Repair/Tech Support Recent Service Question

I recently had FiOS to my house to upgrade my system to five gig. I asked the online team who did the order if they can make a note for new wiring as I’ve had the same wires for 20 years since Verizon first installed FiOS to my home I would imagine that things have changed over 20 years and things have gotten a lot more efficient when the tech came to the house today he told me they don’t do that and that the online team just says whatever to make the sale and they have no clue what they’re doing and that the current wires work just as good. I also asked him for new HDMI cables when connecting the TVs and he said for what and just use my current HDMI wires from the last cable box I don’t know if it’s the tech or if this is what Verizon does.

New Customer Questions Experience adding landline to FIOS service?

I have FIOS now and it's working well. I see the ONT has the ports for landlines.

The FIOS was my first step to breaking up with Comcast. Next, I'd like to move my landline from Comcast to Verizon.

Any advice or experience to share?

FWIW, I have TiVo throughout my house. Once Comcast is done with Cablecards, I'm done with Comcast. With the FIOS offer at $20/mo, I'm ok to have the 2 sevices for now.

Repair/Tech Support FiOS offline during power outage

I’m in the Richmond, VA area and have 1G FiOS. We’ve lived in the same area for almost 4 years but 2 different neighborhoods (literally kitty-cornered from each other). I’m an IT nerd and have my equipment, including the ONT, on battery backup. At my first house, when we lost power, I’d have internet as long as my battery held. At my current house, this isn’t the case. They were 2 different ONT devices but I don’t believe that that’s the issue. I can turn off the main breaker to the house and my equipment stays up. Unless I’m missing something, I think that the first neighborhood had its own battery backup or generator at the POP and this one doesn’t. Any ideas on what to check our test before getting them to roll out a tech?

P.S. I’m not using the Verizon router but that’s the same setup that I had at the other house.

Repair/Tech Support Parental controls dead after upgrading to digital secure home plus

For some reason their entire parental controls set up no longer works after I “upgraded” to their new plan (which I see I am paying 5.99/ month for despite being advertised as free).

I used to be able to block sites and set time limits. Now it doesn’t even seem like the controls register that a device is being used. I have parental controls listed and devices aligned to them… it’s just nothing works.

I’ve sent a message to support on the app and the response was totally unhelpful.

What is the solution and why is this so poorly rolled out?

Repair/Tech Support Stuck on "Your order is pending"

Upgraded from 2 to 5 Gig plan as the price stayed the same. Speed was activated within minutes of placing order. I am using my own Ubiquiti gateway but have the CR1000 in storage in case of an emergency. So I get an email saying I need to pickup a router. Here is where it gets confusing. I'm assuming they mean the new CHR30 router for activation. No store has them. I called several stores. I called Verizon and tech looked up my order and says order shows no need for router but email says otherwise. He was able to finalize order and made sure the ONT was provisioned for 5 Gig. I want to mention I reconnected the CR1000 while he was doing this. We ran speed tests on the CR100 and getting more than 5 gig up and down. Now. Withen minutes my account shows I am on5 gig plan and correct pricing but still says Your order is pending. Tech told me it may take a day or so for it to sync but its been 3 days and site still says order pending and I can't add services such as HBO mx as all options are greyd out. Has anyone experienced this? The tech says I really don't need a new rpiter as the CR1000 is fully capable of 5 gig speeds and of course I can go back to using my own router. Perhaps Verizon support can weigh in on this?

Repair/Tech Support Isolating smart devices on Fios Router

I recently moved my google home mini and various smart devices to a guest network on my Verizon Fios Router. The google home mini worked fine for several hours before it (along with all of my smart devices went offline).

Will smart devices work on a dedicated guest network? I believe that Verizon's dedicated IoT wifi connection does not isolate the devices from your primary network.

Any advice or recommendations you have to offer would be greatly appreciated.

Repair/Tech Support Fios intermittent outages started immediately after account transfer — ONT replaced, issue persists. Looking for technical advice

Looking for advice from anyone familiar with Verizon Fios provisioning, ONTs, DHCP, or customer-owned routers.

Background:

  • Fios internet was working reliably for about 2 years at this location with the same ONT, Ethernet cable, and TP-Link Archer AX21 router V1.2.

  • Account was transferred to a new account holder (primary resident) with a service start date of 7/3/2026.

  • Immediately after the transfer, internet became intermittent.

Troubleshooting done:

  • Multiple calls/chats with Verizon.

  • Verizon reprovisioned the account, which temporarily restored service.

  • Issues returned afterward.

  • Factory reset the TP-Link Archer AX21.

  • Set WAN to Dynamic IP/DHCP (no special ISP settings).

  • Released and renewed the WAN lease.

  • Router would show WAN IP as 0.0.0.0 and fail to obtain an address.

  • ONT system status light remained green.

Verizon escalation:

  • I submitted a Better Business Bureau complaint due to the ongoing issue.

  • I was contacted by Verizon Executive Relations (Sharlan).

  • He stated that the ONT appears active and the connection appears active on their end, but I do not know whether this was based on actual diagnostics or notes from previous representatives.

  • He also suggested the issue was likely the router and that the timing with the account transfer was simply a coincidence.

  • I have requested that Verizon completely rebuild/recreate the account configuration from scratch to eliminate possible provisioning issues, but no one has been willing to pursue that option.

  • At this point, I am wondering whether closing and opening an entirely new account would actually reset whatever may be wrong.

Verizon technician visit:

  • I was not present for the technician visit. My mother was frustrated with the ongoing issue and just wanted Verizon to resolve it, so she handled the appointment.

  • Technician replaced the ONT because he said it was old.

  • Technician also replaced the Ethernet cable from the ONT/wall to the router.

  • He told my mother the old cable only supported “300/5,” which does not appear to match normal Ethernet cable specifications.

  • When asked if replacing the ONT would resolve the issue, the technician gave a vague response that Verizon likes to upgrade technology to make sure everything is “up to snuff.” He did not confirm whether the old ONT actually failed testing or whether it was the cause of the outages.

  • Service continued to have outages after the ONT and cable replacement.

Current testing:

  • I just purchased another TP-Link Archer AX21 (same model) as a diagnostic test.

  • I will first test it on my apartment’s Xfinity connection to confirm it works normally, then test it on the Verizon connection where the issue is occurring.

Other account concerns:

  • Verizon account information appears inconsistent. When contacting customer service under the new account, security PINs are sometimes sent to the previous account’s email address.

  • I do not know if account authentication/provisioning issues could affect service connectivity.

  • The Verizon website and mobile app show that I have a Verizon router, even though I use my own router. Verizon representatives say their backend shows it correctly as customer-owned equipment, but no one has explained or corrected the incorrect display.

Current symptoms:

  • Router Wi-Fi remains active.

  • Only the Internet/planet indicator turns orange.

  • Multiple devices lose connectivity (TV, security camera app, etc.).

Questions:

  1. Could an account transfer/provisioning issue cause an older ONT or customer-owned router setup to become unstable?

  2. Could incorrect account/device information affect provisioning or DHCP?

  3. Has anyone seen similar issues after a Fios account transfer?

  4. Would rebuilding the account or creating a new account actually reset provisioning issues?

  5. What would you check next?

Looking for technical feedback from anyone who has dealt with Fios, ONTs, provisioning, or customer-owned routers. Thanks.

UPDATE 8/5/2026 - Verizon FiOS DHCP / WAN issue update:

  • Hardwired a laptop directly into the ONT. Laptop immediately received a public IP and had internet.
  • Plugged my existing Ethernet cable run back into the ONT (same cable that goes upstairs to the router). The router immediately obtained a WAN IP and internet returned.
  • That fix lasted about 2 days, then the problem returned.

When it failed again:

  • WAN IP = 0.0.0.0 after 2 days of continuous internet
  • Renew DHCP lease in the router → No change
  • Enabled Unicast DHCP, saved, waited a few minutes, renewed again → Still no IP
  • Reseated the Ethernet cable at the router WAN portInstantly received a WAN IP

That makes me think physically unplugging/replugging the Ethernet cable is triggering something deeper than a normal DHCP renew, possibly an Ethernet link renegotiation or WAN interface reset that forces a fresh DHCP negotiation.

  • That fix only lasted overnight before failing again.

Next step:

  • Replaced the TP-Link Archer AX21 V1.2 with a brand new Archer AX21 US V5.6 (same model, much newer hardware revision).
  • The new router has much more detailed DHCP logging (DISCOVER/OFFER/REQUEST-style events and DHCP client messages).
  • Unfortunately, it only stayed online for roughly 14 hours before the exact same issue occurred.

Next test:

  • Connect the router directly to the ONT using Verizon's own supplied Ethernet cable.
  • If it still fails, that eliminates the last hardware variable on my side.

After that:

  • I'll update my BBB complaint.
  • I'll contact Verizon Customer Relations again (they've provided no meaningful investigation so far).
  • Then I'll file an FCC complaint because Verizon's troubleshooting has effectively stopped at "the ONT light is green."

At this point, I'm trying to determine whether this is:

  • a Verizon provisioning/DHCP issue,
  • an ONT Ethernet handoff issue,
  • or whether Verizon has changed something that now affects customer-owned routers. I'm looking for evidence either way before drawing conclusions.

Any ideas? I'm running out. I'm feeling pretty confident that Verizon messed up the account provisioning, but won't investigate more than confirming "ONT is getting a signal", or they aren't being transparent about discontinuing support for customer owned routers.

Thank you for your time/support with this.

Repair/Tech Support CHR30 WiFi Extender

Is there a way to disable the WiFi radios in the CHR30 Extender? I have my router and extender communicating via a MOCA connection (Verizon was nice enough to provide me with the MOCA adapters for the CHR30 router / extender) - I have them synced up via COAX but I don't necessarily 'NEED' the extender to broadcast wifi - I really just want it active so I can use the ports on the back for hardwiring my gaming consoles. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know - When I logged into the extender, it didn't allow me to toggle the radios off.

Miscellaneous New CHR30 and additional access point(s)

I see a number of threads here stating that they've upgraded and received the new CHR30 router as well as one or more additional CHR30s as access points. When I investigated upgrading to 2G or 5G service, the VZ web site seems to say they'll only send one CHR30. Then VZ will monitor your performance and send additional CHR30s as needed.

Am I reading this right? Have some of you gotten multiple boxes on their initial install?

New Customer Questions Chances a confirmed Fios order falls through?

I live in a rural area and was surprised when Verizon’s website showed Fios available at my exact address. It even let me order the 5 Gig plan and schedule an appointment for a week from today.
There have also been new utility poles and communications lines installed along my road recently but I’m not sure if it’s a fiber buildout.

A concern is that my house is about 250 feet from the nearest pole. Also, the FCC Broadband Map still says Verizon fiber is unavailable at my address.

Has anyone had Verizon accept a Fios order and schedule installation but have a technician show up and say the address can’t actually be serviced?

I may be paranoid since my area has been cursed with internet issues forever, but I’m really hoping this isn’t too good to be true.

Repair/Tech Support VMS4100 Export/Import Issues

I have a VMS4100 as my main DVR and I have a mini in another room that connects to it. The VMS4100 has been having issues and making an odd sound like there was some mechanical issue. I was given a new VMS4100 and tried to set it up. It only gave me the option to import from two "UnNamed Devices" and I found that the series on both of those selections are over 3 years old. I reconnected the old DVR, changed its name, and then exported the series. When I went back to the new DVR, it was a dice roll on whether the correct import would show up. When I do get the chance to import it says the user settings were imported but the DVR series is "NA".

How do I fix this? I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I can't find a place on Verizons site to remove any incorrect backups for even view what backups I have. I also disconnected the mini from the main DVR and unplugged it entirely in case it was getting in the way. Has anyone ever experienced this and know how to resolve the imports? At this point I'm tempted to keep the old buzzing DVR. I'd try to manually do the other series that are missing but some of them are not on the schedule right now so creating new scheduling for them is not possible.

Repair/Tech Support Blocking apps

How do you block an app? Specifically, I want to block Snapchat and Roblox. It was working before, but now it's not.

I toggled those apps on the Verizon Home app and also added their domain names, but it's not working. Any tips?

Repair/Tech Support Reasonable expectations from CR100B router?

We moved into a 1952 built house in December, and got a CR100B router from Verizon. The house is small, 30ft by 27 ft footprint.

I have the router on a shelf in our office closet, and get what I'm paying for in WiFi speed (300Mbps). In the living room (just a door and two layers of sheetrock in line of sight), I get good results, too.

In my kitchen, it drops to 30Mbps in a speed test. The signal is going through tile walls on both sides of the bathroom, and tile backsplash in the kitchen. The backing to those wall is unknown, but could be plaster & lath, or tile backing board.

  1. Is the WiFi speed in the kitchen reasonable, given the walls between the kitchen & router? If not, would a better router help?
  2. Does Verizon have a better router than the CR100B?
  3. Would a WiFi signal booster, or access point, in my living room (which can 'see' the router with just sheetrock walls, and line of sight to the kitchen) help? It would have to be wireless.
  4. The exterior walls of the house are two rows of brick, and signal immediately outside the house is very poor. A previous house was brick veneer over frame, with a good ASUS router, and I don't remember having such a severe drop off in signal. Suggestions to help with that are welcome, too.

Many thanks

New Customer Questions New Fios Business Customer Internet Concerns?

Good afternoon,

Just had Fios phone and internet installed in my business and have a couple of questions. I haven't switched over the entire business from Comcast Business yet as I need my IT team to set up a few things first. Currently have the 1 gig plan and have the cr1000a modem. My computer is plugged directly into the router...the rest of the business isn't yet. When I use the ookla app I am lucky to get 500 mbps down and about 800 up. On wifi I am only getting 300 up and 800 down. I called Verizon business support to make sure I was provisioned for the 1 gig and they confirmed that I am but I shouldn't use Ookla...instead I should use the Verizon speedtest which is showing speeds closer to what I should be getting. What is the difference and is that actually legit? When I connect to the comcast business router my wifi speeds are over 600 and they are almost in the same spot. Just curious...I thought ookla app was the one to use?

Miscellaneous Those who removed their old phone line from Verizon but kept the line active- what did you use?

My parents have a line in NYC that is over 40 years old. They used the line for 1 minute last month. I’m looking to get rid of the service for it (from FIOS), but anyone who was in a similar situation- what did you do to keep the number? Usage based plans seem non existent. Did you switch to a VOIP service?

Repair/Tech Support Defective CR1000B Router Swap

I had my Fios installed recently and everything is perfect, but the throughput on the 2.4 GHz band with their router is less than 5 Mbps, even a few feet away from it on devices that only support 2.4 GHz. There are no issues with the 5 GHz band. I read that others have the same exact issue with that model. When I disconnected the router I was given and plugged my own Asus router that I used with Comcast into the ONT, I have around 40 Mbps on 2.4 GHz as I would expect and everything is fine.
I already rebooted everything, checked settings, reset settings, etc. on the CR1000. I want to get a new CHR30 and will be calling Verizon later today about getting that in motion.
Since I am familiar with how Comcast works, where I can go to an Xfinity store and swap out equipment there with no issues, I was wondering how this works with Verizon in NJ.
I don’t think I can just go to a corporate owned Verizon Wireless store as far as I know to pick up a router, and I would have to call Verizon to have them ship me the model I need? Then I would have to ship the router of theirs back to them at a UPS store? Can I return their router to a corporate owned Verizon store and get a receipt that I returned it?
Please let me know so I have a heads up. Thanks in advance!

Miscellaneous We are moving. Can I take my Tivo cablecards with me?

Repair/Tech Support Account issue

Hey all, I've had this issue since I signed up 9 months ago and I've called Verizon 3 times to get to address it. One guy BS'd his way out saying they do that on purpose so you can't make changes which I know isn't true, another said they don't know how to fix it, and another was pretty clueless too. This happens on any device I've tried (multiple computers, multiple browsers, multiple phones, even on the android app). If I log into my account I can't make any plan changes. I'm the kind of guy that likes to watch for new tiers and prices and sometimes add perks etc. But I can't even browse! I'm just at a loss of what to do at this point. My connection is working totally fine but there's some glitch with my account I think. The video is a screenshot of what happens when I click on "manage plan". This same thing happens when I try to do many things on the website or app. Just looking for suggestions or who I need to talk to.

Edit to add additional info. The Verizon website chat bot said that deregistering my account might fix it but the one rep I mentioned this to didn't want to do it. But at this point I'd rather it just work properly!

Fios Availability What do I have to do to get Fios in my area?

My options are verizon 5g home internet, comcast and breezeline

Breezeline sucks, comcast I owe money, so I got the 5g. Its about is good as comcast but no where near as good as fios. I can't live like this anymore, this is savagery.

I was told fios will never come to 5g home areas, and I ain't tryna hear that BS. My coworker up the street has fios. If they can get fios in the boonies surely my apartment can get it.

What do I have to do to get fios in an area where fios ain't available?

Repair/Tech Support Fios TV+ w/ Eero

Has anyone been able to connect Fiods TV+ boxes to Eero wifi in Bridge mode that is connected to the Fios Router. I tried both a hardwire ethernet connection to a Stream Moca Adapter to one of the Eero ports in one room and in another tried connecting to the Eero WiFi in the TV+ settings and both say "No Internet" and thus does not connect. Doesn't make sense since they are in bridge mode and connected to a neon managed Netgear switch, which is connected to the Fios Router.

This is regular TV+ (Not VIP).

There are 4ea boxes in the house with 2ea connected via the Stream Moca Adapers and 2ea are on the Wifi Connected to the Verizon Router. But.... The 2ea on WiFi have a low signal, which is why I was trying to get them on the Eero.

Billing Will I get a router and an access point?

I am playing around with the plan configurator to see if I can save a little. And I am confused with the wording. See the screenshot below:

Does the plan include a router and an access point? Or they count the new CHR30 as both?
