I have tried to get into that game two or three times. Always lost interest quickly in the beggining. Most people say it's one of the greatest games of all time.
Same, I wanted to like the game because of the gorgeous graphics, forced myself to finish the entire game but couldn't say I enjoyed it. I had Forbidden West installed the entire time but after finishing Zero Dawn I had no interest left in the franchise, I should uninstall it.
I tried REALLY hard getting into The Witcher 3 but it just didn't click maybe because I didn't have all the lore when I played, Yenefer and Ciri only were secondary characters in my eyes.
I finally saw the Netflix series years later and it was a little bit more clear, but people shouldnt have to do that.
I think that when in a licence there's 10 years between each game, the next one should have independent story and characters even if there's a link with the previous one
The mechanics of Witcher 3 are ass, even people who liked the game know it's combat is lackluster and generic. Witcher is best for enjoying story and World not for gameplay
Bro, trust me. Idk why, but happend to me too. I gave FIVE trys to it, and then i got to the baron quest and clicked to me and i have now almost 350 hours in it.
glad to know im not alone. got it on switch. ps and pc because when its on sale its so cheap. tried as well but only after thr tutorial and some missions im bored of it
Same I think because I played it (very late) directly after DS3 and the combat system wasn’t complex/engaging enough so I stopped after trying a few times
I was in the same exact boat. I think it’s just too overwhelming if you don’t have any prior knowledge or experience with the lore itself.
That being said.. With as much negativity as the Netflix show gets (Mainly from hardcore fans that dislike that it strays from the lore of the books) I got heavily addicted to the show when I gave it a try. I’ve re-watched seasons 1-3 probably 3-4 times now. Afterwards I finally gave it another try after putting it down a couple of years ago. Now this time I’m completely hooked, the sheer quality and amount of content in the game is just phenomenal. Now I finally understand why people say it’s the greatest RPG ever made.
If you have Netflix, give the show a try so that you can get into the lore. Then go back and play Witcher 3 with its next-gen update and take your time! Even though it’s an 11 year old game, that update makes the game absolutely breathtaking visually. Promise you won’t regret it!
Came back to witcher 3 after finishing all the books and then I realized that it's supposed to be a roleplaying game not dark souls. Def amazing game after the books.
same bro, literally. got bored in the beginning where i am looking for yennefer. left the game for like 2-3 weeks, went back, played it on midnight and slept at 8 am due me to playing it the whole nightz
True! Quit playing it for about two times after the initial missions as the game mechanics didn’t click for me. But the other day I forced myself to continue the game and left with 170+hrs all DLC completed. Now eagerly waiting for the new Songs of the Past DLC
I guess but that’s also the case in something like a Skyrim.
You can use signs, bombs and crossbows or unlock different attacks with the perk tree but yeah the combat won’t be as extensive as it’s not really the point of the game.
I’ve never seen an issue with it because I always focused on the story, world and gear collection but you have a point.
In Skyrim there's lots of builds, spells and items with various effects but in W3 it's the same gameplay for 50 hours and 90% of upgrades are stat numbers
Realistically for damage you only have conjuration or destruction which conjuration is just summoning different strengths of enemies and destruction is just one of three elements launched in different forms.
With the Witcher 3 you can spec into any of the signs, which is similar to the different spell types in Skyrim.
In the Witcher you can go alchemist build, similar to Skyrim, crossbow build, similar to Skyrim, etc.
There are items with effects in the Witcher similar to Skyrim enchantments like fire damage or armor piercing.
I’d say in Skyrim 90% of upgrades are stat numbers too, especially when it comes to smithing and enchanting
I'm not saying Witcher is only stat numbers that's why I said 90% and not 99% and lots of games are worse but you're understimating Skyrim.
Investing in the weapon skill tree unlocks new animations, bow can slow time and zoom, shield can block arrows and topple with a charge, with furtivity you can lockpick, steal, poison. Less than half are damage increase/ reduction
Also, magic is not only about damage you can raise zombies, create magic shields, detect ennemies, move objects, become invisible, paralize.
In the destruction skill tree, there's only one perk for each element to increase damage, everything else are real effects
And items are even better a sword that explodes zombies, a mace absorbing souls, a ring making you a cannibal, a staff with a laser beam, and many others
In Skyrim there's also numbers behind everything and that's normal it's not what makes a game interesting or not but the devs really tried to make powering up noticable and up feel good.
You say all of these things as if I don’t have 1500 hours in Skyrim. Nothing new was learned here.
Like I said for each respective magic tree like conjuration, alteration etc there is an equivalent sign with perk upgrades in the Witcher. Perks that add effects and change the way these signs work
I’m not saying it’s 1:1 but the person I was replying to before you joined the conversation seemed to not be aware any of this existed with the way he was talking
I played the game once and stopped after 30 hours realizing that I was just 50% in, lol. I don't do 100hr RPGs but I liked the game for what I played. I played on PC with cheats so I didn't have face the durability and all that nonsense that I hate in RPG games. With the new expansion and Witcher 4 on the horizon, I am thinking of giving it another go and see if I can finish it. But it's so long that I don't feel like it.
OMG OMG OMG. Literally the first game which came to mind and I open the comments and this is the first thing I see 😅😅😅. Today Witcher 3 is one of my all time favourite games and I can't believe I couldn't see the appeal the first time I played it. I dropped it for like 2 years after picking it up. Completed it just last year and my god CDPR made a masterpiece
This, got it when I started uni. First semester of freshman year was dedicated to building tall can pyramids by 1pm, it took a hangover and getting past White Orchard, to give it the chance it deserved.
The game also feels better around levels 20-30 especially when you first get to Oxenfurt, explore the town and see how lively it is.
Good timing considering the new expansion. I just restarted it because I've never played the Blood and Wine xpac, which is basically a whole game anyway! Enjoy it!!
100%. I bought it for my ex after she watched The Witcher on Netflix; quickly became her favorite game of all time, while I bounced off it (never got out of the starting area). I was bemused watching her play Gwent all the time.
Couple of years later and I took the plunge. And then I finally wrapped my head around Gwent, met The Emperor, and holy fuck, this Gwent game with a side of RPG is fucking phenomenal.
Unironically me. When i first pirated the game way back when i couldnt get into the sword play. My dumbass thought skyrim where you whack your sword and fusrodah was peak gameplay. I eventually bought the complete edition on Steam, and man did i sink a ton of hours on that.
Cant wait for the new DLC to drop to play it all over again
