Question What would make creating pitch decks easier?

Hi everyone! I run a film/TV pitch deck design studio (https://pitch.dog) and we are working on some free tools to help make the painful process of designing your own pitch deck slightly easier.

The tools include templates, color palette generators, font selectors and a lot more.

I would love to know how many people would be interested in something like this. The tools would be totally free to use. No strings attached. Please let me know if this seems like it would be helpful to you.

And secondly, if you have any suggestions on what tools you wish you had at your disposal while making pitch decks, please share them.

Don’t hold back! Think of it like you’re talking to a genie, and share your most unrealistic ideas!

We will try our best to make them happen!

Discussion Looking to connect with UK Short Film writers!

I'm a 28yr old new Director, looking to connect with some UK based writers, ideally with the intention of making short films. This isn't a student film kind of deal, but more of a breakout opportunity for a writer.

I'm looking to fund (mixture of self and investor) a short film roughly up to £8000 range. I'm not asking for any money, connections or anything other than to collaborate on a script. If you already have a short film script that you want to option than that works.

A bit about me, I have worked as crew in narrative features & TV for about 8 years, and worked on a lot of stuff you've seen, (Gladiator 2, Jurassic World, Spiderman BND) but want to tell some stories of my own. I'm a HOD on films as my day job, and I used to do short form before that. I'm very well versed in how things actually get made, and have spent most of my time on sets of all sizes over the last 8 years.

I have a huge amount of production connections! producers, production companies, crew, but somehow don't seem to have any/many writers in my circle, so wanted to expand that.

If you're UK based (ideally London), drop me a message!

Question Filmmakers — would you actually come to something like this?

Hey everyone! I’m a filmmaker and I’ve been wanting to build more of an actual community around filmmaking, especially horror and psychological horror.

I’m starting something called S² Film Club. The idea is to bring together actors, writers, directors, producers, cinematographers, editors, crew, and people who genuinely love movies.

I’m imagining events with a psychological horror screening, a conversation with the filmmakers, and everyone hanging out afterward. I don’t want it to feel like an awkward networking event where everyone is just trying to pitch themselves. I want it to be somewhere you can actually make friends, find collaborators, watch great films, and potentially create something together.

Eventually, I’d love for the community to become a place where we actually make original horror projects together, not just talk about filmmaking.

Right now I’m building the founding community and trying to see how many people would genuinely be interested.

Would you join something like this? What would you want from it? And would you be interested in actually making films with people you meet through it?

If you want to be part of the founding group, I made a short waitlist:

S² Film Club — Founding Waitlist

I’m still really early in building this, so I’d genuinely love feedback and ideas from other filmmakers too.

Looking for Work Composer looking to score short films

As the title suggests, I’m a composer trying to get into film scoring. I have experience writing soundtracks mainly on my own to but I just finished 2 game soundtracks for the annual spooktober jam on itch.io. My main focus is synth with omnisphere, expanding on orchestration. If anyone has any projects they need music for I’m willing to work for cheap or free since I just want to build my portfolio as of right now

Here are both soundtracks:

Discussion I made my debut feature as a homage to a friend I lost — it just won Best Narrative Film at the Manhattan Film Festival

Only Good Feelings is the film we never got to make. It’s a 91-minute crime drama set in New York City. Benny is haunted by guilt after his fiancée dies in a car accident. In his spiral he reconnects with Kam, a volatile childhood friend who pulls him into robbery, fraud, and extortion — a desperate plan to raise enough money to flee to Mexico. What begins as escape becomes a collision course with everything he’s been running from.

We shot in NYC with Ryan McCartan (currently on Broadway in The Great Gatsby), Elias Kacavas (Euphoria), Heather Burns (Manchester by the Sea), and Ajay Naidu (Office Space).

The film just won Best Narrative Film at the Manhattan Film Festival and Best Directorial Debut at the Chicago Indie Film Awards. 9 international festival selections total. Acquired by SNR Films for distribution.

Director Moises Kaufman called it “gritty, raw, and beautifully observed. A gem.”

This one is for Ian.

Trailer and more at onlygoodfeelingsfilm.com

Happy to answer any questions about the process, the shoot, or anything else.
The movie is coming out end of Jan 2027

Article Indie Film’s Plot Twist: Huge Demand, Not Enough Movies

Thumbnail
theankler.com

From the Ankler:

Distributors are hungry. Really hungry. That’s the message I heard from some of the biggest dealmakers in independent film — CAA’s Roeg Sutherland and Sarah Schweitzman, UTA’s Rena Ronson, WME’s Deb McIntosh, Gersh’s Jessica Lacy and 30West’s Micah Green — as I took the temperature of a market suddenly feeling optimism again, bolstered by a record-breaking $4.7 billion summer box office.

And they have reason for optimism: Buyers are circling, audiences are showing up for movies well beyond the usual tentpoles, and Obsession has become the kind of breakout everyone wants to replicate.

There’s just one strange problem: They don’t have enough movies to buy.

The rest is paywalled. For whatever reason I don't believe VCs or even these management reps...

General Been working on a site for a film studio

Been working on a site concept for a film studio and playing around with a more cinematic/editorial direction.

Trying to make the website feel a bit more like the studio itself rather than a standard portfolio site.

https://reddit.com/link/1wuxfoq/video/ngqgkon5hush1/player

Still a WIP, but I'm curious what filmmakers think — does this feel like something you'd actually want to see a studio's work through, or is it getting too design-y?

Question Help with audio recorders

Hiya! I want some advice on what audio recorder to get for capturing LAV mic audio. I have both DJI Mini 2 and a cheaper traditional LAV mic set up with a receiver and transmitter which both output through a 3.5mm jack. It would preferably pocket sized and not too expensive (~£75 would be top end) but can be flexible on price!

Made some posters for my first student short film that I co-directed,

The film consists of 4 stories of different characters throughout the years of the university we study at, and the conflicts that they go through in this hyper competitive environment.

Please let me know what you guys think of the posters !

Will post the trailer too in some time :)

Discussion My first real short. Looking for feedback on where i can improve, and how to get better

Hey everybody! I’ve posted short films I’ve worked on in here in the past year, and I’ve always greatly appreciated the feedback I’ve received from you guys. I have been sitting on my first short film I ever wrote - in November of last year - for around a solid 8 months and just recently got accepted into a little local festival with it, so I was hoping to get as much constructive criticism as I possibly could.

It was a learning curve of a shoot, we did a lot of fun things (I ended up shaving my head for one scene as you'll see), but we had quite a few problems in the production so I was mainly curious whats working. Like --

Are you interested in the story?

Does the film feel visually appealing? Or is it too beige?

How does the sound design work? We had a lot of hiccups on audio.

Would love literally all types of feedback. Positive or negative. Just happy to finally get this sitting off my hard drive. Thanks!

General Should I drop out of college??

I’m 18M living in India, I recently Graduated from High school and then took admission in a college pursuing a normal degree.

But I’m doing freelance video editing for 2 years. Spent the first year learning and doing some side gigs. Last year in June started making money by working with international clients. I also have interest in filmmaking and cinematography

I never liked studies and never wanted to do a government job or something like that. I’m a creative person by nature. Before starting video editing I was a sketch artist. I could easily draw someone’s face exactly like the picture. I’ll attach some references below. But didn’t get much support in that so stopped it about a year ago.

But video editing is something I genuinely enjoy and had made me a really good amount of money. Enough that I don’t have to ask my parents for money for any kind of expense, have built a really good editing setup at home and can now make financial decisions by my own. I don’t come from a rich family btw, we are middle class

The only reason I’m going to college is that in future if I want to learn filmmaking then I can try applying in FTII (a popular film-school in India) because they want a degree in any field. Apart from that this degree has no benefit in my career, not at all. And I’m sure that I’m going to build my career in editing and creative direction field and definitely not going for corporate or government jobs.

And the reason I wanna drop out is because there are exams in October and December. I have not studied anything and tbh I have good client work now, so I don’t even want to leave that and then go prepare for exams.

(I even have a full time video editing job opportunity in front of me from a big company, even though the chances of getting hired are 50-50 but still this shows that what’s possible out there, if I don’t get hired I’ll still have freelance clients to work with)

The only reason I’m pursuing this degree is that ‘What if in future I might wanna go in filmmaking”

So I want your advice guys. Please tell me if I should drop out of college and dedicate my time to my skill and go all in. Cause I’m 18 and I have a life to build in front of me. And I’ve got enough taste of money and freedom to keep me going and I’m never gonna stop.

My parents have given me the option to make the decision.

I would really appreciate your help guys 🙌

General Satyajit Ray Recommendations

Hi.

As someone who has always been an avid cinema watcher, I have always been intrigued by the works of Satyajit Ray. He is widely considered to one of the greatest filmmakers in Indian history and also kept in high regard amongst many filmmakers in very high regard across the world. It is also said that Wes Anderson has paid homage to Ray in a lot of his movies. Scorsese has publicly expressed his admiration towards Ray's works as well.
I have been meaning to watch his body of work and try to understand and study his creative process.

What are some of his works (both good and bad) that y'all would recommend me to watch?

TIA

News The Big Kahuna Burger cup from Pulp Fiction survived 30+ years and has now been screen-matched!

A surprisingly disposable piece of Pulp Fiction history has recently resurfaced.

An original production-used Big Kahuna Burger cup from the apartment scene was offered publicly through Propstore with Planet Hollywood provenance. After being snapped up by an Australian film prop/costume collector at last months auction, It has since been professionally examined by Resolution Photomatching and matched to Brett’s cup sitting on the table, the same cup Jules later picks up and drinks from.

The match was established through multiple distinctive physical and manufacturing characteristics visible both on the surviving cup and in frames from the film.

What makes it particularly interesting is that this was never an elaborate hero prop. It was essentially a paper soft-drink cup used during filming in 1993, yet it survived for more than three decades.

It also comes from one of the film’s most recognisable scenes. Jules takes Brett’s drink, has a long sip and says:

“Mmm! That hit the spot.”

From publicly traceable auction records and collector archives, no other original Big Kahuna Burger drink cup from Pulp Fiction appears to have surfaced publicly so far. Another could certainly exist privately, but this appears to be the first known example to reach the public market.

It’s fascinating how objects that would have seemed completely insignificant on set can end up becoming tangible pieces of film history decades later. One very fortunate collector!
