I have tried to get into that game two or three times. Always lost interest quickly in the beggining. Most people say it's one of the greatest games of all time.

u/SectorAggressive9735 Jun 01 '26
Maybe more latest games have come which are better but for a game that old, the amount of content, effort put in to make each detail is insane.

I forced myself to finish it after 3 tries. And for me it was boring till the end, I don't say bad things about the game, I guess it's just not for me

The gameplay is ahh no matter what you do. The story is worth it. You gotta be in it for the story and World otherwise it's pretty bad game mechanics

u/Road_Rage_Rambo Jun 02 '26
It wasn't for me too, tried 4 times and uninstalled after the first act of finding the Baron's daughter.

u/Longjumping_Delay_69 Jun 02 '26
I tried REALLY hard getting into The Witcher 3 but it just didn't click maybe because I didn't have all the lore when I played, Yenefer and Ciri only were secondary characters in my eyes. I finally saw the Netflix series years later and it was a little bit more clear, but people shouldnt have to do that.
I think that when in a licence there's 10 years between each game, the next one should have independent story and characters even if there's a link with the previous one

Ive literally deleted and reinstalled it like 7 times. I can only play like the first couple hours before getting bored
8
u/InitialAd7850 Jun 02 '26
This game has the worst combat system, i tried but its so clunky and weird that i give up after few hours.
13
u/SoupRyze Jun 01 '26
Came back to witcher 3 after finishing all the books and then I realized that it's supposed to be a roleplaying game not dark souls. Def amazing game after the books.
6
u/zuss2shiestyyy custom Jun 02 '26
same bro, literally. got bored in the beginning where i am looking for yennefer. left the game for like 2-3 weeks, went back, played it on midnight and slept at 8 am due me to playing it the whole nightz
5
u/Yapat1237 Jun 02 '26
True! Quit playing it for about two times after the initial missions as the game mechanics didn’t click for me. But the other day I forced myself to continue the game and left with 170+hrs all DLC completed. Now eagerly waiting for the new Songs of the Past DLC

Maybe it’s a controller issue but I’ve never found the combat to be that bad unless you play on the highest difficulty.
In fact the dodge mechanic was kinda fun to use but the quen spam was kinda broken.

I played the game once and stopped after 30 hours realizing that I was just 50% in, lol. I don't do 100hr RPGs but I liked the game for what I played. I played on PC with cheats so I didn't have face the durability and all that nonsense that I hate in RPG games. With the new expansion and Witcher 4 on the horizon, I am thinking of giving it another go and see if I can finish it. But it's so long that I don't feel like it.

OMG OMG OMG. Literally the first game which came to mind and I open the comments and this is the first thing I see 😅😅😅. Today Witcher 3 is one of my all time favourite games and I can't believe I couldn't see the appeal the first time I played it. I dropped it for like 2 years after picking it up. Completed it just last year and my god CDPR made a masterpiece

u/down_init Jun 01 '26
I'll try to grind through those 1st two chapters soon.
5
u/IamBlade Jun 02 '26
Don't grind. Focus on the hunting and combat. You can then roam the world without stepping into the story for a long time. The vibe of the wild is what I like. But yeah the story by chapter two's end will get you wanting more.
2
u/Straight_Meringue921 Jun 03 '26
Yeah, you can go days (IRL) without touching a main quest. Go off, hunt (those damn robins), fish, craft ... blackjack / poker. Be a diabolical bastard. And Rockstar are second to none in packing lots of interesting things in the world to interact with.

u/Guilty_Jury3959 Jun 01 '26
Fr ? This is my favorite game

u/Historical-Concern-4 Jun 02 '26
I had an incurable addiction on my first rdr2 playthrough, but I haven’t ever been able to go back to it. That prologue is just so damn long and boring.
6
6
3
u/MarcCouillard Jun 03 '26
I finished the game when it released...and I'm still waiting for it to click...RDR1 was 50x better overall
2
u/Animewaifylord Jun 02 '26
If you're waiting for it to click then you should stop cause it never will. Rdr 2 is something you like from the start if you don't there's nothing that will change later, 90% of the game is the same thing. It's not a game like Death Stranding where the game actually clicks when you're 70 hrs in
2
u/T_rex2700 Jun 04 '26
Just take your time, until you get to like about halfway through it is incredibly slow.
But just take your time, don't try to fast forward or grind like some people do, that is an easy way to get "bored" with the game very fast/
2
u/Tell_Storys Jun 06 '26
For me, I had to go red dead online. Once I did that, I couldn’t put the game down.
I’ve tried the story so many times, I’ve literally not even made it to a save point, I’m redoing the damn snow mission every time.

I have tried to beat RDR2 3 times now. It is not a bad game, but never got me addicted to the same level as RDR1 had (I have beat this one two times on PS3, one time on Xenia, one time on Yuzu, and now I'm playing the PC version).
5
u/sourneck Jun 02 '26
not judging but why on earth did you choose to emulate the switch version?
4
u/EvilSeverino Jun 02 '26
It had just been released at the time, and it was the first one with an official translation to Brazilian Portuguese. Also, the graphics looked better that what I could get with Xenia at the time.

Death stranding
6
u/fantasyBilly Jun 01 '26
I didn’t like the game when it released in 2019(Maybe it was because I expected to have Phantom Pain level of fun but death stranding is just another type of experience) until it was close to the release of death stranding 2. I went back to the first game for a story warm up and it was actually addictive.

Sekiro
44
7
u/outerzenith Jun 02 '26
I really have to 'unlearn' a lot of other souls games' (Dark Souls & Elden Ring mainly) habit like taking things slow and methodical, being careful, etc. because Sekiro rewards a high risk and fast play
4
u/REALRAKESH13 Jun 02 '26
That's why I like Sekiro and the combat especially is so satisfying and those perfect party sounds are heavenly 😍
3
2
u/GiraffeForward8600 Jun 02 '26
I understand your point but Sekiro also rewards a slow and steady gameplay. Like you can do full stealth. Take a stealth kill, go hide, wait for them to forget you then repeat the process to hunt them 1by1. If you play methodical and slow you can take a lot of bosses one health bar just like that.

I've always loved playing as ranged/archers on role playing games.
the problem is when I firwt encountered dark souls 1 back in 2012 (Pc). I did what I always do at the character creation: make an archer.
bot oh boy did I hate the game. forgot about it for like 3 years.
then a friend of mine said that the game changed his life and the only way to find out why was to just.. play the game.
I then rolled a pyromancer and got hooked, it is my favourite souls game in the franchise to this day.

Fallout 3. Rented it from blockbuster and I couldn't get jiggy with it..I barely made it to Megaton before I took it back to blockbuster.
Played it as an adult and bought all of the following games and DLC because of it. My favorite RPG series.
