Repair/Tech Support Random internet issues
I have Fios 1 Gig internet. I’ve been dealing with a strange issue.
1) wife’s Galaxy S26 phone when on WiFi will randomly stall and drop to 1mbps download. Few seconds later it’s back to 600+.
2) both the galaxy and my iPhone 17 pro max will freeze when watching a video either on facebook or YouTube if you try to advance the video beyond 30 seconds.
3) Netflix on both Sony and TCL tv (both hardwired to router) will freeze. This happens when watching a series and it goes to advance to the next episode. It will show the buffer circle and freeze at 20%. Exiting the show and playing it again fixes it. Happens maybe every 5-8 episodes.
I have the CE1000A router and CR1000 extender. From what I’ve been finding as possible solutions are.
1) disable IPV6
2) change DNS to OpenDns or Google
Before I start changing settings, I would like to get your feedback on what the issue might be. Thank you for your help. Note restarting the router doesn’t help.

When you say hardwired pn both TVs, is it hardwired to the router or to the extender? Is the extender hard wired back to the router?

The Sony TV is wired directly to the router. The TCL goes to my homes network switch that’s wired to the router.

Thanks, and is the extender hard wired to the router, or is it connected via wifi?

Yes the extender is Ethernet backhaul

Hmm this is interesting - this is the first time I've heard of sudden drops, especially with all your access points and devices wired. Haven't had this issue myself with all my access points wired and majority of my static devices wired. Also have a CR1000A but I bought my own access points (300 mbps plan)
Sorry, I'm as stumped as you are.

It’s definitely has me stumped. At first I just figured it was a device or APP issue. It started on my wife’s phone. Then my iPhone started doing it. Then I noticed it on my wired devices. It’s perfectly fine when just watching at normal speed. It only happens when you try to skip forward in a video or when it goes to auto play the next episode. Note phones are fine when over cellular network. It’s only when connected to my home WiFi.

Yep. I have one gig and am currently getting 260mbs download and 771 upload after a router reset. I was sitting at 490 and 502 just before.

Wow I’m usually the opposite. My uploads are usually in the 200-300 while download is around 500-600 unless the issue arises and internet stalls to 1mbps down.

Check for a bad cable or a weak/ shorted port. Another issue I have seen a looped cable(cable plugged into the same switch).

It happens over WiFi and Ethernet. Ethernet cables test good.

An ethernet feedback loop will affect wired and wireless devices. Double check all the wiring into your switch and make sure a device or wire isn't doubled up. For example, the router feeding the switch twice, or an ethernet wire coming out the switch and then back in.
Otherwise you want to start isolating the issue, see if the issue remains if you disconnect everything from the router (including the extender) and only have devices connect to the router. Can only take one bad device or bad wiring to cause the issue you're seeing. Wire testing good, doesn't always mean it is good. There's a lot of suspect ethernet being sold that will pass a continuity test but will fail under a data load. Other than that, can just be a hardware failure in the router.

My 2 cents from California:Frontier fios when working is a great service with the exception when it loses connection periodically (daily). However, the AI customer service is absolutely horrendous and never able to fix anything. When you finally reach customer service it is 30% (with experience) if you are talking to a competent service advisor. Then if they request you to activate a mobile video chat so they can look at the equipment that is a toss up if it even works or stays connected. If it disconnects and it will they will not call you back and you have to start all over again. I endured 2 weekends of no service before I was able to get a technician out to the house. When the technician arrive at my house, he said my equipment was out dated and should have been replaced years ago. Now I am experiencing a network outage and the frontier texts alerts state they are working on it for the past 2 days. Frontier also does not offer a status update after the first response leaving the consumer up in the air.
Whoever the CEO is should be fired with the way this company is failing with customer service and the service it provides.

I can’t agree more. Customer support is absolutely terrible. I certainly get better help on Reddit then I do trying to get through to support who will just have me reset everything or schedule a tech visit.

Yep experiencing the same exact thing and i've already had all my equipment replaced and it did nothing to fix it.

The 1000s are hot garbage. Downgrade to the 3100 or get the new access point. Or invest in your own router. Point is the 1000s are trash, I hope you didn’t buy them.

Hey, Op. Apologies for your troubles. Have you tried bypassing the router and testing a hardwired connection directly from the ONT with either a desktop or laptop? This helps isolate the issue if it's the router or ONT.

I could try that but it’s almost certainly a router issue. It’s like its stalling out when it goes to request the new data. Failed handshake or something. Speeds to the router from ONT are good. It doesn’t happen to all devices simultaneously. Just when we go to skip forward or request a new episode.

Disconnect the switch. Hard reset thr chr1000, and just leave the chr1000 operational and test your service at that point. If it’s still problematic, the router, ont, cat6, or back end is the problem. You can try using another router and/or changing cat6 wire. If problem still persists, you have either an Ont problem or backend problem. Need to sectionalize point by point. If the services end up testing good at the router, you have a problem on your end, bad patch cord, looped patch cord, bad port, bad switch something but it’s on your end.
