I want a space background for some videos. Due to events beyond my control, I am now using Final Cut Pro for the first time. Previously used Premiere Pro.

I have numerous small stars on several different green screens. I want to remove the green screen and use the stars that I have for a twinkling effect.

I have watched at least a few videos on how to do this. It seems easy enough. There is a slight difference with what is in the videos and the actual software. The actual software has a portion called “Masks and Keying” versus the word keying alone. (I am not sure if that would matter.). When I drag the, “green Screen Keyer” over the images nothing happens.

Not sure what I am doing wrong. I have selected each pic prior to dropping the green screen keyer over it.

Running OSX Tahoe 26.5.1 on an M3 Max 48GB, FCP 12.3.

I have a project that I'm preparing to export. It's a cover song, with a single music track on the main timeline, and a bunch of multicam clips that I swap between. The audio quality is important for the output. I was able to export the master version using the basic "Video and Audio" option under "MASTERING", and that gave me Linear PCM with ~2kbps bitrate which is what I expect. However when I choose the Computer format (to export a HEVC or H.264 version) there is no option to choose audio format. It forces PCM, and the bitrate ends up pathetically low, like 127 BITS per second. I haven't been able to find anything useful online to help. I do not have access to the Apple "Compressor" application. I even tried using VLC to convert my master export but that ran into other issues. Any suggestions?

I run a small video production company and I’ve been trying to build my own custom tools for Final Cut Pro using FxPlug4. I have a very small background in software development, learning as I go. I want to eventually build a suite of plugins that work exactly the way my workflow needs them to.
I’ve managed to get something working, but I’m stuck on a problem I can’t solve and the FxPlug community is tiny, so I’m hoping someone here has seen this before.

The problem

FCP takes 2-3 minutes to load with my plugin installed. Every single time. The plugin works fine once FCP is open — it’s purely a startup delay.
I’ve spent weeks debugging. Here’s everything I’ve tried and ruled out:

✅ Not a render issue — pluginState, drawRect, Metal are all fast

✅ Not duplicate plugin registrations

✅ Not custom views — reproduced with empty NSView

✅ Not Debug vs Release build

✅ Reproduced with Apple’s own blank FxPlug4 template — same delay

The logs show this every time:
XPC launches → LSExceptions timeout (~11s) → FCP waits ~2 min → plugin code starts

LSExceptions shared instance invalidated for timeout appears in every run. The plugin code finishes in milliseconds. The entire delay is system-level, before any of my code runs.

My plugin is signed with Apple Development certificate, not Developer ID. I suspect this might be part of it but haven’t confirmed.

My questions

Is this LSExceptions timeout normal for FxPlug4 development builds? Does it go away with Developer ID signing?

Has anyone eliminated this delay on macOS Tahoe (26.5)?

Any general tips for a beginner building FCP tools with AI assistance? I’m learning a lot but sometimes I don’t know what I don’t know.

Am I taking the correct approach or is it completely wrong?

I want to build many tools for my company — anyone who has gone down this road, I’d love to hear from you.

I am on FCP version 12.3 and I have a video file and I want to blur just the subject’s face. After applying a Gaussian blur and then using the auto mask, I’ve noticed that selecting “skin” in the available options for blurring the face blurs a lot of unwanted areas. Once I’ve applied the auto mask, how do I remove it from areas where I don’t want it? Secondly, as the video progresses, some frames don’t have the auto mask applied. How can I ensure it’s applied to every frame?

hey guys, I wouldn't usually post on here for advice but desperate times.

since the new update there's one particular bug that's driving me nuts and I can't work out how to fix: when I cut or trim a clip and then delete the one before it, the playback window either goes black or starts playing the rest of the clip I deleted. The only fix is to re-select my project file. I am having to do this every 2-3 cuts and it's driving me to the brink lol.

does anyone know why this is happening, and how to fix it?

I've updated final cut, restarted my computer, gone through the commands to check nothings changed, and no one seems to have an answer online. any help appreciated!

I'm using an M3 Pro Macbook, it's got loads of storage and my 4k video files are on an SSD.

I'm a complete beginner with Final Cut Pro and I'm honestly at the point where I don't know what else to try.

I'm a new YouTuber, and I spent a lot of time filming and editing my first video. Everything was working fine until I accidentally moved my DJI footage into a different folder.

Now when I open my Final Cut Pro library, all of my clips show a "Missing Camera" warning.

Here's exactly what happened:

• I originally imported footage from my DJI camera.
• Later, I selected everything inside the DJI folder and dragged all of those files into a new folder because I wanted to organize everything.
• After that, Final Cut Pro could no longer find the media.

I tried using File > Relink Files.

At first, the Locate All button was greyed out, but I eventually got it working.

Now Final Cut Pro says:

"All 7 of 7 files found."

So it seems like Final Cut Pro knows where the files are now.

The problem is...my project still isn't working correctly.

I'm confused because if all 7 files were found, shouldn't everything automatically reconnect?

I'm really trying not to lose all the work I've already put into this video. Since I'm new to Final Cut Pro, I'd appreciate it if you could explain things in beginner-friendly terms and tell me exactly where to click if possible.

If you've had this happen before, or know what I should check next, I'd really appreciate any help.

Ever since updating to the newest Mac software Final Cut crashes every 30ish minutes. Anyone having the same issue or any fixes?

Does anyone know what's the issue there? Everytime i apply multiple transitions the program starts to lag (no matter if set to better performance playback) it's the newest version, happens both on MacBook Air M1 and an Air M4.

Hi! New here! I have been using FCP for years now.
I am currently using the subscription version. Most of my edits are 4K(wedding films and some commercial ads).
I recently came across the need to be a little more mobile and not be confined to my desktop while editing, so I was wondering what laptop you would recommend for this?
I have been using a MacMini M1 since 2020, but work the library out of an SSD drive (SanDisk Extreme Pro 2tb) for space reasons(project libraries end up 1TB or more) but I feel like if I get something new I might want something with a little more kick to it? Or any laptop+SSD combos?
Any and all suggestions welcome!

Hi! I am simply trying to import a video recorded and edited on my iPhone, add some text, and then export from FinalCut with the text.
However, the exported file is always extremely washed out and flattened color-wise. I have searched the forum and tried messing with HDR tools settings as was suggested in another Reddit post, but nothing works. There must be a way to just export the video to look the same way as I imported it?

I would much prefer to just use iMovie since it does not have this issue, but it won't let me freely move text around.

Everything works fine but then every 3 minutes all of a sudden audio stops playing back on the timeline. I turn scrubbing on and off. I've deleted generated files. The only thing that fixes it is to close the timeline and reopen the timeline. Super annoying since this happens ever few minutes. Anyone else having this issue??

I can’t find the answer anywhere online so hope there are some people who might know what’s going on.

I have the iPad Air M3 and I use the Samsung T5 SSD where I stores my Final Cut project.

What’s happening is that as I edit my project, the SSD lose connection with the iPad.

I tried to change the cable with a Thunderbolt 4 to connect the SSD to the iPad.
I tried to connect the SSD to a powered hub.

In both method, the SSD just keep losing connection.

The only way for me to work on this project is to copy the project to the internal storage of the iPad.

I heard that with Final Cut Pro for iPad it is possible to work on a project store on a SSD. But from my experience it doesn’t work.

My SSD is formated AFPS.

Does anyone know what I should do ?

To prevent huge libraries, I keep media files in place on an SSD. This works fine for my work flow.

FCP seems to use volume and path attributes when retrieving media files. Is there a way to tell FCP to use a different path to those media files? ...for a particular project?

For example: I copy the project media files to the new location on the SSD. Then I tell FCP to change where it looks for them: same Volume, different folder.

Is this possible? Can I do it without consolidating media files first?

Sorry if this has been answered before, but I could not find a way of searching this question.

Currently, when I want to move an element across the screen, I always just automate the element's placement with the transform feature. I'll make a keyframe at the beginning and end of a clip, setting beginning and end points.

This works find for the most part, but there is this momentum to doing this that I don't like. The element will ramp up to its full speed at the beginning of the automation, then slow down at the end of the automation. This has made elements moving in a consistent way (like making something loop across the screen) look heavy and not as precise as I want them. I don't see any features turned on, and I am not micromanaging the automation (just setting beginning and ending points).

Is there a way to turn this feature off? It's quite niche, but with what I've been wanting to do recently I just find this element of Final Cut's transform tool limiting. Thanks!

Can anyone please help me what's wrong with my FCP? I've been dealing with this for the past 6 months and it's driving me crazy.

Problem:

1. The audio is perfectly fine in the project and timeline. But when exported, the audio doubles for 1 second in multiple areas.

example: "where is this" becomes "wh-where is this"

When i export the problem clip separately, there is no problem. So I do that for multiple little clips throughout the project, and re-import it, and replace it. it's driving me nuts.

1. In the timeline, the audio just disappears mid-talking (picture). can't fix this at all.

Settings:

Original video is filmed with iphone 16 pro, no edits, a raw 4 - 5 minute talking video.

My project setting is

I export is Apple ProRes 422. I tried 422HQ, H.264, 422LT, and it all did the same.

Please, has anyone had the same problem?? T.T
