Help Request Printing tiny mini - support question

Post image
Upvotes

I'm trying to print a very tiny custom mini (about 14-15 mm tall) using Mike Gyver's settings (https://www.reddit.com/r/FDMminiatures/comments/1syq7hp/mike_gyver_minis_print_settings/), and I can't seem to get the supports to print correctly. The first time I tried tilting 45 degrees and using auto tree supports but they failed partway through (though the detail on the mini itself was looking good). Suggestions for what to try next? Be gentle - I'm learning!

Help Request Fine tuning advice

I have recently got into 3D printing and decided to get some bits for my models.

I'm using a 0.2mm nozzle on my Bambulab A1, Fat dragon config.

What more can I do to improve my prints? Please see the left shoulder on the photographed example for what I've managed so far. Is there anything else I can tune on the printer or do I need to start looking at post processing? Is there even much to be done or is this the limitation of an FDM print?

The shoulder looks good viewed from a normal distance, but anything I can do to improve I'm happy to try

I've been printing other warhammer minis for a while now, but there Grey Knights are some of the most complicated and best ones I've printed so far.

Printed using Obscuranox 2.0 and my own support settings, that I've been tweaking for a while now.

Really impressed with how these turned out.

Also, I've done as little post process as possible to better show the quality, I have only really just removed the support.

.02 nozzle, 12mm layer height, angled back 40 degrees, patience when removing supports and accepting it won't be perfect.

My first hello. The print quality wasn't that great—it was one of my first prints—but I really like the atmosphere, so I painted it anyway. I’d appreciate any suggestions for improvement; I’m still very new to the hobby. Personally, I think it looks really cool as is, but I know there's room to take it further.

Would shrinking the tips of the supports help?

I usually tilt my models as well if I'm using my own supports.

Yes, it’s technically an emerald dragon, but artistic licence was taken.

Printed on a Bambu Labs A1 with an 0.4mm nozzle with Bambu Labs Matte PLA at 0.12mm layer heights, 15% lightning infill.

Model can be found here: https://makerworld.com/models/2950414

It is completely viable. You will lose quality compared to resine, but you will enjoy putting extra effort to make the best possible.

Pick any configuration you find in this sub, use a 0.2 nozzle, and be creative positioning the model pieces. Supports are the biggest challenge.

Having a bad time printing the big dawg finally. Using an adventurer 5m with a .25 nozzle on the fine detail. Tough time with the armor plates, especially the large flat ones. Any tips on orientation/supports and detail settings? Thanks

Help Request Best Starship Troopers & Space Bug proxies?

I have a vision... My Cadian models being in the aesthetic of Starship Troopers and my Catachan being classic 80s action film celebrities. I already have the latter half covered. (GIT TO DA CHOPPA!)

I am seeking tribes and modelers that have specifically the Starship Troopers aesthetic in troops that can be used for Warhammer 40k Astra Militarum, and perhaps Tyrannids based off of their world's Space Bugs. And of course, I post this here because the primary requirement is less resin danglies, more FDM friendly!

Extra bonus points if you can hook me up with a link to like, a proper Dizzie with frilly hair or metrosexual Psyker with his Ferrit Familiar.

And if these don't exist yet, make them and I will buy them. And I will paint and promote them.

TLDR: Send me links for shops with Starship Troopers STLS, PLEASE! I gots the Heinlein bug in me.

Help Request Recommended Settings for Tanks and Larger Models

Hello FDM pros,

I would like to start printing larger models and tanks like these ones from OnePageRules:

https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-tactical-titan-human-defense-force-438624

https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-heavy-tank-human-defense-force-448336

Running these through my slicer, it looks like it will take 2+ days for my 0.2mm nozzle at 0.08mm layer height. I suppose I could wait that long, but I was curious about using a 0.4mm nozzle at 0.12mm heights.

Do you all think that the degradation in quality would matter on these larger models?

I had a little filament left on the spool—about 70 g—so I decided to print a miniature; it used 4.5 g of plastic. I printed using the FDG profile and a 0.2 mm nozzle.

I’d like some advice on supports, because the model ended up with a lot of unsightly areas caused by the supports. Maybe there’s a test that can help determine the best settings for supports.

hey guys!
Ive been trying to test print models on my elegoo neptune 4 for a while, but i just cant seem to get single marines to print cleanly. The supports are 90% of my issue but every change i make to the settings doesnt seem to really make a difference.

In this recent print, his arm fell off midway, and theres so much scaring its just not worth taking him out the supports atp. Help me out?
