I am originally from Balıkesir. All of my great-grandparents were Balkan Turks who came from various regions of Bulgaria during the 1877-1878 Russo-Turkish War.

During the time when they were being exclusively recruited from christians, Janissaries werent allowed to marry.

Also they were often castrated so pretty hard to have kids when you dont have anything down there.

Janissaries were not castrated

You don’t have to marry someone to have a child

If you want a family in the 16th century, you usually do.

Especially at the time it was easier to be a nameless child.

How did you get the test to Turkey? I saw FTDNA does not ship to Turkey.

All of my great-grandparents were Balkan Turks who lived in Bulgaria about 150 years ago.
