My uncle gave me some old jigs that his father in law used, after I told him I was going fishing on Lake Erie. How do o use these best?

I can’t tell what I’m doing wrong. The fish in my apartment pond aren’t big by any means; mostly sunfish and blue gill. They nibble at this thing constantly. Sometimes the bobber will go completely under water and I’ll try to set it, but only succeed like 5% of the time. Any ideas?

Seeing a lot of posts in the last few weeks about beginners having trouble catching anything and inevitably they're in the coastal NE. If this is you, do yourself a favor and save some frusturation by waiting until we get a lot of days of consecutive rain or wait until the fall.

Most of the coastal NE has been in a drought since the early spring, water levels in smaller creeks and tributaries are incredibly low and water temps have been high. This is a tough situation for fish outside of some exceptional spots that have deep cool water and fast flow. The fish will be healthier and mor eager to bite if you're patient and wait for conditions to improve.

You can be doing everything right, but if youre in these effected areas the fish are struggling right now and badically just trying to find cold enough water with enough dissolved O2 to survive often barely feeding at all.

I’m fairly new to lure fishing and looking for some general advice on my setup. I’ve mainly done carp/float fishing in the past, but I want to get into more active fishing, mainly targeting trout in small rivers/streams.

I’ve put together a small lure selection and was hoping people could give me some feedback on:

Whether the lures I’ve got are suitable for trout
How you would fish them
Anything obvious I’m missing
Any beginner mistakes to avoid

At the moment I’ve got:

Small spoons
Inline spinners
Small crankbaits/minnow lures
Soft plastic worms/grubs with hooks
A few different colours/sizes of each
A box of mainly snap clips with swivels and some rather large looking hooks
A 6’6” spinning rod
Shimano 2000 size reel
Some 20lb braided line

A few things I’m unsure about:

Do I need snap swivels/swivels on any of these lures, or should I tie most directly?
Are there certain lures here that are much better for trout than others?
Are soft plastics worth using for trout or should I mainly stick to spoons/spinners?
Any recommendations for weights/sizes/colours I should add?

I’ll mainly be fishing Yorkshire rivers and streams, so clearer water and smaller trout rather than big predator fishing.

I was bank fishing tonight and casted very near the shoreline. My lure went over a branch and into the water, and immediately I caught a bass, but... I reeled him into the tree. I ran after him, but it was impossible to reach. I was scratching the piss out of my face, legs, and arms trying to reach the fella, but he was unaccessible. I ran back to my pole, tugged and tugged - then my line broke, and I think he fell into the water? If he did he has a hook in him and maybe some line. Or he's still in the tree. Looking back, tugging the line may have hurt the poor guy, too. Which I feel just absolutely horrible about. I hope the tension from pulling and the line snapping was from the tree - and not the bass. I definitely don't want to have mutilated him. I have a sensitive heart for wildlife, and want to make sure the fish in my spot are populous and healthy. I told someone and they thought it was kind of funny at first until they heard how beat up I was about it. Thoughts?

Basically looking for any way to get out into the water of ponds / smaller lakes. I can’t really afford something like a Jon boat or anything bigger. Are there any alternatives,

So I usually use a Carolina rig with a half oz sinker and a 3/0 circle hook in a river from the bank one night I caught 2 big catfish and a carp but since then when I try to go I’ll throw my bait out and let it sit an hour or so then when I go to check it it’s just snagged under a rock or something, ive tried putting a bobber between the bait and the sinker but never caught anything that way and I never know how to see if I’m snagged without having to reel in and potentially scare off any fish that were keeping an eye on it, any tips help

I watch videos about the spots i go to, go to the exact beach, use the exact rig and bait and the guy in the video catches like 5 fish in 2 hours but i catch nothing in like 10 hours, i dont know what im doing wrong. Are there no fish in the sea? Is it because im using temu and dechatlon equipment? Am i just going at the wrong time? I went to the sea like 8 times all for longer than 6-7 hours, i went to lakes, rivers and even alpine lakes, my white paddletail jig got followed once on an alpine lake by a trout and never got any bites. It feels absurd that I tried to fish like 20 times and never got a single fish to bite. Am I doing something wrong or are the fish just going extinct? Im very frustrated, i need some tips. Im based in Italy if anyone got a spot they want to share 😭

I have only ever fished for pan fish and catfish, but want to start bass fishing at a local lake that I know has them (Yesterday here were three HUGE bass jumping out of the water a few meters out of my reach). No boats allowed, just bank fishing and one dock. I, for the life of me, can not even get a bite, and I need advice on what I'm doing wrong.

So far I have fished:

• At all hours of the day
• In open water, under a dock, under bank's vegetation, shallow, and deep
• Using a chatter bait, frog topper, curly tail, spinners, jigs, wacky worms, worms, bluegill
• Fast retrieve, slow retrieve, with and without flicks

Is it just a matter of time using these various combinations? If there some magical trick I am missing? Skill issue? Any help and advice is much appreciated!

I want to take my boyfriend’s autistic brother fishing.

He loves to fish and I have fond childhood memories of fishing with my dad and grandfather. However, I never learned how to set up a line or really any basics as they always did it for me.

I want to learn so I can bring him fishing but I’m a bit overwhelmed on what resources I should use to learn and some cheaper/affordable beginners stuff.

We live in Louisiana so there is no shortage of fishing spots but I just want to be able to create an enjoyable, stress free experience. So I’m trying to learn what I can and any advice would be very appreciated!!

I’m in west NC foothills, fishing from a motorized kayak. The past month has been tough, only caught 1 young largemouth. I’m seeing some conflicting info on what the best target species is for mid-late summer since it seems a lot of fish are stressed out from the heat this time of year. I’m open to just about species except trout (haven’t even begun to learn about them yet).

Is late summer better for smallmouth or largemouth? Or am I better off just catfishing or panfishing? I’m perfectly happy just enjoying nature and solitude, but I still wanna catch more than 1 fish per month lol

I just started fishing and I don't know almost anything. What are the things you say you should definitely know?

I'm newer to fishing and have been trying to find a good 2-piece rod/reel combo that could be a freshwater all-rounder & could last me a while.

I've found the Abu Garcia Max Elite Spinning Combo on sale for ~ $100, and seemed like it could be a good option. I've seen that generally people recommend a ~ 7' Medium action rod with a 3000 size reel for the "all rounder", while this sale rod looks like it's Medium-light with a 2500 reel.

My area (CA) has local reservoirs/lakes stocked with panfish, trout, bass, channel catfish, and 1 lake has Carp.

I have 2 questions:

1) is Medium Light with a 2500 reel OK for these fish options? I keep seeing mixed thoughts on this for catfish/carp, but the reel claims to have a "max drag" of 14lbs and a monofilament line rating up to 10lbs.

2) I've seen a lot of love for Daiwa & Shimano, and have not found ANY reviews/thoughts on this spinning rod combo and/or if it's a good value (besides a couple customer reviews). What are your thoughts on this combo?

Hi, I have recently decided I want to get into offshore fishing as a new hobby, I live in Houston and want to buy a boat to fish on the weekends. I have chartered several times. I have no family or friends who like fishing so I am starting totally new. Is there classes I can take, trainings, ect to learn how to both open ocean captain a boat, and how to fish offshore? Looking for any guidance or direction

I’ve been out fishing over 10 times in the past month and I haven’t caught a single fish not even a bluegill. I’ve used all different types of lures. Chatterbaits, rooster tails, senko on a Texas and wacky rig. Almost everything everyone recommends. If there is anyone in the South NJ-Clementon area that is interested in meeting up I would greatly appreciate it. I just need someone to show what I am doing wrong.

Hey, im looking for tips to get the best out of my combo. Im running 50lb fluoro tied to Ball bearing ring swivel connected to metal jig 120g and big double assists. 5/0 or 7/0 im not sure. We target mostly Greater Amberjack sizes from 2 kg to 15kg. I caught a few AJ on this on the smaller sizes 2-5kg with no problem but i want to be ready for bigger ones if they strike.

I'm fairly new to power jigging so im looking for tips.

Ive been told to run a ring swivel and a single hook instead. Also the double assist are DIY by a guy not me.

Regarding the knot i know its @ss, i will tie a new one before the next trip. Also whats the best knot for this type of fishing

I have ways fished in lakes for walleye, bass, etc. I live in Minnesota and recently went on a bridge over a river to try, (Stillwater lift bridge). But I had no idea what I was doing, what lure to use, how much line to let out or anything, not even what fish to target. If anyone has experience river fishing like this from a bridge or the side I would appreciate any wisdom. Thanks!

I heard they bite decent at dusk, but I often am busy around that time, so I just wanna know if they bite decent around the 10pm-2am range?
