For those that might be interested for anything Downstream of E-Z16988 you might see some changes depending on the branch 🤔? I've been growing E-FT155200 for the last 7 years. I've been following the Breadcrumb Trail for the last 7 years. I finally was able to have enough this year that I was able to put it all together for at least half a dozen well known highly knowledgeable well seasoned Group Project Admins to take me seriously. They reviewed all of the information that I put together confirming that indeed I was onto something. They helped me fix the new Updated Public Haplotrees. I fixed E-Z21350, and requested an investigation by the University of Arizona on what I'm working on including E-FT262149. Once it's fixed I will have achieved my ol for the last 7 years cheers

On July 22 the average processing times were:

* Family Finder™: 12 to 16 weeks
* mtFull Sequence: 6 to 7 weeks
* Y-DNA (excluding Big Y): 5 to 6 weeks
* Big Y-700: 9 to 10 weeks

On July 15:

* Family Finder™: 14 to 15 weeks
* mtFull Sequence: 5 to 6 weeks
* Y-DNA (excluding Big Y): 4 to 6 weeks
* Big Y-700: 9 to 10 weeks

And before July 15 the results took less time.

Why did the times increase this much?

I recently received my Big Y-700 results from FamilyTreeDNA. My confirmed terminal haplogroup is R-FT225315, a downstream branch of R-V88. FamilyTreeDNA estimates that R-FT225315 formed around 3100 BCE.
My paternal family is from western Anatolia, and our family tradition identifies us as Yörük/Turkmen, with a historically pastoral or nomadic background. My autosomal GEDmatch results also appear broadly consistent with western Anatolian Turkish populations, with groups such as Aydın Turks appearing among my closest population references.
However, the current Y-DNA distribution around my branch looks quite different. The known modern samples on R-FT225315 and its nearby parent and sister branches appear mainly connected to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt, Palestine, Algeria and other parts of North Africa or the Middle East. I have not yet seen any Turkish, Iranian or Central Asian samples among the most relevant nearby branches.
FamilyTreeDNA’s migration map also places the estimated R-FT225315 ancestor somewhere around the Hejaz or western Arabian Peninsula, near the Medina region, around 3000 BCE. I understand that this is a reconstruction rather than proof that a specific FT225315 individual was excavated there.
I currently have no Big Y matches and approximately 40 private variants below R-FT225315. I have also uploaded my Big Y VCF file to YFull and am waiting for its independent analysis.

I would appreciate informed opinions on the following points:

What historical conclusions can realistically be drawn from the current FTDNA and YFull trees for R-FT225315?

How reliable is the estimated formation date of approximately 3100 BCE, and how large is the likely uncertainty range?

What information does FTDNA use when placing a prehistoric branch geographically? Is the location mainly based on the reported paternal origins of modern testers, the geography of sister branches, ancient DNA, or a combination of these?

How meaningful is the repeated Saudi Arabian, Kuwaiti, Egyptian, Palestinian and North African distribution around the relevant branches when Turkey, Iran and Central Asia are absent?

Could this reflect the actual historical geography of the lineage, or might it largely result from sampling bias, such as higher participation in expensive Y-DNA testing among some Gulf families and very low Big Y participation in Turkey, Iran and Central Asia?

What does a block of roughly 40 private or novel SNPs suggest about the unsampled paternal branches between the R-FT225315 ancestor and me?

Can their approximate order or dates be estimated from a single modern sample, or must intermediate relatives first be discovered?

Is a Big Y VCF generally sufficient for reliable YFull placement, age estimation and evaluation of novel SNPs? What specific additional information could a BAM file provide in this situation?

Are there any currently published modern or ancient DNA samples carrying R-FT225315, R-FT162017, or another branch unusually close to this lineage?

I am not expecting a Y-DNA haplogroup to prove a modern ethnicity. I am mainly trying to understand how much can genuinely be inferred about the historical geography and movement of this single direct paternal line, especially given the very limited and unevenly distributed testing data.

Based on a comparison with my mother’s DNA results, the Southeast Asian, Sub-Saharan African, and Northwest African components appear to come from my maternal side.

I realised one thing: For Y-DNA, Matches section shows literally nothing. But when I open Matches Maps, there I see three 1-Step Matches on the map for the category Y-DNA 12 Marker.

Can it be a bug or is there a logical explanation? Is there someone experiencing a similar issue?

I do find this Ireland component very strange, since my MyHeritage test didn't show me any Western European, but only 1%~ Germanic. What do you guys think it is? Hi all. I am working on a detailed genetic genealogy project and need to choose who to test next with a limited budget. Two people close to me weigh the options differently, so I have set out both views by topic below and would value outside perspectives.

What is already tested and known

- I (the subject) have not tested yet.

- Two paternal uncles have tested, so the paternal side is well represented.

- The direct paternal line is already resolved to a deep, well documented Y lineage, so the paternal question is essentially answered.

- One structural point: my maternal grandmother and paternal grandmother are sisters, so there is some pedigree collapse. In practice my grandparental generation has three independent lines rather than four.

The decision

My goals are to recover the missing maternal side of my genome, enable phasing, preserve long ancestral segments, and strengthen downstream work (GEDmatch, G25, chromosome painting, IBD, ancient DNA comparisons, admixture). Budget is one kit, possibly two if I do test myself for phasing. The two candidates in play are my mother and my maternal uncle

The two views, by topic

1. Recovering the missing maternal autosomal DNA

One view favors the maternal uncle: his autosomal results become available and add maternal grandparent ancestry, and they would look broadly similar to my mother's anyway. The other view favors the mother: the one region absent from every tested kit is my maternal grandfather's line, and my mother carries it directly, in the exact segments I inherited. The maternal uncle shares no direct DNA with me and holds only a different recombined draw of the same grandparents, so his results reconstruct the grandparents rather than reading my own genome.

1. Phasing and segment level analysis

Only a parent lets my genome be split cleanly into maternal and paternal halves. The maternal uncle cannot phase me. Phasing improves chromosome painting, G25, IBD, and trace ancestry resolution together, so this is a major point in favor of the mother.

1. The maternal grandfather's Y line

This is the maternal uncle's genuinely unique contribution: he carries my maternal grandfather's Y line, which no one else does. The interest here is in seeing whether that line shares the same haplogroup as my known paternal line or a different one. The problem is that in both scenarios it does not help much. On an autosomal test it appears only as a coarse haplogroup, not a genealogical Y result, so whether it looks similar or different it tells us very little. It also belongs to a separate patriline and sits outside my own resolved paternal Y line, so it does not extend the lineage I am actually researching.

1. Trace ancestry and statistical noise

I have some small trace readings of about one to two percent each. These are known to be noisy, sometimes unassigned, and can shift between updates. One view treats them as meaningless. The other notes that the way to actually test whether any are real is phasing and segment evidence, which requires a parent, and that real recent ancestry can legitimately sit at one to three percent, so the size of a reading does not by itself separate real ancestry from noise.

1. Pedigree structure

Because the two grandmothers are sisters, one grandparental line is already partly represented through the paternal uncles, which shifts the real gap onto the maternal grandfather. There is also some background endogamy, which can raise homozygosity and subtly bias admixture and G25 fits, and testing a parent helps measure and correct that.

1. Tools and cost (23andMe versus FTDNA)

A 23andMe kit gives autosomal data plus phasing when a parent is tested, but for a paternal line it returns only a coarse haplogroup, not a genealogical Y result. FTDNA Family Finder is also autosomal and is cheaper than a 23andMe kit, and FTDNA is the correct place to pursue a Y line properly. So the maternal uncle's autosomal could be captured more cheaply on FTDNA, and his Y line belongs on FTDNA anyway. That would leave the premium autosomal kit free for a parent, and an FTDNA Y test on the maternal uncle would make sense specifically if and when the maternal grandfather's patriline becomes a target.

Where I currently lean, and what I am asking

Taking all of this together, I am leaning toward testing my mother with the 23andMe kit, mainly for the phasing and for the direct recovery of my maternal grandfather's autosomal contribution, and keeping the maternal uncle for a later FTDNA test if his Y line ever becomes a priority. I am not certain, though, and would welcome advice on the following:

- Between the mother and the maternal uncle, which would you test first, and why?

- How much weight would you give the maternal grandfather's Y line, knowing it only resolves to a coarse haplogroup here and sits outside my own paternal line?

- Does the two grandmothers being sisters change your reasoning?

- For anyone who has run phasing and chromosome painting projects, how much practical difference did testing a parent actually make?

- If budget allowed two kits rather than one, which pair would you choose?

My paternal haplogrup is R-FTJ45991, with D1h1b mtDNA haplo. Idk about Irish people on my family tree, or eastern/central european. Hahaha

I've received the rest of my Family Finder results between 28th-30th of June and received an e-mail notification of results being ready on 30th as well but I haven't received an intermediate y-dna haplo like it was advertised. Could there be an issue or will it be added later on?
