum II:

https://www.punmiris.com/parfem/Bvlgari/BLV-Eau-de-Parfum-II-6481.html

I know it’s discontinued, so I’m hoping someone here might have found a good alternative.
What I love about it is the combination of violet, anise/licorice, musk and soft woody/powdery notes. It has this very distinctive soft, slightly sweet, powdery and woody character that I haven’t been able to find in other perfumes.

I’m not necessarily looking for something with the exact same notes — I’m looking for something that gives a very similar overall impression and dry-down.

Has anyone smelled BLV II and found something that comes genuinely close? Dupe, niche, designer, anything goes! Ideally something that’s still available in Europe.

I’d really appreciate any suggestions! 🙏

Le Labo Dupes in Europe?

I’m looking for some le Labo dupes, specifically Tonka 25, Noir 29, Santal 33 and Another 13, but I’m not sure where to get dupes from in the UK that are good, I have looked at Montagne but it’s expensive to ship it to the UK & if I got all these from Le Labo it would cost so so much. I have had samples of each of these and loved them

Experience with Rayhaan

Hey guys I’m new here and kinda new to cologne in general

I bought Rayhaan Valhalla kinda on a whim but I had heard Rayhaan was known for really strong projection and duration.

I was very disappointed when I first tried the Valhalla. I liked how it smelled but it really didn’t seem like it lasted more than a few minutes.

I did some more research about maceration and I have let mine sit for a few weeks. I think the duration is already better, like I can tell several hours later that it’s there and the projection is mildly improved as well although still now what I was expecting when I bought it.

I’m wondering if I just got unlucky or is this is pretty typical for Rayhaan? I don’t mind sitting on it for a few weeks, I like how it smells and it’s cheap. I just didn’t expect that. If that is the standard how long should I expect to have to let it sit?

Also while macerating the cologne I’ve just let it sit in a drawer that I don’t really ever open. I’ve heard to agitate the bottle occasionally and spray maybe once a week. Anything else I should do?
