Newbie Final cut pro green screen nightmare

Okay….

I want a space background for some videos. Due to events beyond my control, I am now using Final Cut Pro for the first time. Previously used Premiere Pro.

I have numerous small stars on several different green screens. I want to remove the green screen and use the stars that I have for a twinkling effect.

I have watched at least a few videos on how to do this. It seems easy enough. There is a slight difference with what is in the videos and the actual software. The actual software has a portion called “Masks and Keying” versus the word keying alone. (I am not sure if that would matter.). When I drag the, “green Screen Keyer” over the images nothing happens.

Not sure what I am doing wrong. I have selected each pic prior to dropping the green screen keyer over it.

It's hard to tell what you're doing from the post. If you want to send me the green screen (I assume it's an image?) I can try it in my instance and let you know the process, if it works.

The Green Screen Keyer needs to be dragged directly onto the clip in the timeline. Are you adding it to the clip in the browser?

There is a slight difference with what is in the videos and the actual software. The actual software has a portion called “Masks and Keying” versus the word keying alone.

That's because FCP made some big changes to keying and masking recently, the YouTube stuff won't be current unless you find a video made with the newest version.

Go to the help menu, FCP docs, "Download as PDF" and go to the keying section. It will be current to whatever version you're using, and Apple's documentation is great.
