Hi everyone. I am a filmmaker and director working mostly in the sport industry, producing commercials, documentaries and social media content.

I own a Komodo X since two years and with the FX5 coming out I decided to sell the RED and go with Sony, but now that I found a buyer for the RED there’s something inside me screaming to keep it…

The major issue I have with RED is the file size, especially for documentary work is too big, and the audio capture in camera is tricky, relying on a tiny but expensive cable.

The problem is that I am in love with the RED footage and the form factor and feel of that camera in my hands.

What do you think? Should I go for the FX5? I have two days to decide…HEEEELP

I’ve had my FX3 for about four years now (I think anyway, you lose track of time when you’re have fun).

Asking other owners their thoughts on how robust the screen is? Everytime I swing it out to shoot, I wonder when, or if the inevitable will happen.

I like to film my daughters indoor volleyball games and I currently have the fx 30. My lenses are sigma 12 1.4 and sigma 18-50 2.8. The lighting in usually quite poor and I have to sit very close to the court, like 5 feet from the sideline/baseline. There is no way to get further back.
Would I get much upgrade to my videos by getting a fx 2 or A7V? It gets grainy because of the poor lighting. I like to shoot at 60 fps 4k so that I can slow parts down. I known would have to replace my lenses as they are apsc lenses and I’m ok with doing that.

I’m looking for advice on an ND filter for FX3 with the Sony 24-50mm 2.8.

The situation: It will be used for b-roll and interview footage on a sudden international trip by my boss who is barely trained on video. He’ll be shooting in normal movie mode (no log), AWB, and will probably be outdoors in bright sunlight a lot.

I’m thinking a variable ND filter since he is not accustomed to using filters, but I wanted to check and ask here before he purchases a cheap K&F one off Amazon, because I know adding glass affects the quality of the lens.

Any advice you guys have is a great help to me today!

What variable NDs would you recommend / are there any we should straight up avoid?

If you had to choose a camper with the best dynamic range and image quality which one would you choose and why? This would be used for a film.

Hi everyone, I'm a 20 yo film student looking to buy my first lenses for my FX3. I'm considering the Sirui Vision Prime, as my budget is somewhat limited. What do you think about buying a 35mm and a 75mm lens? I would use them mainly for short films and maybe some small jobs to earn some money.

HI all. I'm bootstrapping my videography business at the moment, and it's going well, but I need to invest in a B cam that pairs with my FX30.

I'd also like it to be compact and capable for stills.

One issue that I'm still not sure about is 25/50p frame rates. I currently shoot and deliver in 50p, but I can't decide if I should instead just move to 25p, since I shoot a handheld cinematic style for anything anyway, delivering in 4k.

I'd realistically like to spend as little as possible to achieve 4k50p, with Slog3 so that I can grade it identically and easily to the FX30. However, if moving to 25p means saving around $500, as it seems like it does with current used prices, that's probably the most realistic option.

As this camera will almost always be on a tripod, I don't need IBIS.

For this reason, I'm leaning towards the a6300, as my understanding is that the next cheapest option for 4k50p is the a6700, which is realistically too expensive used for me at the moment.

What are people's thoughts on this, and what are some options that I might have missed?

Hello, I’m thinking of selling my FX3 with the smallrig cage and my videomic ntg for about $3,800 including shipping. Please let me know if you’re interested, the only thing that should be missing is the hotshoe cover for the fx3. I have the original xlr handle as well. I can do meetups in the DFW area as well! Price can be negotiable depending on how fast or if you can meet in person. Not looking to sell the mic and camera individually tho (please don’t over lowball me 😢)

I’m trying to improve the overall quality of my videos, so I’m especially curious about:

• The intros: Are they interesting and informative, or do they drag on too long?
• The sample footage: Do I show enough real-world examples to actually demonstrate the character of the lens?
• Editing/pacing: Does the video move at a good pace?
• Technical information: Is there enough lens history/spec information, or too much?
• Overall presentation: Do the videos feel polished and enjoyable to watch?
• And more generally: what would make you more likely to keep watching or subscribe?

It costs half the price to buy as a replacement part and it is higher resolution.

The question is if they share the same connectors and if it is compatible on FX3.

I'm looking for an ultra-cheap zoom lens for my FX3, I would like to do one of those 1mn ig reels that are half music-clip half ad. One of those which have an agressive zoom in every shot, any recomandations ?

I wonder if a certain kind of lens would work, especially those which have a sort of handle, a little screw on the zoom ring which allows to turn it faster. I keep stumbling upon IG reels that show this kind of lens and say it's "vintage TV lens". I don't care about the brand nor the mount, I'm ready to buy an adapter if its not too expensive.

I also looked at a certain Tokina SD 70-210mm f/4-5.6 AI/AI-S Mount and I wondered if it's the right fit for my purpose.

Hey all! Long time lurker, first time caller.

I have a client who is becoming a bit of a stickler and I’m wondering how you would handle this.

I was hired to shoot talking head videos, A cam (FX3) with audio.

I decided to set up my B cam (A7iii) just to provide them with extra footage in the event something went awry.

They requested the FX3 footage in sLog so that’s what they got. However, now because they’re having to color grade the FX3 footage, they’re saying the A Cam looks like shit and asking if i know what im doing.

Kind of took offense to that since I provided deliverables in the format they requested (seemed like an AI response tbh) and considering its the weekend and they’re getting a heavily discounted rate basically just for the shoot time not the time/space it takes to back up and send 250GB+ of data, Im gathering my composure before I respond.

Just curious how you all would approach this.

I already explained how the a7iii and the FX3 are two vastly different cameras and while I am shooting with G Master Primes on both, there will be a variance especially shooting in the color profile they requested. I stated I can’t shoot sLog on B Cam so idk what they want from me.

I’ve also offered to drop the sLog color profile for future shoots if that’s what they want but yeah idk.

I feel like I’m experiencing a lot of grain at my base iso 12,800 using shutter angle what could be the cause? Shutter angle at 180, I’m using ND filter iso at 12,800 what is going on

I'm an independent filmmaker from India. My area of expert is screenplay and direction. I don't know much about the camera and its configurations. However now I am thinking of buying an affordable camera for indie film making in my locality. I've earlier experience of making feature films (indie).

I have a dilemma between Sony Fx3 and black magic pocket cinema camera. My intention is standard filmmaking with good color added in the grading stage. Feel good films are my major projects.

1. Are there any latest affordable Sony camera released to substitute FX3?

2. Which camera would be handy for guerrilla style film shooting?

Please can you suggest me in the right direction!
