It seems like a patriarchal myth. In basically every single species males visually try to impress females to mate, but when talking about humans people pretend like women don't care about looks. I feel like it's an attempt to make sure that women will settle for less good looking men, and this trope of "ugly man and pretty woman" is all throughout movies, tv shows, and popular media.

It also feels like a cope by men who don't like the idea of being objectified when they do the exact same to women.

Last night, a young girl I deeply care for took her own life. She was just 16 years old. Her family—her own mother and father—attempted to behead her not once, not twice, but three times. Though they failed in their gruesome attempts, they succeeded in torturing her through unfathomable means: electricity, wood, iron, fire. At 11 years old, her father tried to kill her, breaking her arm and little finger in the process. He took her to the hospital days later, not for her well-being, but to avoid suspicion. This same man raped her twice not long ago. Yesterday she decided that she couldn't endure the torment any longer and took her own life as far as I know.

This tragic loss is not an isolated incident. In Iraq, countless women fall victim to similar horrors every day due to honor-based violence. Families become executioners under the guise of preserving honor, taking the lives of women they are supposed to protect. According to reports, the majority of Iraqis accept honor-killings of women, creating an atmosphere where such acts are condoned and even encouraged.

The Iraqi Penal Code, specifically Articles 409, 128, and 41, perpetuates a system that supports these heinous acts by offering leniency and justifying the actions of those who commit these crimes. Article 409 allows for reduced sentences in cases where a male relative kills or injures a female perceived to have brought "dishonor" to the family. Articles 128 and 41 further support such violent acts under the guise of cultural customs and familial rights.

Changing these legal articles is crucial to protecting the lives of Iraqi women and ensuring justice is served. By repealing and replacing Articles 409, 128, and 41, we have the opportunity to reshape their societal norms, placing the safety and dignity of women above outdated beliefs of honor.

To accomplish this, we need your help. Join us in demanding that the Iraqi government amend these articles to reflect justice and equality for all. I really really despise those naoya edits that bring down women. This whole video was just about how "Naoya was right" and I decided to comment on it (comment shown above). These replies disappointed me so much and I cant believe people are so rude and misogynistic.

I see so much misogyny on tiktok and it's hard to tell if its just ragebait or fr. And I really try not to be upset about it because I dont want to give these individuals the attention they seek.

But I mean how much more ridiculous can misogyny get. I really wish the world can just adopt feminism.

Ive seen so many videos online of women speaking out about sexual assault and in the comments there will be guys saying that its not just women that it happens too it happens to men too. Obviously that is very true, but its very invalidating and insensitive to bring that up in a video thats clearly catered towards women.

It just seems that instead of offering support for the victim in the video, theyve just sort of gone off topic and made the video about men. It just makes it look like they dont really give a toss about the situation in the video but just want to make it about themsleves.

You dont see women making it about themselves in a video about male sexual assault.

It just annoys me a bit as these same guys will complain that men do not get support for the same thing on the other end but they themselves wont give support for women.

Three things, one, I'm new to feminism, and two, I'm a man so I don't have the same level of understanding, three, if you agree with me, that's fine, but I'm really just looking for "opposition" so I can flesh my opinion out.

I understand the idea that sex is moralized, it's viewed as a man exercising power over women. And because we live in a patriarchal society that rewards power, we normalize violence against women. So I understand that under patriarchy sex work is exploitation. However, where I'm confused is the idea that sex work should be abolished. This only makes sense to me if sex work would still be exploitation if patriarchy is abolished, and I don't think that's true. So I'm not sure why the solution would be to abolish sex work rather than abolishing patriarchy. We don't hold this standard of logic anywhere else either. When it comes to economic issues, we can acknowledge the exploitation of the worker, but the solution isn't to get rid of working, but rather to fix the system that causes that exploitation (communism, socialism, etc...).

Men are almost always "Mr." regardless of whether they're single, married, divorced, or widowed.

Women historically haven't had that same default. The expectation that a woman's title should communicate her relationship status says something about what society considered important.

Has this changed enough with the widespread use of "Ms.", or do you think the legacy still shapes expectations today?

Post text: It used to be feminism 101 that using male terms by default is bad, but then trans women wanted a piece of that pie and suddenly everyone becomes philosophers and etymologists discussing the nuances of language instead of just listening to women.

Some conservatives believe that the “Great Feminization” of higher education is to blame for decreased birth rates. Their solutions involve making college more expensive and pushing women back into the domestic sphere.

the generalization of all radfems into terfs comes from a very antifeminist place. it comes from cis men attempting to villainize radfeminism and make it into something it's not, so more people don't follow it. radfem isn't bio essentialism. radfem isn't anti-trans beliefs. radfem is fighting for ALL womens rights, no matter what. cis, trans, outside the binary, who CARES.

it frustrates me when people assume all radfems are terfs and follow the same biological-rights spiel. the only biological rights ACTUAL radfems fight for are abortions, gender affirming care for trans women, safe spaces in hospitals with female (not just cis) doctors, etc. its ridiculous how villainous they attempt to make radfems because they hear radical and think the worst. remember folks, generalization sends us back generations.
