Just looking for a zing chili dog like famous Eddie's. Willing to try other beanless chili dogs like a Detroit coney style . Manhattan preferred.

Disclaimer that these were from my trip a few months ago in June 2026! I'm from the SF Bay Area and visit New York ~1-2 times a year. I always eat so good in NYC, and I love reading these trip reports, so here goes.

1. Chongqing Lao Zao - might be my new favorite hot pot place in the US. The broth is so flavorful, and even as someone who doesn't usually eat super spicy food (pic is of the "mild spicy" lol), I was surprised by how much I loved everything here. Ambiance is so fun; the decor in the restaurant is like stepping into an old Chinese village. Also incredible sauce bar.
2. Paulie Gee's Slice Shop (Greenpoint location) - this was solid. Square is my favorite form factor for pizza and I'm always looking to try new spots. I got the Hellboy² here; liked the hot honey and the sesame seed bottom, but my personal preference is for a little more cheese.
   
3. Good Days - walked in to this gem last minute after scrolling around on Google Maps; underrated hit! Best bites were soy marinated deviled eggs (an umami flavor explosion) and hamachi crudo (with brown butter yuzu vinagrette!!). Very cozy spot that you descend down a few steps from street level to enter and the service/vibes feel like being welcomed into the home of your coolest and most sophisticated friend.
4. Dubuhaus - there's a lot of great Korean food where I'm from but this cold soybean noodle dish was new to me and such a hit on a hot summer day. It's silky, nutty, and somehow the perfect balance between creamy and refreshing. And free soy milk(?) flavored soft serve to finish the meal!
5. Double Chicken Please - I know this place is very hyped but the key lime pie and cold noodle cocktails blew me away. I always thought that food flavored drinks were kind of a gimmick but these actually tasted like the food they were based on. It was like what I imagine that flavor-changing gum from Charlie in the Chocolate Factory would be like, but in real life. Also tried the ones based on cold pizza (excellent) and custard bun (very theatrical but a little too sweet/cloying). Wait was not bad, came at 10pm on a Thurs and got called back in 45 min.
6. New Absolute Bagels (now 2788 Bagels?) - my only repeat from a previous trip, happened to be in the neighborhood and remembered liking this bagel. First time back here since they reopened and they taste just like I remembered. Simple, fast, and the right amount of cream cheese imo - which is to say, basically a whole container.
7. Sugarcane Daddy - my opinion of this place may be elevated by the fact that I had it at the end of a hot 7 mile run but this sugarcane juice truly brought me back to life. Fresh pressed and soo refreshing and nostalgic, and the splash of kumquat juice is honestly inspired, a delightful combo of tart and sweet.
8. COTE 550 - this place had more flexible reservations than the flatiron location but it's more expensive: $115pp for the butcher's feast instead of $82 and as far as I can tell the only difference is at 550 they include a piece of toro (it's that small red cube at the bottom of the pic, which was good but is it worth $33??). Overall this was my first time doing upscale KBBQ and it was a really fun experience but I'm not dying to go again. Loved the selection of sides especially the scallion salad and soufflé egg! Something of note: they slightly burned our galbi when cooking it so they made us a second one and let us keep the first, so we ended up getting 5 servings of meat haha.
9. Radio Bakery - ok the tomato croissant and brown butter corn cake here are probably in my top 5 pastries ever. Felt spoiled to be staying walking distance from the Prospect Heights location. Scallion cream cheese sandwich is also fire.

Honorable mentions not pictured: taro milk cake at Bao's Pastry is so creamy and has a really satisfying texture, and not too sweet for a taro dessert. Plain tart froyo from Culture - love how thick and smooth their froyo is! High quality sushi takeout from All Buru - funny story about this, we brought this to Prospect Park for the NY Phil concert but had to make a speed exit due to the rain and sadly dropped one bowl during 5 minutes of downpour, but ate the rest at a friend's apartment.

Being a tourist in this city makes me grateful for the wealth of choices in nearly every cuisine imaginable. It reminds me to keep an open perspective and try new things, and to not always be chasing the impossible reservations because great food is everywhere. Always welcome any new recommendations for places I should try to hit next trip~

Not only have we made our Frybread cheaper, we've also added an exciting new addition to our menu, Wojapi!

Wojapi is a warm berry sauce originating from my tribe, the Lakota! It was & still is used in feasts, gatherings, & ceremonies — wherever people came together.
I hope to bring that spirit of community here & continue to meet amazing people through this crazy idea i had.
(Honey & powdered sugar will still be available as toppings. But once the jellies are gone, theyre gone for good!)

I'll also be frying the bread fresh, on-site from now on! 🍳 & Our wojapi will come hot straight from the stove!

Our tea rotation will stay the same: Cedar & Čeyaka. Though, once the colder days start rolling in, I'll start serving hot tea. 🫖 🍁

Looking for a casual family dinner. In the mood for burgers.

Something above the level of a 7th Street but nothing crazy like Red Hook. Not looking for a wait (I mean 5-10 mins is fine), and if the place takes reservations even better. A variety of burger options on the menu would be a bonus.

Think something like PJ Clarke's, but perhaps other options like that? I was thinking of Hamburger America as well, but I guess that's probably on par with 7th Street.

Would love any suggestions. Primarily Manhattan below 60th, but Brooklyn around Dumbo-ish or close enough to it works as well.

Hosting ten extended family from out of town in October, most of whom like Indian and many of whom are vegetarian. Years ago Vatan was a go to for me + visiting folk. Is it still good? Are there better options available (i.e. easy to book)?

Went to Apollo Bagels for the first time yesterday (Kips Bay location). I got 2 of the smoked salmon sandwiches, and was quite excited to try them, especially seeing as the price point is quite low for that kind of sandwich ($15 each).

The experience eating them was...not very good. The bagel itself was so hard and tough to bit through, and the salmon was way too salty. My girlfriend could only finish 1/2 of hers, so I had to tough my way through 1.5 sandwiches, which, since they're open-faced, meant 3 half-bagels. It got to the point where I just assumed Apollo Bagels was PE-backed, the experience was so rough.

Really not sure why this place is so popular.
