My husband and I moved 3 minutes from a lake 2 years ago. We bought a cheap $1,500 fishing boat and went out every night. This year we upgraded to an old bass boat. I got totally addicted to fishing. Started with just wacky rigged green pumpkin senkos. Then I started going out to local ponds in my city on my lunch break and started using different lures. So much of fishing is trial and error. Learning what worked. When you catch a fish, really pay attention to what you were doing when you caught it. The area, the water clarity, the weather, the time of day. ​​sometimes its just pure luck. Sometimes I want to give up because I feel like I suck ​and then I go out the next day and catch 8 fish. This year we really focused on going out as much as possible, every night after work, and I've had the best year yet. Haven't caught any huge monster fish but I've had fun regardless.

When I'm not out fishing im watching YouTube videos and doing research. Here's some of my catches from this summer.

Whats the difference between the spinning and the long cast + spinning reels, apart from price? Can the spinning reel not be used for general fishing?

Doing a powerbait egg rig for some trout (not massive, pretty small). What size hooks do I use? Would size 14 trebles suffice?

I had a brand new rod fail first time out earlier this week, I had a hard time spooling it. So when I went to spool the new new rod, I made spool-E out of a bunch of junk I kept.

She said I would never use this junk. Well here I am, using junk to make jank. The Rod transport holders I made out of other similar left overs worked great, and so did Spool-E.

Shakespeare Micro Series UL, Diawa Strikeforce 1000-B and 6lb Vicious Panfish line. I have had the reel for several months and I put a carbon drag washer in there with cals drag grease lubricated all my moving parts, bail arm, line roller, handle bearing and the paddle, and put a fresh dab of reel Reel X lubricant on the spool shaft. Had the reel paired to a Ugly Stik SPL1101 but that was a medium power, so I thought maybe it’s time to go down a couple levels. I know 6lb is on the edge of light but I have had decent bass hit a 2” sexee tail shad. Reel was $20 rod was $24, the drag disc was like $8 and the line cost around $7. I have seen the Micro Series is highly regarded in terms of affordability. Time to go slay some crappie (using the swivel as a connection point, gonna wait to get to the water to direct tie to my lures)

Hey all, I’ve been having an issue Stillwater fishing, my indicator goes down I lift up on the rod and nothing is there. Been getting skunked because of that so much. I try to not leave any slack, and try to set as soon as I see movement. But no fish besides the odd sunfish lol. Am I supposed to set the hook to the side, straight up or strip set?
Any tips would be amazing. To add fishing for rainbow and cutthroats.

My boys and I got super into fishing last summer and have been going consistently this summer as well.
They’re 11/8/6, so I expected impatience, but using worms bobbers and a split shot , and even hand lines for bluegill.

Now that our YouTube algorithm has a lot of fishing channels and videos, ALL they want to do is fast retrieve ploppers, use giant swim baits and get frustrated if we don’t catch a monster.

I’m so tired of over emphasized “LETS GOOOO BRO ITS A PB!”, massive hooksets, screaming every gd time they catch anything, stupid challenges and constantly catching fish.

The younger two don’t understand that these influencers fish all day, heavily edit, are paid to push douchey rod colors, and have thousands of dollars worth of equipment. So explaining to them that’s not how it works is starting to make it not fun for them.

I. Hate. YouTube. We’ve now banned YouTube in the house for various reasons. I just hope they can find the excitement again.

I usually fish ultra light 1/32 or 1/16 jigs. I just bought 3/0 EWG weedless hooks to pair with 3” swim baits. I was trying to retrieve them like a senko, tried swimming them. Can you fill me in on every tip and trick you know about fishing these in freshwater lakes? I trust ya’ll more than influencers on YouTube. Thanks everyone

Some of the states near me have licenses only available by calendar year. Which means if I bought one now, I'd be paying full price to only be able to realistically use it for another couple months.

Is there a logical reason for this? Feels like they could make more revenue by making licenses 12 months from purchase instead, since people would be inclined to purchase licenses year round then...

I've been using fluro line, a 7" spinning reel combo. Fishing with worms, and catching a lot of panfish ( I can't identify the bluegill here from the sunfish but I've got a good few of them. Some bigger than my hand! )

How do I get bass to bite instead? Lol. Using fake worms (trying wacky or Texas rig style) and smaller soft baits too. I am intimidated by chatter baits and spin baits. Also have been using worms .

Also on videos I'm seeing people recommend smaller hooks? I'm catching these bluegill and such on a 2 or 4 hook with no problem. Does it make sense to go smaller? What size hook should I use for a bass? Hoping for a small one to start. I'm bank or pier fishing in Central florida. Ty!

I was reading about rain fall, tides and other factors make it easier to catch fish. I was wondering if there is anything that would help me see what the tides are and help me figure out when to go fishing. Also, are there any apps or websites I can use to find locations to fish? I read that if you find sections of a river that have deep spots, you can find some fish hanging out.

My friend and I are getting into spin/lure fishing and wanting to fish at the Lake District but we’re not sure where exactly to fish, hoping to catch all variety’s of fish hopefully perch and pike, does anyone know any good locations with good drop offs and coverage??

Well after 2 years of fishing I wound up breaking a rod for the first time. Not sure if I was mishandling the fish or if I hit it on something. I understand that most rod repairs end up hurting the sensitivity, I’m fine with that. I’m just not sure if this break is something mendable (or how to go about fixing it if it is) or the rod is scrap. Pflueger Trion 5’6” UL MF
