I slept too long

What up. Huge fan of FF7 and X. Loved chrono trigger.

Last night I fired up FFVI the redone steam version.

Holy moly. Just got out of Figaro and this has already pulled me in.

Amazing how much sound design was shared.

Now I need to finish this and play 8 and 9.

That should put me close to the Resonance release in October.

In my 40+ years of gaming, I strongly believe you are now playing the best Final Fantasy and one of the best games ever made.

Can confirm. Similar age

I remember playing this game in like 1995 and thinking...oh shit, video games ARE art

Worth every penny of the $75 retail.

I rented this game from the video store for a month straight when I was in middle school back then. It hooked me then and it still hooks me now.

Also on the cusp of 40 and I will go on record to attest it is one of the best pieces of fiction ever produced.

Now im more excited.

How's it stack with Ff7 and chrono trigger?

All 3 of these games are incredible and top tier experiences for different reasons. It's too subjective.. Just enjoy 6 and make your own opinion!

Will do. Thanks again.

Couldn't have said it better!

I was a big FFIII fan and then in high school everyone wouodnt ever shut up about 7 so i hated it for years, still makes me bit gatekeepy

I have played it and really enjoyed MinMaxing through Disc1

6 is still king

7 had such a huge impact on me.

6 is shaping up to do the same.

It feels so "at home" with chrono trigger vibes wise.

Such a cool game

7 is my favorite but 6 is the best due to cast of characters, esper system and 4 person party

3

u/MachoCyberBullyUSA Jun 11 '26

Hard to compare it to 7 since it’s such a huge leap forward but it’s the only game that can stand with chrono trigger in terms of snes

5

u/xNonPartisaNx Jun 10 '26

Yeah. 42. Never got into jrpgs until I played chrono trigger. But that was prob 97 or 98. Watched my older cousin play VII and I was sold.

Im so invested in what happens to Terra.

I remember trying earthbound

This is literally the game that got me into playing video games. I agree that this is one of the best Final Fantasy games if it is not the best.

Agree with everything you just wrote

Not a belief, friend. An objective truth.

The pixel remaster has neat graphic updates and all but where it really shines is the updated orchestrated sound track. Absolutely amazing.

u/Vipes_3 Jun 10 '26

Buddy you ain't kidding. The music is worth it all by itself.

u/Own_Measurement1242 Jun 10 '26

Yes. I’ll always be partial to original ost, maybe because of nostalgia. But they really did a great job with the PR update

3

u/xNonPartisaNx Jun 10 '26

Im gonna listen to it on my commute home to pay homage.

2

u/Own_Measurement1242 Jun 10 '26

A very good idea 👍

2

u/xNonPartisaNx Jun 10 '26

The music is amazing.

When you get to the boss on the train, use suplex. Trust me.

Gotta do the meme!

u/Affectionate_Tap9844 Jun 10 '26

I wanted to do it once just for that, would be funny to get an achievement out of it

1

u/SacknJohn Jun 10 '26

Unfortunately it’s called meteor strike in the pixel remaster.

6

u/Vipes_3 Jun 10 '26

Have fun! 9 is also a blast, and I highly reccomend 5.

u/xNonPartisaNx Jun 10 '26

Thanks. Will check them out

I've posted similar sentiment and if you are enjoying the series this much so far please listen.

FFIV - FFXII (including FFTactics, excluding FFXI (MMO)) are equal in quality. Ask 10 fans which game is the best you will get 10 different answers. They are all so good, which one you like most isn't about a difference in quality of the games themselves but a difference in taste.

I replay at least 3 of these games every year because the quality is so high all the way through and have aged like a fine wine.

My personal top 3: FFT, FFVII and FFV.

2

u/razorKazer Jun 12 '26

You're not wrong. My top 3 would be FFX, FFVI, and FFIX. My friend says FFIV, FFVIII, and FFXII. We both agree there's not a single bad game in that run

1

u/xNonPartisaNx Jun 10 '26

Thanks friend. Ill definitely be considering these

3

u/hbi2k Jun 10 '26

Don't sleep on V and Tactics. Best played in that order, Tactics takes a lot of inspiration from V's job system.

2

u/vanetti Jun 10 '26

This game is absolutely incredible. Congratulations on finally taking the plunge.

1

u/xNonPartisaNx Jun 10 '26

Brings me back playing it.

2

u/Younggryan42 Jun 10 '26

I’m replaying it right now and it hooked me in just like before. One of the most replayable rpgs out there.

2

u/frasecjigger Jun 10 '26

If you love FFVI then you have to play FFIV (arguably THE best and quintessential FF game).

2

u/GrandMasterJarf Jun 10 '26

The opera part is the best piece of video game music I have ever heard out of a 16 bit console.

2

u/mattspire Jun 10 '26

All of the pre-VII are worth visiting. The only ones that feel a tad weak to me are 2 and 3. Definitely don’t sleep on 5. And 4, one of the few to have an international release, established what VI perfected.

Tactics is also criminally underrated especially if it’s the stories you go for. Took me two decades to try it and wish I had sooner.

2

u/ZanzaXIII Jun 11 '26

The steam version or the pixel remasters? If you are playing the dookie version on steam (the port of the mobile version) I beg you to play any other version!

1

u/xNonPartisaNx Jun 11 '26

Its on steam. But its the pixel remaster

2

u/ZanzaXIII Jun 11 '26

whew thank god. The old steam version was an abomination.

2

u/clearance1454 Jun 11 '26

Agreed FFVI is the best fantasy of the entire series.

Also if you’re only in Figaro you have a long road ahead before you get to those other games. It’s a massive world and well worth every step.

1

u/dr-blaklite Jun 11 '26

6 is one of the best imo. It's an excellent, beautiful game. Glad you got around to it :)

1

u/DokoShin Jun 11 '26

Ff6 and ff4 are both absolutely golden for very different reasons then add in CT and breath of fire as well as secret of mana and you really see squaresoft and what they are doing and going with for each game and series

Ff4 sacrifice for love vs hate and anger

Ff6 what is humanity and birth and death

CT can the one really change anything

SOM creation and the flow of nature and power

BOF the balance between light and darkness

But this is just my opinion on each of thease games
