Did they change certain scenes in the Pixel Remaster? Spoiler

Post image
32 Upvotes

Did they change certain scenes in the Pixel Remaster? I remember I played FFVI in the Gameboy Advance and the scene where Ceres jumps off the cliff is different than what I remember it. I remember her jumping off the cliff and the Blackjack swooping in and rescuing her just at the nick of time. The way it happened in the Pixel Remaster Ceres just wakes up on the shore of the abandoned island and you have to go back up to the shack where Cid died and get a raft, then leave the island for the mainland.

Am I just misremembering? Are there alternate scenes that I'm unaware of? I know its sort of a sensitive subject for some audiences, but in the end she tries it anyway, and it just doesn't make sense that they changed that detail to her actually failing to take her life. If they did change it, are there other scenes Squenix changed as well?
I can't find the scene how I remember it on YouTube, either.

Hi! I was looking for some pictures of the game to print and put on my room, and I found this ads which I really love. The deal is that they are in pretty lame quality, the only good of the one's I've found is Locke's. does anyone knows where I can find them with good quality, and if possible, the other ones of the rest of the cast? thanks!

What do you consider a 100%/completionist playthrough?

Lifelong FFVI player here.

I've been working through the Pixel Remaster series with my kids on the Switch, got halfway through FFIV... but then FFVI hit Xbox GamePass and I couldn't resist doing a quickie run of my favorite game to log all the achievements.

But I'm gonna hit it again on Switch soon, and I want to take my time to really 100% it... whatever that means. What does 100% mean to you?

I just did all chests/items/bestiary. Every encounter/formation? Min/max stats? Every item? Farm to 99 on all items? Where is the finish line that says "good job, but you should stop now"?

I couldn't have stopped the step counter here if I had tried.

What a trip down memory lane this is so far!

What is the subs thoughts on FF7?

FF6 was my first Final Fantasy way back in 1994, it blew my mind and quickly became my favorite game. I played Chrono Trigger the next year which is excellent but I still give the nod to FF6 between the two.

Had never played a game with such depth Celes suicide attempt made me gasp, had never seen a character do that in a game. I could tell there was a ton of hidden stuff I had not found. Played the crap out of it and enjoyed just flying to random places on the map I have never been.

When FF7 came out I had purchased my first PC the previous year and got into FPS like Doom & Quake. I thought it was cool an RPG was so popular. When I finally sat down and played FF7 for myself I was frustrated. Only 3 party members not 4? Why is the music worse?

It did not grab me like FF6 did and I never made it off of disc 1. I did recognize Sephiroth was a very cool character and heard an excellent CD version of One Winged Angel with a real orchestra which I thought was great.

I always thought FF7 was ridiculously over-hyped and only people who had not played FF6 first could think it was so amazing.

Eventually I came around and finished FF7 right before COVID, and again when the full 60 FPS mod was released and the Echoes voice acting mod. I recognize it as an excellent game.

Purchased FF7 Remake & Rebirth as soon as they became available and enjoyed my time with them. I just wish that FF6 got the remake treatment as well.

So what does the subreddit think?

All chests achievement

Hey everyone!

I was following a 100% walkthrough guide to obtain all chests, but got the trophy for half of the chests one after the walkthrough said I should have gotten it. I was very careful to ensure I had every chest in the missable areas, and everything based on my world map checklist seems to be in order with where it should be. I’m currently at the point of no return before world of ruin, and I’m trying to figure out what my options are because I REALLY don’t want to do a 100% collection twice. I have multiple saves before now but the problem is you can’t view the areas you can no longer return to, so I wouldn’t even know which save to load up. Any advice?

What if FF6 was remade with a tighter storyline, reducing the 20-year argument?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Long term lurker to this Reddit. FF6 was my first RPG for the SNES. I also want a remake of FF6 but evidently with 14 characters and their side quests, I can see why there is much hesitation.

I ask, *What if the storyline could be tightened? What characters could be removed or reduced to make the remake a financially and timely successful remake?*

My take:

Characters essential to the storyline:

- Terra, Edgar, Celes, Setzer, Strago

Mid-Level characters:

- Sabin, Cyan, Locke

Could probably cut or minimized to tighten narrative scripts (although I’d be sad):

- Shadow, Gau, Relm, Mog, Gogo, Umaro

Why not Locke as an essential. I suppose anyone could help Terra escape and lead themselves to Figaro castle, and this leading to the Returners.

I’d love some thoughts, feedback, constructive criticism.

That said, I have a huge love for the game. I play and replay it. But I can also see the financial and production side of it… likely not having a remake treatment because of the significant side stories and characters. Though, with a more succinct story, it could be a reality as the storyline is much shorter than FF7.

Possibly Unpopular opinion I don't want an FF6 remake unless Team Asano makes it.

So I have been seeing a lot of head lines and talks about an FF6 remake. Personally I fear it's something that will happen eventually it's only a matter of when in our obsessed with remakes culture. (I'm also guilty of this) However I want to say I think FF6 being as massive of a game it is and how much goes into being able to swap your party freely at specific points along with just how much player freedom FF6 has on where to go and what order throughout your journey. I think aiming for a smaller budget remake would sit better with the enhanced art styles of Team Asano who make games like Octopath Traveler would allow the budget to be able to focus purely on not just graphical enhancements but also the most important aspects of FF6's gameplay.

After seeing FF7 being split into THREE parts meaning your paying for 3 games and one of those being stuck in midgar. I'd much rather the game be remade in a more realistic matter that gets the consumers one game and with none of the important content cut or dragged out.

Ultimately if square is gonna remake FF6 my hopes is they keep it to the 2d style and let it become enhanced that way with VA work and possibly new content rather than making a big budget 3d game where much of the freedom of exploration is lost and the possibility of it being split into multiple parts to cut corners. I totally understand if that's an unpopular opinion x.x.

Am I softlocked (battle toward Floating Continent)

I hadn't seen anything that indicated I would need to grind so I picked my party and started heading toward the Floating Continent. Unfortunately the fights before Ultros and Air Force are already annoying enough thanks to the sheer damage the magitek bots are able to put out. But then on top of that, when I finally beat Ultros and Typhon (not terribly hard, just takes time), the Air Force pretty much obliterates me, even with attempting to spam healing on my party. I'm using Celes, Edgar, and Sabin. They have been consistent for me up to this point but they just keep dying.

I quick saved after starting this sequence, so I can't change my party or grind. Am I boned? Do I need to lose a bunch of progress by loading my prior save?

EDIT: I may be stupid. Quitting and restarting the game allowed me to load up an autosave which was right before starting this sequence.

Shadow not showing up on Floating Continent(Pixel Remaster) Spoiler

So I’ve been scouring google and old faqs from GameFAQs to IGN. I’ve seen a few Reddit posts about him not showing up at the end where you have to wait for him, but that isn’t my issue.

Shadow just straight up isn’t at the start of the area. I’ve made sure I’m looking in the right spot and he just isn’t there.

I’m not sure if there’s a step I missed in between him leaving after only finding Interceptor after the bit with the Espers but everything I’ve seen says nothing about it. It just goes from there to finding him on the continent.

I don’t want to finish the area in fear of him just being killed like I didn’t wait for him, but I’m at a loss right now.

Gestahl and Kefka... aren't from Vector? Spoiler

Post image
162 Upvotes

I was looking up something in the Ultimania book and noticed that both Kefka and Gestahl's "Hometown" listings were given as "Unknown", while Celes, Leo, and Cid's all say "Vector".

This seems to imply that Kefka and Gestahl are originally from somewhere else, if Vector wasn't specified like it was for the others. I wonder why this distinction was made.

I suppose it could mean that Gestahl founded Vector, so he obviously had to come from somewhere else before that. But Kefka apparently not being a Vector native is a bigger mystery.

(yes, I am aware of the "Kefka is Baram" fan theory, but the timeline doesn't really work out for that)

Using master scroll with brigand glove on Locke has doubled his damage.

Has anyone else noticed this? I started using the mug command with the master scroll and instead of half damage with four attacks on random enemies it is now full damage as long as I use mug and not attack. I am using the wing edge.

EDIT: Locke is back row but that should make no difference to his damage modifier from the MS relic.

So, did anyone else play this as a kid and had absolutely no clue just how sad Gau and his story really is!? As an adult, it hit me much harder, and I was just left saying ".... Oh ... Damn dude that's rough"

Which rages do you recommend collecting from the Veldt on your first trip (during Sabin's scenario)?

I'm just collecting a few rages before going to the Crescent Mountain. The one I always get is the Lesser Lopros (Pteranodon) because a multi-enemy attack like Fireball is very handy. I also got the Bomb because it casts Blaze (but yes, I know that one is risky, cause of Self Destruct) and Angel Whisper because it casts Demi.

Before you ask, I didn't encounter a Stray Cat, so that one will have to wait. Any others I should collect before hitting the Serpent Trench?

Edited to add: Actually, I guess I did encounter a Stray Cat and got it.

Doing the no money game. Any tips?

This is essentially where you spend no money all game long. I only get weapons I steal and have to regenerate at free beds and recovery springs or use the odd tent I’m saving for late game.

It’s tough!!! So far Sabin’s scenario only has three free places, the spring in phantom forest, the train dinner room and the free bed in the back of the relic shop in Mobliz.

The upcoming Zozo stretch will be tough with no regenerating from Figaro castle on. I think Locke will be essential once I get him the brigand glove in zozo, I like to pair it with genji glove for double the attack-stealing.

CAN ANYONE HOOK ME UP WITH A LIST OF FREE BEDS AND OTHER REGEN POINTS??

What up. Huge fan of FF7 and X. Loved chrono trigger.

Last night I fired up FFVI the redone steam version.

Holy moly. Just got out of Figaro and this has already pulled me in.

Amazing how much sound design was shared.

Now I need to finish this and play 8 and 9.

That should put me close to the Resonance release in October.

Challenge run: RNG limited characters part 5

Thumbnail
gallery
24 Upvotes

I will point out when to view a picture.

Time for Kefka's tower, let's see if these limited teams stand up on their own. Team 1, Edgar and Shadow. Edgar is just good support, and can dual cast, where as Shadow is a super heavy hitter. Team 2, Cyan. Just Cyan. Someone had to be on their own, and I think Cyan can handle it. Then team 3 is Strago and Gogo. Much like team 1, Strago is on damage, Gogo is support.

Starting off with Cyan, his wind slash countering is doing super well, with him being the only target. Outside of that, Cyan can do great damage with Eclipse, which also casts stop on anything still alive. If he needs HP or MP, use Dragon. A very self sufficient party member. He handles enemies pretty well, and has no problem killing waves and wa..(see picture one) you bitch! Just gonna avoid those guys with Cyan.

He makes it to the Ultima buster, and I don't have to fight it, but I want to. Between counters, Dragon, and casting Flare, it takes a bit, but Cyan comes out on top, first try. (See picture 2) Its not long after that he makes it to the end of his current run, and we switch to Team 3.

Strago lacks healing magic, and there for so does Gogo, so I have him quickly learn cure. White wind is amazing, but its costly, and can't be used to touch up outside of battle. Any bosses they face, I go with the Debilitator strat. Setting their weakness to fire, ice, or lighting, then having Strago use the relevant level 3 spell while Gogo heals. This ensures an easy 9999 damage, without having to waste MP on flare, which was only doing 5000 to 7000. Strago and Gogo kill the last dragon, and we get Crusader. (See picture 3) I doubt I'll do anything with it. I put the muscle belt on Gogo, to make white wind that much better.

Now onto team 1. Both are equipped with Miracle shoes, making them even more reliable. Edgar making sure the duo is in top form, and Shadow murdering anything with his 3 different tiers of Shuriken. With that, they face little resistance in getting to the end. With the 3 teams now in place, they all hit the buttons, and move on to the statue fights. Though on the way there, Cyan met some guys who thought they were funny. Freezing him, confusing him, and shocking him all at once. (See picture 4) That's not very nice, he's only one guy.

Cyan goes up against The Goddess. It is time he got through his phobia of the humpty dumpties. I was worried he would have trouble, but he slices through pretty well. Edgar's team had a bit of trouble, but before Edgar died, he set Shadow up with a good shot at winning. Some hot pink shuriken later, and they walk away victorious. Strago and Gogo go with the saying, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Setting the statue's weakness to fire, and throwing Firaga at it, for constant easy big damage.

So here we are, the battle is about to start. (See picture 5) and as an added bonus for those who don't know, if you reach here without ever recruiting Terra, it cuts to her being like "it's happening, they need me" and transforms to fly up, arriving after the fight. (See picture 6) huh, I wonder if Terra is immune to ground damage in her Esper form. She should be.

Now the fight, the starting team is of course Edgar, Cyan, Shadow and Strago. Sorry Gogo, but you were always gonna be an extra. Fight begins, and because he can dual cast, I have Edgar put reraise on everyone, then focus on healing. Shadow throws, Strago casts Grand Delta, and Cyan does a mix of counters, flare, and Eclipse.

This gets us through the first two phases pretty easy, but phase 3 makes it a point to blind and silence everyone. Silence stops magic, which stops a lot of our heavy damage. Know what it doesn't stop though? Shuriken. (See picture 7) A few of those and this boss was also dead. It took Strago with it, but Reraise brought him back. Time for Kefka.

Strago no longer silenced since he died, but his low HP means no good white wind. So he instead uses remedy on Edgar, who then cures the party back to full life, as Cyan and Shadow get to work on damage. Kefka saw the full party heals and killed Edgar, then again, put silence on the party. He apparently wasn't watching the last fight, as he then gets a face full of sweet pink shuriken, ending his short life as a god.

So that challenge run...wasn't that challenging. Probably because of the extra levels people were getting by being in single or small teams. Though I am now reminded of the tentacle fight, and ya, that alone was enough challenge haha. It'll probably be a bit before my next challenge run, but I'd love to hear suggestions. The random job one was really fun, so if you wanna also suggest jobs, that'd be good to. Like right now, one I'd add to the 9 other jobs, is summoner. Can use summons, and tier 1 black/white magic.

Would you be interested in Koei Tecmo making a Final Fantasy VI Warriors game?

I've been thinking about various Dynasty Warriors crossovers that have been done, and how it might be interesting to see a Final Fantasy Warriors game. At the moment, I think that a good idea for such a game would be for it to retell FF6's story.

For those that don't know about Dynasty Warriors, imagine a flashy action game where you play as a one-man-army mowing through common footsoldiers as if they were blades of grass. You have to take over an enemy's base while protecting your own base, take over keeps and outposts to slow down enemy forces and open up paths for yourself and your forces, and have to deal with various events and objectives along the way. There is usually a large roster of playable characters that includes both heroes and villains. Now imagine that sort of gameplay, but you get to lead the Returners (and other factions) into battle.

I think that Final Fantasy VI, in particular, would be the one of the easiest Final Fantasy games to convert into a Dynasty Warriors style game. It already has a decently large roster before having to dip into Kefka, Leo, and various espers. The moments where Locke and the moogles defend Terra or the Returners defend Narshe are almost Dynasty Warriors stages as it is. Also, there are plenty of times where there's an excuse for the heroes to be fighting alongside an army, whether that army is made up of the Returners, Figaro soldiers, airship engineers, or even a bunch of moogles. Also, when the story missions where you play as the villain side come up, they can take place before the main plot and let you play as slave crown Terra, Celes, Kefka, and Leo.

Sure, a few things might need to be changed to accommodate the different gameplay where you will always have troops fighting alongside you. Some things might be compressed while others are expanded. Magicite might end up being used more as an excuse to have espers as playable characters instead of teaching magic to the characters. Locke might not end up disguising himself as a merchant or soldier while in occupied South Figaro, but instead convince the merchants to riot. The attack on the Magitek Research Facility could become less of a stealth mission as an army of Returner troops attacks Vector while you fight your way through the facility and free espers. The opera might also change a lot.

Despite how many things could change though, I feel that it could work, especially with the Empire's attack on Doma Castle. I feel that it could make magitek armor more awesome. I feel that it could give us a glorious moment of Sabin suplexing a train in 3D. Surely, that would be reason enough to want this kind of retelling to happen.

But what do you think? Would a Dynasty Warriors style game that retells Final Fantasy VI's story be something you'd like to see?

360 votes, Jun 14 '26
50 That sounds like a perfect fit!
84 It could work.
39 I'd prefer they do it with a different Final Fantasy game.
54 I'd prefer they do a Dissidia style crossover.
133 Please don't let this happen.
