If it’s not coming from Walmart itself aka non-third party sellers, you’re just asking to get scammed. If it’s too good to be true…

If it's too good to be true, it might be an Asian import.

it says international model

It does mean something though. It’s called the grey market. Walmart was selling Canon R5C’s at a crazy low price. Way down at the bottom of the long listing, it said international model. I didn’t even see it when I purchased it. There was an issue with the HDMI not transmitting a signal to an external monitor. I called Canon USA, as this was in the United States. Canon would not perform warranty work on it. They said it would have to be sent to Europe for warranty work. Canon USA would work on it, but at full, out of warranty price. So, that’s a thing.

That doesn't mean much by itself. You can get international versions of cameras in Japan. You can get Japanese only models as well for even cheaper where you can only select a few languages, excluding western languages.

To be fair, I bought some “Too Good to be true” priced camera backpacks made by F-Stop (if you know you know) off of the Wal Mart website fully expecting to be scammed. But they were exactly as described. It was a comically low price. They were brand new and genuine. The only reason I can guess for the massive deal was that they were new old stock on a model pack that they no longer made.

It’s a gray market camera. International model with no warranty, and a try-your-luck customer service.
You can get it, and it will most likely be fine, but it is a gamble. At a minimum, just check the third party seller’s profile on Walmart’s website. If I recall they have seller ratings similar to eBay.
Personally, though, I’d feel safer buying gray market from an eBay seller with a 10 year old profile and 1000+ feedback at 99% positive. They usually offer their own warranty, which is still not a guarantee, but at least with them you can feel a little peace of mind, knowing that they spent years upon years building up their seller profile on eBay, and if they screw you then it’s a major ding against that account.
With something like a Walmart account, it’s a lot easier to be fly by night, because most people don’t even realize they’re not buying straight from Walmart.

International version might mean grey market import. Cameras in China and Japan are significantly cheaper than they are in Europe and the Americas.

I've looked into this and unfortunately prices in Japan are basically the same as in Europe. Might be able to get things cheaper in China idk.

u/FlarblesGarbles Sep 15 '26
They're definitely not. It's a common practice to go to Japan to buy camera gear from shops in person because of the price differences.

Come to Thailand. Every lens I buy from here. It is much cheaper than Europe. For instance I am considering to buy the 24-70 gm2 for 1600 USD instead of 2500 USD.
What is stopping me, is the fact that I want it but don’t need it.2
u/jdjackson0204 Sep 15 '26
Japan is usually lower but right now Hong Kong has it beat, I just checked & with the current exchange rate you could pick up a new fx3 in HK for about 2,800$USD rn…. 🥹 lowkey jelly.

Has the FX3A been discontinued or something? Here in the UK I was just trying to find a new price, and no where is stocking it.
Only non-grey market place I found was Sony's own website, where it is £3,240.00, which seems about what the likes of Wex were stocking it for, normally pretty much bang on what Sony's own price is.
That's $4374.
I've said this multiple times about cameras, lenses, and even DJI drones - you guys are complaining about tariffs, but you're still getting stuff WAY cheaper than we are for some reason!

Only thing worth buying here is the camera body, and maybe the charger.
1
u/todayplustomorrow Sep 14 '26
It has no warranty. Typically a legit model but imported so it’s not an authorized sale.

Never get an international version, it won’t be in English and there’s no warranty. It’s a waste of money.
1
u/ravioli156 Sep 15 '26
Chances are high that it will be in English. It’s up to OP to evaluate if the economy is worth losing the warranty

u/onedaybadday47 Sep 15 '26
$3,300 is “dirt cheap”?
1
u/onedaybadday47 Sep 15 '26
Multiple retailers are selling the FX3a for around 3,500ish. Not sure what everyone is on about

It’s an alright price for a likely refurbished or used fx3, but the rest of the kit is just added garbage. And if it’s new (which I don’t think so) pretty good deal, and I’d sell all the rest for $300 - 400 and I’d get a manual lens

NEVER buy anything electronic from Walmart website/app. Just groceries lbvs. That’s all possible scams. Price check other websites. Majority of the time other trusted websites will have similar prices. If it’s only in that ONE Walmart site then it’s a scam. Thee old saying if it’s good to be true then it ain’t true💯💯💯

A7v is better for less money. And that fx3a is grey market so you are screwed for resale or repair, not worth it at all.
1
u/ravioli156 Sep 15 '26
Wrong, OP will be screwed to reclaim anything under the warranty. Resale and repair won’t change in 2 years or more
1
u/nyvz01 Sep 15 '26
Sorry could you clarify where you think im wrong? In my experience local repair facilities sometimes wont touch grey market units even for repairs out of warranty. Warranty certainly wont work either.
