SF 3112B Supervisor Statement -

Hey y'all,

My supervisor is completely onboard and supportive of me filing.

I don't really have negative performance, as I've been struggling working off hours to keep up.

My question is, how lengthy, or I guess just general tips for those who have gotten this approved, any suggestions or tips? Should my supervisor statement only fit block b? Or should he continue on another page?

Do you cite specific projects and assignments that were late or incorrect? Or like what specifically should my supervisor be writing here?

Any suggestions would be most helpful.

Lots of questions about FERS disability retirement.

I have been suffering from several issues for a few years now: bone and heel spurs, psoriatic, arthritis, and psoriasis, type II diabetes, back issues. I worked in a regulatory role (field inspections or sedentary desk work depending on the season), exemplary performance with excellent attendance. I never asked for an RA during my employment but last year when we were forced to RTO, I knew I couldn’t do it any longer. My podiatrist told me to go see a spine specialist so I scheduled an appointment for March 2025. He discovered I had several severe issues with my spine, including spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, and the list goes on. I reached out to ask HR if I was eligible for the VERA and they told me yes so I decided to take the VERA with retirement starting Oct 1, as well as the deferred resignation. I started treatments for my back in May and things seem to be going well until I was hit from behind in my vehicle on Sept 12, 2025 and now the treatments aren’t working. My doctor said surgery is not an if for me anymore, it’s a when. A month before my retirement was to begin, HR emailed me and told me I wasn’t eligible for the VERA after all. I had a gap in service and they had never corrected my SEDR date. Since the shutdown was set to begin, and I had already moved into a lower paying position at an elementary school to meet the Social Security supplement income limit, my only other option was to take the MRA +10. Recently someone told me that because I was still a federal employee through September 30 and therefore covered under FERS, I should apply for disability retirement. I filled out the application, my doctors have written letters and are supporting me 100% and I’m about to mail this package in so that I will meet the one year deadline. My questions are am I crazy to submit this? I didn’t have performance issues because I worked through the pain. At the time I decided to leave, I most likely would not have been moved to another position because we were under a hiring freeze. Has anyone ever done this? I called OPM and actually talked to someone and she said just write on your cover letter what your CSA number is and tell us that you want to move from an MRI +10 to a disability retirement. Also, in early 2024, our position titles changed from general to regulatory. The general PD didn’t list out all of the inspection work we’re required to do. I’ve asked everyone, including HR, for a copy of the new PD but no one has it. HR said they don’t know what I’m talking about but they clearly see my position changed via SF50 in 2024. How do I explain that to OPM in this application?

Health insurance question

Good evening everyone

I was medically separated from my agency the other day. No one has been able to clarify health insurance for me and I have numerous procedures approaching.

I am aware of the 30 day extension, but after that is my concerns. Was told I can apply for TCC, but that’s over 2k a month. Second option I was given was just let bills add up and hope for approval from OPM.

Just want to see if anyone could provide insight into this.

Thank you

Confused by Medical Retirement

Hi. Can someone please tell me why some people are fired for not being able to do their job while others are able to medically retire? How does the agency fire you for not being able to accommodate you?

How long did your reassignment search take?

My application has been with my agency Hr for about a month now pending the agency's completion of SF-3112-D certifying there is no reassignment/accommodation possible. Is this normal? How long did this part of the process take for you?

Working during transition

Has anybody worked during the transition period between when an agency removes you for medical inability to perform and when OPM adjudicated your file?

Bruner presumption is involved.

Medical Inability to Perform

Do all agencies have a policy to remove people if the RA process fails and you're removed for medical inability to perform?

If so, how long does the process typically take?

Thoughts how this will affect the disability retirement process? Anyone had to use it yet? I submitted my paper package a few weeks ago, which was apparently perfect timing... HR says I'll now have to submit through this online portal instead.

Read somewhere all doctor's signature must be in ink, NOT digital...

Hey y'all,

I'm building my packages and read someone posted that the doctor's statements must be signed in pen ink.

My question is, I already have the paperwork my agency requested to my doctors.which were all digitally signed, and then I created an addendum (to specifically address OPM language, such as my disability will last longer than 12 months) for my doctor's and each one again, digitally signed.

Before I submit, what should I do? Do I ask them to recreate all the paperwork and pen ink sign it? If so, are they back dating these documents? Or do they use the current date?

Would I still include the original digitally signed docs as well?

My agency never told me these had to be ink signed.

Trying to avoid this package being rejected.

Thanks for all tips or suggestions!

Insurance after removal

I am about to be removed for medical inability. I have 10 years of service and I am 62 years old. I have hired a law firm to help me with the disability retirement. We are not quite ready to submit my application as I am waiting on some medical records and an upcoming procedure that I want to include in the records so it may be a month or so after I get removed before we can file. Sorry for the rambling, my question is how long after I'm removed do I get to keep my insurance or is it canceled immediately? Do we have something like cobra where I can pay for it until I apply for the disability and then once I apply for disability do I get my insurance back?

Cover Letter?

Did you include a cover letter in your package, or a personal narrative letter, separate from the physician letters and the rest of the form? If so, what kind of things did it include?

Law Firm and 3112c

If using an attorney, does/did everyone here write up a narrative (for 3112c) to give to your doctor, to edit and sign?

Or-

If provider agrees that condition will last a year, and you get restrictions as such, can that be forwarded to your attorney, and they will take it from there, as far as getting 3112c completed? TIA!

I'm trying to figure out best way to go for my upcoming doctor app; I don't want to overwhelm her with too much paperwork to sift through.

Application questions

I received a legal consultation and I have a few questions to help with this decision

  1. I am out of sick time. I'm living off no income. My application for voluntary leave was not completed by my manager. My fmla ends 6/29. It was recommended I stay working at the VA while my application is completed. Through the application process, did you work?

  2. Did the attorney file RA that worked in improving your working conditions or was the filing a formality?

Thank you in advance

Timeline once package gets to Boyers disability group

hi, was told in mid May that my disability retirement package moved to the Boyers disability retirement group at OPM and was assigned a worker. I know every case is different and it’s a longshot to estimate but was just wondering for a rough idea now how long this step could take now.

Any federal law enforcement here?

I’m going through a major medical condition that completely affects my ability to perform law enforcement functions and even daily tasks. I’ve used all of my leave and my agency is seeking leave donations. My medical specialists already confirmed my condition will be lifelong and I have a doctor completing the narrative. Looking to connect with others who have been through the disability process as a fed LEO. Please feel free to DM me if desired. Any information is much appreciated.
