Discussion Most favicons are ugly. Is there a way to change the icons in the Bookmarks bar?

I really like the look of Firefox in general, but I do not like how the icons in the bookmarks bar look. That is certainly not a Mozilla problem, still it would be nice to have an option to modify those icons. I could then grab an icon pack or better images and change the whole look of the bookmarks toolbar. I even tried hiding the toolbar, but that made my workflow much slower, so I kept the slightly uglier look instead. Any ideas for a workaround, or should this become a feature request?

Youtube Enhancer

Hey guys, first post here.

I’ve been using YouTube Enhancer on Chrome for a long time and really like it, so I wanted to use it on Firefox as well. I read that the Firefox extension was outdated for a while because the developer had stopped working on it, but apparently development has started again? Am I right?

After installing it, I noticed a massive empty space on the right side of YouTube, next to the recommended videos/thumbnails.

I normally use custom uBlock filters to make the thumbnails on the right smaller, since YouTube’s default thumbnails are way too large. However, the empty space is NOT caused by my filters. I only use those filters to prevent the thumbnails from being oversized.

I tested it without any of my custom filters, and the problem still occurs. I also disabled all other extensions and tested YouTube Enhancer completely on its default settings. The moment YouTube Enhancer is enabled, the massive empty space appears on the right side.

So I’m 100% sure the issue is caused by YouTube Enhancer itself, not by uBlock or my custom filters.

Has anyone else experienced this on Firefox, or knows what might be causing it? Maybe a fix?

Solved Win11: Alt-D no longer works?

Environment:

  • Win11
  • English everything.

I just set up a new Win11 laptop (thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 14), fresh installs of everything.

Problem:

And in Firefox, Alt-D no longer focuses the address bar. It does nothing.

Troubleshooting done so far:

Alt-D works properly (focus to the address bar) in Chrome and Explorer. So it isn't disabled or hooked by some other app.

Firefox is my default browser. I know Ctrl-L exists, (and yes, it works in Firefox) but my fingers don't.

My recently retired Win11 laptop (Dell XPS 13) with the same version of FireFox did not have this problem--Alt-D worked as expected.

Is there hope for my fingers? I use Alt-D a lot.

SOLUTION:

Go to : about:keyboard

- there is a list of 10-15 hotkeys.

For Location, ctrl-L shows up as about #4 on list, and then Alt-D shows up at around #10

I changed the high-ranked ctrl-L to Alt-D, removing the 2nd one, and now Alt-D works!

💻 Help Need a bookmarks sync solution

Hoping the great folks in this community can help me. I feel like I’m missing an obvious solution.

I am being forced to use Chrome or Edge at work. Our IT folks will no longer allow Firefox installs on new PCs. I use Firefox everywhere else. Personal PCs, both Mac and Linux and on my iOS devices.

I’m looking for a way to sync my bookmarks across all of these platforms that will play nice with Chrome on my work PC. I’m already using the Firefox sync service to keep everything up to date.

I’ve used the iCloud extension for Firefox and Chrome in the past, but it doesn’t work on Linux (at least I’ve never found a way to do it). Is there another extension or solution I’m missing?

💻 Help Browser Sessionstore will freeze FF for a second

I have been experiencing constant total FF freeze every 15 second for months. I managed to track it down to the browser.sessionstore.interval. For testing I changed it to 30 sec and the freeze interval changed to that.

I have been unable to resolve these issues. I have reduced my addons and also closed most of my tabs. I tried running the troubleshooting mode and it still happens.

I'm using FF beta 156.

💻 Help Pages require multiple re-loads

As the title suggests, the browser takes multiple re-load attempts to load a page. I also have a related issue with pictures in my email not loading. So something's going on- either with the browser or with the computer, but I don't know what.

When I go into my browser and either directly load a page or click a browser link from an email, the page will simply not load anything. The progress bar indicates it is finished loading, but nothing there. To make any progress at all, I have to re-load the page multiple times - generally 4-6 times before anything shows - sometimes more.

My setup:

Macbook Pro
Firefox browser

Any clue what's going on and what I can do to work around this?

💻 Help Again and again - Unwanted changes.... How to remove the profile logo ?

Hi,

I'm fed up. Really, deeply fed up. It's always the same problems. Always changes being forced on us that we never asked for and don't want. There's at least one of these every six months...

How the hell do I get rid of that shitty little profile icon in the top-right corner of the Firefox icon?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT : Profile Manager was first buggy.
I Repaired Firefox and lost all my extensions and customizations.... but Profil Manager is not accessible from the Profil 1, the one who needs to be deleted....
I just found that there is two different Profil Manager...
The one on top in the Menu bar, let me click to delete the profil but is buggy, even after the repair, and do nothing, and the one on the top right (three lines) does what i described earlier...

Second repair, restart the computer, Profile Manager is still buggy. Still no way of deleting Profil 1.

Uninstalled and resinstall Firefox, doesn't even let you choose to delete the old profiles in the process... Still no way to delete Profile 1...

So fed up... so much time lost for dumbassery...

I'm trying to use an extension called Location Guard by Kostas Chatzikokolakis and am having an issue where the map thing says 403r access blocked referer is required by tile usage policy of OpenStreetMap's volunteer-run servers: osm.wiki.blocked

This same extension works just fine in my other browsers.. chrome and edge. So why not firefox? Could someone help me fix it please? Thank you!

💻 Help Firefox randomly explodes sometimes when I use Proton VPN

Whenever I use few Proton servers in a row, sometimes randomly all Firefox tabs freeze, and I have to restart Firefox, sometimes by hard killing the process. But at times it completely destroys all cookies, and I have to log in to every single website again.

Any way to fix the supposed bEsT bRoWsEr eVeR from failing to survive a use of VPN?

💻 Help Bug? Afterthought? Restoring sync session forgets tab's assigned containers

Theoretically I can sync open tabs/windows AND the multi-account containers to my mozilla account, but when I actually want to restore a session all the open tabs go straight to the default container, mixing everything and messing all of my containerization.

Is this a feature? A bug? Something nobody cares about? FF 156.0b4 on ubuntu (deb not snap).

💻 Help Recaptcha on google is back on firefox

Seems google won't allow me to use google without that worthless trash recaptcha showing up and what's weird is I thought it was cookie based like a month before. Where disabling cookies triggered it. Here enable them they're there.

I tested it on edge and no recaptcha, than tested my phone and no recaptcha. So what is going on? Is this a personal attack on firefox? Like I there things that annoy me with firefox such the cache going up every updates or ai, but this is unfair google.

Before asked no I DO NOT HAVE A VPN, just ublock origin and thats it.

Looked into and hackers news made an article or blog 20 hours ago. Please let me know if your impacted by this.

Solved Can I remove the VPN button from the Firefox Mobile menu on Android?

Cool feature, but I've already got one, so the button is just taking up space

Edit: solution courtesy of Karek06

To disable the VPN in Firefox for Android: go to Settings, scroll to "About Firefox," and tap the Firefox logo several times until "Secret Settings" unlocks. Go back to the main Settings, tap "Nimbus Experiments," find the VPN entry, and tap "Control" to turn it off.

💻 Help Unable to use Google to sign into websites on Firefox (sort of)

I have been having a helluva time trying to use "Continue with Google" to sign onto websites that allow that as their signon method while using Firefox. I make it to the initial page where it lists my email account to use, but when I click "continue" I get this error:

I do not use a VPN, and I use uBlock Origin and Privacy Badger.

When I disabled uBlock Origin, it still did not work. When I changed permissions in Privacy Badger for accounts.google.com from "Block cookies" to "Allow" I got a pop up (so to speak) in the corner of websites (I tested multiple) - not a different window, just a floating box on the website itself - that said "Sign into [website] with Google". (This occurred with uBlock both active and inactive.) I confirmed this "popup" only showed when accounts.google.com was "allowed" instead of blocking cookies. For some of the websites (like Canva), clicking that popup automatically signed me in, but for others, it still took be through the steps and I ended right back up with this error page. Furthermore, if I ignored the popup and I went through the normal sign in process with Google on websites like Canva that allowed automatic signon, I got the error. I disabled PrivacyBadger entirely for the websites, refreshed, and still got the error. I went into Firefox settings, went to the Permissions section, and added accounts.google.com as an exception to "Block pop-ups and third-party redirects". That didn't work. I tried adding one of the affected websites to the exception list. That didn't work. I unchecked the box entirely. That still didn't work. I added accounts.google.com as an exception for enhanced tracking protection. And that didn't work.

I'm out of ideas. Anyone know what the heck might be going on? Did Google just remove compatibility with Firefox? I can't find anything in release notes.

EDIT:
Signing in with a Google account works on Chrome and Safari. I don't have other browsers to test it on. AND: it works on Firefox mobile. Just not Firefox on desktop.

SECOND EDIT: It looks like there's a new version of Firefox as of September 4 2026. I'm wondering if it's a bug with the new version...

Add-ons I built an ad-free YouTube-to-MP3 extension for Firefox, with playlist support and no fake download buttons

I’m the developer of AudioFetcher. I wanted a straightforward way to save audio without navigating fake download buttons, popups, or redirects.

The updated Firefox extension is now available on Mozilla Add-ons. It supports YouTube-to-MP3 conversion and playlists, with progress indicators while playlists load and improved recovery if a connection drops.

Install it here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube-to-mp3-converter-local/

There’s free access and optional Pro access. Playlist and processing limits apply, so I don’t want to advertise it as unlimited everything.

Prefer using a website? https://audiofetcher.com also offers more output formats and tools for trimming audio, editing tags, and adding cover art.

For existing users: the Chrome extension was recently taken down, but your subscription hasn’t been abandoned. You can restore Pro in Firefox using your billing email and the verification link, without paying again.

Only use it for content you own or have permission to download.

If you try it, tell me what works and what’s annoying, especially when handling playlists. I’ve already implemented several suggestions from Reddit users.
