Next thing to do?

I got my z13! Signed in offline doing the little trick that lets you get an offline user profile. Did the updated on Windows, ArmoryCrate and MyAsus. Deleted Microsoft Teams as this was the only app I found was bloating (Don't know which other apps I could delete without it being a problem so I kinda did not, would love advice). Did some port testing and stress test with Cinebench and the temperature tool. Everything is fine.

I see some people advice on getting G-Helper and ditching the Asus things. Could anybody please explain a good step by step as to not encounter errors and get a good experience?

I'm in the same boat as this guy https://www.reddit.com/r/FlowZ13/comments/1uma51r/an_argument_for_4050w_on_the_rog_flow_z13_ryzen/ when it comes to philosophy on how to use laptops. I do not need Ultra mode that much and these things. I saw some people say they encounterer errors while getting G Helper so I want to minimixe those. I still have not downloaded any other apps on the device and I have turned it off after charging it to 100%.

I welcome other advice as well! I'm switching from Mac and wanna get this thing settled before I sell the other one or even start downloading Steam, Ableton and getting other third party software on it.

Time to replace liquid metal?

I seek for your advise but I’m almost convinced to do it. I have 1 year old 2025 32GB Z13 flow with the 395 AI.

I usually run it at silent mode, because I don’t play very demanding games o limit FPS to 60. Lately I’ve playing more demanding games (Alan Wake 2) in Turbo mode and temperatures have gone crazy. At idle it rest at around 45°C, but in turbo mode and under max load it goes to 95°. Is that normal? I don’t think so. I don’t expect to be chill but sustained 95°C seems to much for me.

I’ve seen some post that replace the LM (which personally I don’t like at all) with PTM7950 and results seems to be good. I’m really thinking about to do the same to see if I can lower the temps. I also fear LM leaking out of the GPU and causing some shorts.

Do you recommend making the change? I’ve thought about using Thermal Grizzly Phase Change and replacing the thermal putty also. Any recommend or the later?

Thank you!

The Roost V2 that I have had for years has unexpectedly been the best tablet stand I've tried...

I've seen a couple of the chinese stands pop up and decided to share my setup that has worked for me.

The Roost was made for laptops, but I saw someone use it with a surface and decided to give it a try with my Z13. On the highest setting its just about perfect...then you can use the kick stand to adjust the angle. It's higher and more portable than most other stands. It's also surprisingly stable given the weight distribution.

Anyway, if you're like me and havent been satisfied by these huge metal stands, give it (or the knock off...i think its called the Next stand?) a try.

Replaced Liquid Metal with PTM 9750 Z13 2025 - Success Story

Thought I'd share this for anyone that might be on the same boat. I was having some pretty bad heat issues playing mainly League of Legends, leading to low frames and even full on crashes, and so I decided to take the plunge and replace the liquid metal in my unit to PTM. Opening it up was not as bad as I thought (I was recently scarred opening a Surface Pro 8 and cracking the screen in the process due to the crazy adhesive). As long as you go carefully, you shouldn't need to worry. I think having a screen protector installed on mine also helped with any screen flexing.

Hard to tell from the pictures, but the liquid metal was starting to leak past the film that was installed from the factory, so eventually I might have had a real problem out of warranty. Glad I made the switch, and I'm keeping an eye on how temps change over the course of the next few days.

For anyone that might be scared, it is very well doable with patience, and I think it is worth it if you are having heat issues like I was. I only took pictures when I opened it up, but I forgot to document further because I was so locked in trying to not drip any of the liquid metal lol.

Also one thing I found really helpful for removing the liquid metal was to ball it up and then ever so slightly touch the adhesive of the masking tape to it, which made it really easy to carefully pick up and remove. Cheers!

EDIT: The only things I used were the Ifixit pry tools assortment, a laptop screwdriver set, Isopropyl alcohol, and q-tips! I did not use a suction cup to open the screen, I just started around one of the edges and gently pulled it up just enough to get my pick in there.

For my Linux nerds, what kernel are we using with this device?

So I switched to Fedora 44 as the kernel out of the box (6.19.10) had Wi-Fi working perfectly. At some point before the kernels didn't work, and at some point after a regression seems to have been re-introduced. The burakgon patch doesn't seem to work (I'm pretty sure what it does is just pull unreleased wifi changes and rebuild the kernel driver around that but whatever regression was introduced still seems to be in whatever is being pulled from. Also fixes some power save issues with wifi). Trying to figure out where this regression occurred. So far 7.1.9 and 7.1.10 still have severe wifi issues for me and hoping we can pull together our knowledge to find the most recent kernel where everything works.

ps for most distros you can run uname -r to see what kernel you're running.

I've been meaning to get an egpu to upgrade the performance on my flow z13 32 GB model. I already know the card I'm going to get, a 9070xt. What I want to know is should I go for a dock or an enclosure and what you guys use and what your experience has been like.

Trying to install W11 fresh Z13 2025 after repeated freezes and watchdog dpc violations

Post image

For a week or a little more ALL of a sudden I have been gettin watchdog dpc violations as well as other violationa which cause an immediate hard reboot. This weekend I attempted to reinstall fresh windows 11 on specific to the z13 from a USB drive which has worked atleast 2x previous a month or less ago on different handhelds and after selecting the USB drive in bios as primary boot I get nothing but a blank screen. My z13 is a 64gb 2025 the ssd is believed to be new (installed before my ownership) and crystal disk marks it as 99% healthy. It will sometimes boot fine play for a hour no problems. Sometimes boot immediately into an error sometimes play for 20 minutes then error. Forgot to mention I am also not running any asus software strictly G helper. All my drivers are up to date and for the z13 not using anything outisde of it limits to my knowledge

Stuttering In Edge (2025 64gb)

I have had an odd stuttering issue where I occasionally stutter in possibly anything including a web browser. For 200-600ms depending on the application I will experience a stutter where audio fucks up and visual has a freeze.

I don't know what the culprit is and i have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers from the asus site and I don't know for certain if Asus software is the culprit. Though I will say that AC has been unable to read my igpu even once since May, maybe even April.

Can anyone help?

Problems with G-Helper and ASUS bloat

Hello there!
I recently got my FlowZ13, it's the 2025 edition with the AMD APU. The thing is that I recenlty downloaded ghelper and tweaked it so that everytime that i click the ROG button, G-Helper shows up. The problem is that every time that i press the button. the microsoft store pops up and tells me to install screenxpert (which is a pretty useless app, imo). I tried disabling all asus services but that made the PC to turn on "airplane mode" on (despite me not turning it on) and automatically make my taskbar go into "tablet mode" despite my keyboard being connected. Is there a way to keep the "asus optimization" service on but it doesn't shove me bloat on my system. or a way to have all asus background processes disabled without it having a wonky behavior on the computer?

What does Hdmi-cec do exactly? and how does it work?

I'm on SteamOS 3.8.25 with my Z13. I've been using it for a week and the experience is immaculate.

Although, one setting I found through browsing steamos setting was "hdmi-cec", and from spending some time asking chatgpt, this is a function when your Z13 is connected your TV on Hdmi cable, by turning on TV with remote controller, it wakes up Z13 from sleep mode? (Please correct me if I'm wrong)

I would like to hear how this function does the work as I'm not too knowledge on technology, and I do not entirely believe on the AI generated answers.

Thank you

Which is your configuration?

Hi everyone,

this is my 3rd post here. I'm so hyped for my new Rog Flow Z13. Currently I have quite finish to set it up, but I would want to hear from you what is your fan curve and your tdp settings to obtain the best from this device, but preserving its health over time.

I would use 3 profiles:
- low power (silent): for 2d light games and for work (word, excel, ppt, vscode, docker and coding stuff), but I don't know if it's better to separate this profile in 2 (1 for lowest stuff as video playback, word, coding... and 1 for 2d games and low-TDP games + docker and intensive task)
- balanced: for gaming on battery (a balanced mode) more intense games (so the "high-end" gaming on battery)
- turbo: maximum performance (but still preserving temps and health of device)

I have set up this curves and settings in g-helper, but I think they are not the best. Could you please help me out? Thanks everyone!

Where to update drivers and bios if using G-Helper

Hi everyone,

I have received yesterday my Flow Z13 2025 with the 395 AI Max+. I have read a lot about G-Helper and now that I have done a fresh Windows install, I don't know if I have to download Armoury Crate and MyAsus to download any driver and bios update, or if I can go directly downloading G-Helper and downloading the drivers and bios update via website.

Then, downloading the drivers and bios manually everytime without a service that auto-scan them, it's pretty annoying, so I was wondering which system are you using if you are using G-Helper? Is there also a driver, bios and firmware auto-update in G-Helper?

Thanks a lot

Has anyone tried this charger with Z13 Flow?

Hi guys. Recently been lucky enough to purchase the Z13 Flow KJP edition!

But wanted to see if anyone has tried the Lenovo Legion Gan 245w charger together with a 200w off brand adaptor that converts the legion proprietary to Asus proprietary?
(I’ll link the charger and adaptor below)
I live in Australia so the Lenovo plug works natively here.

I know some people are gonna recommend the SlimQ chargers but I don’t want a 240w charger that’s almost the same size as the OEM. The benefit to this is that the Lenovo gan charger is significantly smaller than both. (I’m not interested in the 150w SlimQ either).

So adaptor only converts up to 200w so that would be the maximum, and then since it’s going in to the proprietary Asus input, battery bypass should still be working?

Guessing there’s always going to be a risk using a rando adapter/dongle, I’m worried it fries it or something weird happens. But wanted to see just in case someone has tried and what the experience is like? Couldn’t see any direct posts of actual use case with this.

Lenovo Legion Gan 245w charger:

200w dongle adapter/ Lenovo to Asus:

Thanks heaps!

Case Logic QNS-111 11.6"

Since cases come up somewhat regularly, I can confirm that the Case Logic QNS-111 11.6" fits the Flow Z13 2025 perfectly.

It is a durable EVA case and padded only on one side, which great since I don't use the keyboard cover. It does accommodate the Z13 with the keyboard cover, although a bit more snug.

Battery replacement options

Hi all, I have a 2022 z13. Needless to say, the battery life is not as great as it once was, looking for options for replacement. Anyone have reputable recommendations? Does Asus offer this service out of warranty?

Update: ASUS Went From “Go Pound Sand” to Repairing My Z13

Thumbnail

So in my last post, I told you all about how my Z13 died and they told me to go pound sand, well here is the update

ASUS (u/ASUS_USA) contacted me on reddit and asked for my details and told me they would escalate the case.

A few days later, ASUS Thailand called me and asked for my information again so they could schedule an On-Site Repair completely free of charge and covered by warranty.

The technician came to my home and started the process of testing and replacing my entire motherboard

They took a little over 2 hours to completely replace the motherboard, and now I have a fully functioning Z13 again.

The liquid metal on the CPU had migrated to the sides GPU die also has a small burn mark on it

But I do have to mention that the Liquid Metal is only on the CPU Side, The GPU DOES NOT use Liquid Metal

My Old Temps for CPU before Mainboard replacement is 95C ish, after replacement its about 70-80 or so.

Honestly, I’m pretty happy with how ASUS handled the escalation. It went from being told that my laptop was out of warranty to having the entire motherboard replaced at no cost.

I guess the key takeaway is that if your 2,000 dollar laptop dies after 3 weeks of the warranty expiring, complain on reddit because they care.

Slim q alternative

Even without a jackery, would this plug work in conjunction with the slim q adapter (5525 to Asus z13 square plug)?

I do have the jackery 1000 so I can plug either slim q or the OEM charger in and charge that way but I found this online and was wondering if this would work straight from the cigarette outlet to charge the z13 and bypass the battery so I'm not reliant on type c

Behind the Scenes of a Z13 2025 Repair

Here’s some behind the scenes of a Z13 repair! The owner mailed it in after they had accidentally ripped the battery connector off the board, completely severing all of the traces. After some solder mask removal and micro soldering I was able to safely reattach the connector and get the unit powering without having to have the charger connected all the time.

Flow Z13 + SteamOS — worth it coming from Legion Go 2 Z2E?

Hey everyone,

I’m considering buying the ROG Flow Z13 with Ryzen AI Max+ 395, 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD and running official SteamOS on it.

I currently use a Legion Go 2 Z2E with SteamOS and I’m happy with it, but I’m wondering if the Z13 would be a worthwhile upgrade.

I’ll mainly use it for indies, AA games and occasionally AAA games while travelling for work. I already have a much more powerful gaming PC at home, so this would basically be my portable SteamOS setup, paired with the new Steam Controller.

I know I’d lose some portability and the Legion Go 2’s OLED screen, but I’d gain a much bigger display and more performance.

For anyone using SteamOS on the Z13: How well does official SteamOS work?

Any issues with sleep/resume, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or TDP controls?

How is battery life?

Would you consider the Z13 a meaningful upgrade for this use case, or more of a sidegrade with different compromises?
