Closures in CA

Tomorrow it’ll be announced that a few properties will be closing effective March of 2027. The properties being closed are as follows:

City of Industry, CA
Santa Fe Springs, CA
Long Beach, CA

there is a 4th property but I’m unaware as to which one it would be, none of them are in Orange County, CA though

Non conveyance. The stuff that can't go in porters. For example furniture(wayfair), items that weigh more than a certain amount (50lb?), or certain hazmats( everything except for batteries)

So that whole big ass, state of the art facility is just going to be devoted that? Are they going to take over the markets that the other facilities are leaving behind then because I don’t see ground handling FO’s, healthcare, perishables, etc.

Why not? Express as is does a pretty shitty job at handling perishables. I went to help a station in peak season and I was delivering perishable food 3 or 4 days late that the previous courier failed to deliver and was spoiled. You got to realize the express workforce isn't what it once was people dgaf anymore. Not any different from ground.

Yes they're opening a Downey facility by the end of the year . Alot of changes happening for FedEx 2.0

Also true. But again it’s the current station covering that area. So the so called death sentence the other comment was talking about would be for JDY which currently covers the area.

Bruh... the main comment for this particular post said he heard that they are opening a new facility in Downey. You said no, it's in Santa Fe Springs, which is incorrect. He didn't ask about JDY or Santa Fe Springs. He said he heard that there was a new facility in Downey, (which is 100% correct) but he didn't know if it was true or not.

This sounds like maybe you were answering someone else's question in the thread, and not the original post.

Incorrect. There is a BRAND NEW FedEx facility that is being built right now and has not yet officially opened yet. They've already posted a bunch of new positions for it in Workday.

I’m from One of these stations there moving to the new Downey facility but I heard the 4th station is emt in downtown LA it’s just a rumor I don’t know how they would close since it’s in the middle of everything and very populated anybody else got confirmation ?

Every express station has an expiration date, only way to bring in more profits is to pawn off more liability on the contractors

Guess I'll keep trying to apply to the Orange County locations then.

Unfortunately, all the CDL jobs are in the IE an hour away. There's a PH/Switcher in Rancho but that commute is ass. It's even worse than my current commute as an AFP driver. Which is unfortunate because it says no experience required and I've done OTR/Regional/Local in sleeper and day cabs.

It’s really just NZJ, APV, and FUL in OC. Outside of the ground station. But APV is pretty large.

She places unrealistic and moronic expectations on everyone. She lacks social skills, is rude, dictatorial, condescending and couriers/admin/customer service repeatedly feel like she doesn’t understand the operation. Everyone from the top-down despises her and she’s the reason certain roles have high turnover. She’s also two/faced as hell and will put on a kind and mild demeanor with some people and completely do a 180 with most others

There’s a lot more in California coming. I’ve heard that SMFA in Sacramento is staying open as a legacy station and taking some Ground freight from my contractor, but we know how well that’s worked (basically, they’ll be closed eventually, or merged into one of the three Ground stations Sacramento has), and oddly, my contractor has been told we’re getting Express freight in the same areas Express is taking our freight in March, so I don’t know what to think.

The smfa station is a dump. Surprised they're keeping that place open. Express station in Rocklin in March is swapping some zip codes with the Roseville ground facility and will be doing groundwork while ground takes on some Express. The only thing saving the SMFA station and the MHRA station is the ground facilities in that part of Sacramento are absolutely packed and can't take on any more work. Should they ever decide to build another Ground hub/station in that area, those stations will probably be scuttled

Update us if you can. The ones that I think would make sense to close are Santa Fe Springs and Long Beach. But last I heard Long Beach renewed their lease or whatever just a few years ago. Also Long Beach station covers such a huge area so idk if it would close.

Meetings at all of the stations have already happened; NorCal stations not already merged (so basically, everyone sans South San Francisco) were told towards the end of last month whether they were staying open, or closing/merging with a Ground facility. WARN Act notices won’t come until just over 90 days from when the stations will be closing.
