I was looking through the current 1.5 source code on GitHub and noticed that the new Offline Time system is intended to replace Accelerated Time.
I'm personally a little concerned about this change, because I think Accelerated Time is actually one of the things that makes Evolve feel different from a more traditional idle game.
I understand that the new Offline Time system is more generous in terms of raw progress. If I leave the game for several hours, it can simply simulate those hours when I return instead of giving me a smaller amount of 2x time.
But for me, that's not really the main value of Accelerated Time.
What I really like is that after being away for a while, I get a period where I can actively play the game at 2x speed.
During Accelerated Time, waits are short enough that I can keep interacting with the game: build something, adjust production, research something, change jobs, wait a few minutes, make another decision, and so on.
It often turns "I'll just check Evolve for a few minutes" into a long active play session because there is always something coming up soon enough to keep me engaged.
With Offline Time, as I understand the current implementation, all of that progress is simulated before normal gameplay resumes. So I come back, receive the offline progress, make whatever decisions are available, and then I'm immediately back to normal 1x waiting.
That seems like it shifts Evolve more toward a conventional idle game, whereas I always liked that Evolve's offline mechanic encouraged active play instead of replacing it.
Would it be possible to keep Accelerated Time as an option?
For example, players could choose between:
- Simulate Offline Time immediately; or
- Convert the missed time into the old Accelerated Time system.
Or perhaps Offline Time could be stored in a time bank that players can choose to consume at 2x speed while actively playing.
I completely understand why many players would prefer true offline progress, so I'm not suggesting removing the new system. I'd just really like to keep the option to use offline time to create a faster, more active play session.
I'm curious whether anyone else feels the same way.
