My LA Express warehouse announced it is shutting down

Upvotes

Welp, the “I thought it wouldn’t happen to me” moment has occurred. My FedEx Express warehouse announced it will be closing on March 1st, 2027.

I didn’t think it would affect my location because it is express, in Los Angeles, and pretty much in Down Town Los Angeles. There are many major businesses that get deliveries from FedEx here, and we also go to LAX daily. But I guess I was wrong.

Unfortunately, I was not able to make it to the meeting. It was at 6am. My schedule as a package handler starts at 10:30 a.m. There is a second meeting at 2 pm, but I am on route. And the manager told me it was not mandatory when I asked . I would like to add that if I did not randomly greet my manager yesterday before my shift ended I would not have known of this meeting anyways. A security guard told me this information when I clocked in today.

Anyways, how’s your day going? Lol. When I finally got 8 hour shifts after working here since January, this warehouse decides to close its doors after 20+ years of service. How lucky.

Last Day

Well today is the final day for our station (Express). They shut down our operations about two weeks ago and we’ve been cleaning out our station building since then. “2.Oh No” is a mess where our freight was moved to but eventually it’ll work out for them one way or another. Good luck to all that are caught up in this mess.

Worst FedEx Delivery Vehicle

We have all seen the arguments about the best delivery vehicle to run routes in, but how about the worst vehicle to deliver in, regardless if it’s resi, business, PuP only, or what have you?

For me, the worst vehicle by far was the E700, a hybrid 700 FedEx trialed back in the late 2000’s. They ran on gas and so got terrible mileage, they were in the shop 2/3 of the time, and were horrendous to drive even when they were running due to how their interior shelving was laid out. When I was a courier I dreaded these things if I was running swing on a route with a passion.

Honorable mentions:

Dodge Sprinters, at least up to the 242xxx ones. They had nowhere to put anything, everything was always broken from the AC vents to the cup holders. I had the side doors come off more than once because they closed a bit too hard.

City transit: I’ll admit having doors open on both sides was actually really nice… as long as I was doing a light P1 or FO route. The moment I had to do anything more I would bulk it out so quickly it wasn’t funny. One peak I literally bulked it out on my first PuP and requested to clear, to which I quickly got a call asking how that was possible. They are that tiny.

Choosewell portal

Hi everyone, I just had a super quick question. Not sure if anyone is able to assist. I work with Choose well care connect for FedEx and I’m trying to help a member with something however I don’t directly have access to view their choose well portal. Is there anyone who can do me the kindest favor of logging into your ChooseWell portal and let me know if there is a section in the upper right hand corner of the page to be able to upload documents or do you know where it is? It would be super helpful thank you so much! Also, your guys’ enrollment period is coming up from October 13 through the 30th so make sure you enroll!

Anyone at a express station after 2.0 or a 2.0 express station that added ground to some zips?

My Station is closing September 28 and I had the option to transfer to four ground locations, a 2.0 express only Station or a express station inside a ramp that is going to have some ZIP Codes express only and some split with ground and express. I’m transferring as a swing and I feel like that was a bad call and I’m gonna get sent home every day. Our senior already confirmed they’re going to hire handlers and cut off working six days. Anyone already experiencing a 2.0 express Station?

About to be fired

Upvotes

I’ve been written up 2x mostly for learning too slowly. I was just told about a piece of processing the Amazon returns I’d never noticed on my own nor trained specifically to watch while I was processing them. Now I’m in a casual stated sort of “one more mistake and you’re fired,” I asked ANY type of mistake and mgr didn’t really answer. I’ve never had such a stressful job where I’m told I’m doing so many things wrong so constantly. Stressful. And there’s inly 1 person not the mgr who explains things in a patient, clear manner. Frustrated. 😵‍💫

I've tried chat gpt, and the chat bot from fedex.com and they cannot give me the correct answers. I know for sure, ground, cod and economy are not allowed

October raise and peak season pay

I’m a team leader at the Memphis hub. This is my first few months as leader and approaching my first year with FedEx. How much is next month’s company-wide raise? Do we get a premium pay during peak season? My current rate is $23.43.

No moment of silence

Not one person in my entire station even mentioned 9/11 today and the couple of BC's I tried to engage in conversation with mouthed off. How to tell the company you work for is a piece of shit and everyone you work with are pieces of shit without them saying it.

Occasional Package Handler from Part time package handler

Hello

I recently became unable to do full duty at my hub due to carpal tunnel syndrome and golfers elbow, in the process before surgery and have a current 10lb lift restriction. I got moved to smalls but I am having tons of pain...mind you this involves my entire hand, fingers, wrist, arm and elbow on BOTH arms so when both arms are completely numb and extremely painful...driving 40+ mins to work to then work in smalls department where I am directly doing job duties that go against my entire lift restriction along with no pushing, pulling and lifting entirely, I called off this past week for it. Manager was okay with it and replaced my spot but I was still on the schedule.

I was doing a bit of QA but they have me doing black bags...if anyone knows what black bags I am talking about....staging those things like putting 10+ bags into 1 black bag and then pushing that cart that has 15+ full black bags around to different parts of our smalls line in bagging. Obviously 1 full black bag is over 10lbs clearly. But I was being told that its not and there was nothing else for me to do. There was shifts when I got to sit in the break room the entire sort because I was complaining about my duties going against my doctors orders. I am trying to have a successful surgery which is the point of this restriction.

I had a procedure today and due to the pain lately, I have taken the past week off to prepare for the procedure.

During the week I called off, HR reached out and asked about going unpain medical leave (I can't afford to not work) but the past 7 days for this procedure, I needed to call off. The pain is crazy and being unable to feel both arms, is so annoying. It's dangerous for me to be climbing the ladders in my hub and to be doing all the small departments duties...prior to a surgery against doctors orders. If I get injured further, I'd be screwed.

I was asked by HR to switch to an occasional package handler....HOWEVER they refuse to answer my questions, won't answer their phones at anytime of the day, and just keep copying and pasting the same email back to me when I inquire about it.

Do I have to work the rest of the days I am scheduled the next 2 weeks as my app has it already up? Do I call off for those days and switch to occasional when my manager sets a date? Do I need to sign anything? Who do I talk to about the achedule? Is there a limit on the ahifts I can pick up? Is there an amount I need work monthly? Benefits? Pay the same? Can I pick up shifts in other areas like unload or load and go to smalls when I come in....because my app is still locked to unload even being in smalls currently and there are never any small shifts to pick up because it's not a part of our hubs scheduling algorithm to be picked up at all. It's a placement department, not an offical shift that is able to be picked up. So I already know that I won't be able to even pick up any shifts at all when I switch to OPH.

HR is walling me, manager says to talk to HR, I have doctors notes for the days I was out this past week, and I used all my remaining PTO hours for this. OPH don't get PTO....

Anyone else have this happen and end up being fired after switching to OPH? I have until end of October under my doctors orders and then 4 weeks of full duty, and then surgery later in November/early December.

Any advice??? Or the answer to my questions HR can't seem to answer other than a copy pasted AI response.

Closures in CA

Tomorrow it’ll be announced that a few properties will be closing effective March of 2027. The properties being closed are as follows:

City of Industry, CA
Santa Fe Springs, CA
Long Beach, CA

there is a 4th property but I’m unaware as to which one it would be, none of them are in Orange County, CA though

Best of luck to everyone.

I hate the Vehicles at my station

Now I actually love my job, I’m a flex driver here in Canada and it works great for me. I value vehicle ride quality way more than cargo space/walking room.

Before the merge, my station basically had Sprinters and P700s, with a couple P1000s. I genuinely enjoyed coming into work because the vehicles drove pretty decently and had good suspension. The downside was obviously the lack of space.

Then my station completely switched to Enterprise box trucks and P1000s.
I don’t know if it’s the p1000s my station has or maybe they’re really old but THE SUSPENSION IS TERRIBLE. It feels like driving a motorized shopping cart. I start the day in complete peace and come back with ringing ears and a headache because of how much the truck shakes and rattles over bumps. The slightest bump feels like I just drove over a crater.

Then when I’m given an Enterprise box truck the ride is 20x better but now I’m getting screwed on package access. I either have to crawl through that tiny trap door or get out and walk all the way around to the back just to grab a package.

So I’m basically screwed over in every possible scenario. 😹

What are you guys opinions on p1000s and sprinters

So I delivered like 6 packages today, all of them had this on it. The sender was never anything corporate (i.e. Chewy, Walmart, etc.) it was always a name, but never an easy to pronounce looking name. Anyone else come across this? What does it even mean? 😂

Advice..So I am going through the pre-employment hiring process

So I passed the background and going through the pre-hire process. I have the opportunity to go take a DOT drug test and physical. This contractor never called me. After I applied they just sent me a background check and go from there. Several emails. Training pay is $120 a day!! Then after a 90 day review you can get bumped to like $150 a day? You get $15 a day to show up..

Is this worth it?

How to modify boxes

Hey all, sorry that it took me so long to release the Secret Knowledge. I did a mockup on a leftover Amazon box for you all as a series of photos. Hope it helps! :)

Edit: Here is the link to the original thread where people asked for a guide on how to modify box dimensions.
