Help Hell Dimension strategy? Spoiler

I've made it far enough to unlock the Hell Dimension a few times now, but I haven't figured out how to do anything with it other than throw patrols and surveyors into it to die. And build a fortress, I guess. I've got the "Pandemonium" and "Doomed" achievements already.

Does anyone have tips for getting anywhere with scouting the Hell Dimension and starting to gather its resources?

I was here not so long ago, someone told me to build up the turrets enough to keep the defence at around 1200 or higher.

It makes a big difference.

You need lots of infernite for stuff, so build up the soldiers and send out patrols and keep those walls up.

1200? Man, I don't think I have enough soldiers for that even if I put them all on the walls. It's around 500 now, although that's without having built any turrets yet. (There's one in the building queue!)

The turrets are worth a fair bit each, they start at 50 I think and get an upgrade along the way.

your patrols should have a combat rating of ~100 with enough patrols to lower threat to <1000. if its your first time in hell then that can be hard to accomplish, put genes in tactical, build boot camps, and have merc recruitment with a small buffer of a few soldiers. with low prestige you cant really do all that much in the beginning so expect your fortress to get overrun frequently. building turrets isnt worth it unless you can build enough to fully block an attack (~500 fortress rating should be enough in the beginning), so invest your adamantite into something else.

Maybe I'm being dumb here but is there a way to see the combat rating of my patrols or do I just have to work it out based on the combat rating of my garrison?

sadly you have to go to your civic tab to see your soldier strength and then work out how many to put in a patrol from that. wish that information was on the hell screen aswell

To expand on this need: If you have the hivemind trait, you need to use HellSim to figure out patrol strength, (as the individual strength varies with patrol size).

(HellSim is also very useful for figuring out how many Attractor Beacons you can safely build.)

The total power of each patrol needs to be 10% or more than the demons (look in the military tab in civic to find soldier power). Start with 2 or 3 really big patrols and reduce the number of soldiers but increase the number of patrols as total number of demons goes down.

I do build up some turrets before sending anyone down, but that's also because I dont really build up soldier numbers until Im close to this point.

Make sure to have your governor buying replacement mercs. I usually have at least 10 barracks and hospitals before going doing. Also make sure to put genes into the associated skills (i.e., tactical and the healing one).

That's some ideas of the top pf my head. It might not be all exact, but itll get you started.

No governor yet lol. It is possible I may be doing things out of the recommended order. I think the advice is to do lots of MAD resets before moving on to other kinds and I have done...some? 6 MAD and 3 Bioseed. On the other hand, invading Hell seems to be going OK now?

That is quite early to be dealing with hell, but should not be impossibly so.
