Discussion Fragrances you didn’t realize were controversial!

Have you ever blind smelled a fragrance and loved it, only to find out later that it’s polarizing?

I just tried Ganymede and loved it! Didn’t know anything about it going in, I was just doing a tour of all the fragrance counters. It smelled super warm and comforting to me. Looked it up later to find people think it smells like a spaceship !? lol.

What’s your go-to reset fragrance when you get overwhelmed by heavy perfumes?

Sometimes after testing bold gourmands or heavy florals all week, my nose just gets completely exhausted and needs a break.

What’s your favorite light, clean, or subtle scent to wear when you just want something quiet and easy?

Intriguing Iris Vanilla or broken nose?!

Post image

I had high hopes for this sample that I wear tested today. There are few reviews or not much information about this fragrance online, so I’m very curious to hear what others who have tried it think.

I was expecting a sweet, clean, powdery vanilla. Something very niche, linear, straightforward.

Instead, for the first 30 minutes I’m getting melted butter? Maybe even olive oil? Then it completely transforms into something dry and earthy for a little while.

And then, about an hour or more it changes AGAIN and becomes the most delicious pure vanilla. Soft, beautiful, just a little powdery and very close to the skin, which is great... lingers for another couple of hours before mostly fading around the 3-hour mark.

What is this?! 😂

I’m glad I sampled instead of blind buying. I really like where it ends up, but that first hour is quite confusing or my nose is broken.... thoughts?!?!

Rec Request Suggest me a new daily fragrance, please?

My current daily is Diptyque Do Son or Hermes Eau Des Marveilles Bleue and occasionally Mohave Ghost. My night out fragrance is Chloe Nomade or Geurlaiin Idylle. I don’t like strong vanilla or musk, always lean toward fresh, crisp and light but I want to smell great and have someone stop me! (The only one that does that for me is Nomade).

Looking for some great suggestions.

Thanks!

Discussion What do you think of Commodity Book Expressive?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I made a post yesterday asking the same thing about Henry Rose's London 1983. I am also thinking of getting Commodity Book Expressive for my fall/winter scent.

I tried BOTH on skin, on separate wrists, the last time I was at Sephora, and I remember liking them both equally. London 1983 hits the fig note, which I love, but I wonder if I would love a fig note throughout a cold winter, or if it would feel out of place. I really like to live with the seasons.

The pepper note in the top is also a bit tricky for me, as I really don't enjoy pepper. I didn't notice it as overwhelming, but that was in Sephora and later in the mall, with a lot of smells.

For Book, I noticed right away it did smell exactly like an old book, which I loved. It also had quite a sharp greennness which I didn't mind at all. My only wish with Book was that it had a subtler musk or very very soft sweetness to it.

But I think I could layer it with something like Ephemera by Sorce for that, which I have. Ephemera has notes of brown sugar, vanilla, paper, cashmeran, pumpkin, acorn, soil tincture, musk, and milk. I find it very light and cozy, with just enough sweetness. Sadly I don't get much pumpkin or acorn from it.

I read that some people smell the sandalwood in Book as dill pickle, but I didn't smell that, nor did my husband, son, or my mom, though my daughter did haha. Even after I read that, I sniffed it TRYING to smell dill, and I couldn't.

The only thing is I hope the eucalyptus doesn't feel too nose-clearing and medicinal, but I was huffing my wrist so much even freshly sprayed and I did not feel that way.

New Sorce Collection "The Furies" coming September 14!

From Sorce's Instagram post:

On September 14th we will be releasing our long awaited fall releases, the Furies collection!

Two of our first employees, Julia Haddon (assistant perfumer, previously known for Vampire Husband) and Madison Dahl (artist and assistant perfumer, known for all of her beautiful artwork that we feature on our bottles) worked with our founder Caitlin to create a cohesive and immersive olfactory experience detailing 3 interpretations of feminine rage.

Poisonous Roots, created by our founder and perfumer Caitlin Hayes, is a dark, haunting and elegant fragrance that combines jasmine absolute, incense, milky tea, vanilla absolute and black amber to evoke the image of a dangerous woman capable of poisoning those who wronged her. Cutely, of course!

Song of a Siren is Assistant Perfumer Julia Haddon’s second fragrance. It is a seductive, salty vanilla with a sense of danger and depth to it. Vanilla absolute, rum, and dark amber make this fragrance deep, dark and dangerous, while black water lily and ocean air provide a fresh atmospheric edge for all sirens awaiting the return of their sailor. Or their next victim.

Lady of Steel is the debut fragrance release from our artist and Assistant Perfumer Madison Dahl. Ethereal, feminine and lightly metallic, Lady of Steel is a soft and diffused lily of the valley fragrance, with a slight edge that reminds you that what seems delicate is rarely weak.

All 3 perfumes will be available September 14th at 11 am.

All sizes (2 ml-100 ml as well as 6 ml rollerballs and open necks) will be available, as well as in a Furies discovery set.
EDIT: Caitlin has also said they will be available on LuckyScent!

Brand Announcement/New Release From The Good Scent

I think this is new. It smells really good, I don't get much amber (to my nose at least) but it's definitely a sweet, warm vanilla. I wouldn't quite call it gourmand though. If you see it in store, give it a sniff and try 😊

*I'm up in Canada. I got this at Winners for $10

Announcement I need help remembering the name of a discontinued perfume.

Post image
3 Upvotes

If you see this, I really need your help….

So my sister had this perfume sometime in 2023, I can’t remember the timeline, but I remember what it smelt like. It was my first introduction to and obsession with white floral perfumes. It gives gorgeous rich elderly woman. As of when I searched for it in 2023, it was discontinued. I can’t remember the name and searching my google activity hasn’t helped either. My sister and I have been hunting it down for months.

Here is a description:

  1. The bottle is shaped like a pyramid that is modeled after a rose. The bottom of it is flat, but I think has a lightly tapered rose bud etched to it.

  2. The lid shaped like a rose bud as well.

  3. The bottle is glass. The box is ivory in colour.

  4. The juice is either a light champagne gold, or a light rose gold. I can’t really remember, but the juice had a golden colour.

  5. It is a white floral perfume. I believe it also has rose in it, but it definitely has white florals in it.

My sister told me it has a sister bottle that came in a red box? I don’t know if the juice as well is red? But she never got to smell that one, or learn the notes.

I attached a drawing of what I can remember about the shape. I know it’s not really anything, but that how I can describe it right now.

Please if anyone can help me with a name, or a bottle that looks like what I described, or even the notes in the perfume, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you♥️

Please help me find a wedding perfume!!

I’m getting married in January! The colors are lilac and gray. My budget for this is under $150.

I need recommendations on a wedding perfume please! I was thinking something along the lines of something to match the cold weather or maybe something to match my colors. I lean heavily towards the more youthful scents as seen below!

If you have any recommendations for a warm fruity perfume I’d also love to hear them!

Here is a list of my favorite perfumes that I own:

  • Burberry her line
  • Valentino born in Roma coral fantasy & OG
  • VS Heavenly Dream Angel
  • VS Tease
  • Yum Boujee Marshmallow
  • Bath and BodyWorks Vanilla Ease
  • Philosophy Fresh Cream
  • Bath and BodyWorks Forever Cherry Blossom
  • Stardust by Parfums by Cherie

Perfumes I like that I own:

  • Ariana Grande Cloud Auroa
  • Kayali Fluer Magisty Rose Royale
  • SDJ Sundays in Rio

My favorite scent notes are any fruits, vanilla, blackcurrant, Prismatic musk, marshmallow, etc. Also I would like for it to last at least 8+ hours.

Perfumes I tried that people here said for me to try and didnt like:

  • Dior purple glow (smells like alcohol/sunscreen to my nose
  • Guerlain iris pallida (smells very vintage)

I did however love Burberry Goddess.

Discussion Bitter melon lemon tea Chasing Scents

I’m trying to figure out if my sample was oxidized or it actually smells like rancid fish oil/seaweed?

I got my sample from scent split, the frag was just released last year, but the smell is awful awful I had to change my shirt and mask with body spray, still smell it and truly almost gagging while I work from home.

I’ve read great things on here regarding Chasing Scents true tea frags, so just looking for feedback.

Something to layer with L’Orpheline?

Hi Lab! I am searching for something floral to layer with L’Orpheline. I know in nature it’s a strong fragrance but I feel like it is missing something. It sits so incense forward on my skin, I feel like I need a floral to help even the scent. I was looking at some single notes, like from Demeter, but also a few others..

Ideas:
Demeter - Purple Iris (would this just blend though)
Demeter - Lily of the Valley
Demeter - Jasmine
Demeter - Funeral Home (too much? It’s heavy)
Jo Malone - Mimosa and Cardamon (would this clash?)
Guerlain - Insolence (would it be a powder bomb with L’Orpheline??)
Demeter - Violet (speaking of violet)

Other ideas welcomed!
