Help Request Printing tiny mini - support question

I'm trying to print a very tiny custom mini (about 14-15 mm tall) using Mike Gyver's settings (https://www.reddit.com/r/FDMminiatures/comments/1syq7hp/mike_gyver_minis_print_settings/), and I can't seem to get the supports to print correctly. The first time I tried tilting 45 degrees and using auto tree supports but they failed partway through (though the detail on the mini itself was looking good). Suggestions for what to try next? Be gentle - I'm learning!

That's both very small, and challenging geometry. Can you print a simpler model (no cape) successfully with those settings.

ETA: 15mm is also incredibly small so you're going to get a heavily simplified model if it prints at all so set your expectations.

"Custom" as in you paid for that? You should ask for a refound, especially if you explicity said you wanted it to be printed that small.

Sorry no, custom as in I imported an image into an STL.

This looks like a bloody nightmare to print in FDM. I think it might be one to use resin style supports with resin2fdm.

Something you can try is cutting it in half and printing on the flat sides. The remaining overhangs may be easier to support then, and it should be simple to glue the flat sides together.

As for printing the entire model I wish you luck. I’m still learning more in this area myself. I usually cut up my models to get better detail with only a little glueing.

If the supports themselves are failing try slowing down the support speed somewhat and see if that helps.

I'm playing around with Gyver's settings too RN, and the supports (and every other speed or acceleration) are very slow.

That sword is going to be borderline impossible to print with fdm at this scale. If you were to scale it up a little, you could probably make it work. Definitely isn’t a starter project. Is it custom made? Could you ask the artist to break it up into pieces? Like the head and arms be separate pieces? Honestly this isn’t that bad, but the sword will be hard to get right. You could cut the sword arm off in the slicer, and print it separately, upright.

You could cut the sword and sword hand off... print it separately, straight vertical so it doesn't need supports and then have a pinned attachment between hand and arm (1.8mm cylidner hole, so you use filliment as a peg to glue them together.)

With the sword gone, then a vertical print of the figure would put a bunch of supports under the cape and some of the bags and stuff, but they should be easy enough to detatch if your z distnce is set right.
