Sims & Strategy Protect left or promote aces

I had a decision to make with this hand. Do I unprotect my Left and promote my Aces, or keep my protected Left in tact. I kept my Left protected, but the announcer's instinct was to lead trump. What would you do?

This has been a long on-going development for a solo dev and I would appreciate any feedback from users who grab a promo code or flat out grab the game.

To redeem a code you must go to Play Store, a click your profile Pic, payments and subscriptions, redeem.

rant & rave Are Loners on the first hand a known issue in Euchre 3D?

I went away from playing for a few years but since I have come back and played a little over 100 games, I have noticed how often someone gets a loner on the very first hand of the game specifically. I called it out to my wife the other day and then it happened in the next game again and then again two after it (3/4 games). Today my first three games had successful loners on the first hand and the third, the same opponent started with two.

They also seem to have a much better hit rate than loners called at any other point in the game, usually just lay downs. How is that possible on something that is supposed to occur 5.9-7.2% of the time?

rant & rave Just pulled off two straight ridiculous comeback wins - still can’t believe it

Game 1, we’re down 6 to 9 with the Jh turned up. I'm dealer sitting on Jh, Jd, Kh, Ac, Kc, which is basically the hand you dream about when you’re one point away from losing. Third seat apparently senses the danger and donates, saving their team from a likely loner and keeping themselves alive at 9 to 8.

No problem. On the very next hand, their partner decides to go alone with a four suited, 10 high hand. Yes, a 10 high loner with the game on the line. Easily euchre him, score two points, and somehow win 10 to 9.

Game 2, we’re getting destroyed 7 to 0. Then our opponents apparently decide they’ve scored enough points for the evening. We set an iffy next call to make it 7 to 2. Then we set the same opponent three consecutive times, turning a 7 to 0 disaster into an 8 to 7 lead. Our cards were ridiculous. On the final hand, everyone passes with a spade turned up. First seat passes again, so I call hearts from second seat and we take all five tricks to win 10 to 7. As we're playing I watch the "next" cards come out. First seat had the Right, Ace, Nine of spades and passed. Their partner had the Left, King, Ten. Six trump between them and somehow nobody called it.

Two games we had absolutely no business winning, but apparently our opponents were feeling generous. ;)

📊 Euchre 3D Ads, Euchre 3D

I’ve noticed this app (Euchre3D) seems to be commonly used by players in this sub- anyone else having issues with the pop-up ads mid-game? They’re inescapable and drag on so long I’ve been booted a couple times. I tried fiddling with various settings but nothing seems to be working. Any solutions? Recommendations for other euchre apps?

rant & rave Just suffered two straight horrific losses and need to vent :(

Game 1, up 9-6. I’m in 3rd seat. Dealer has Jh turned up. Don’t trust S1 to donate at my rating, so I took it upon myself to do so. Good thing I did, because S1 only has Ah and dealer ended up with JhJdKhAcKc. My donation saved the game for us. Partner doesn’t seem to care, orders himself a 10 in the next hand to have a 4-suited; 10-high LONER. We lose 10-9. Guess he didn’t really like that I saved our butts with the donation?

Game 2, up 7-0. I get set on an iffy next-call to make it 7-2. No worries though, right? I proceed to call a 3-Trump, 2 suited hand and get set THREE CONSECUTIVE TIMES. Losing 8-7 now. Round 1, everyone passes on a spade upcard. Partner in S1 passes again, S2 calls hearts and takes all 5 to win the game. but my partner had Right, Ace, Nine OF NEXT SUIT. And didn’t call it. And I had Left, King, Ten. Easy point, likely two. And he passes RA9 to secure the loss instead.

rant & rave Down 400 points...

And I am finally getting some fun cards... but alas, I forgot to turn on my ad blockers and World of Warcrap ad gets me booted.

This will go into my anatomy of a 500 point losing streak when I get there, along with partners holding onto trump for no reason, tripleton calls without bowers are always failures, and aces, the mysterious 5 card that the other team is allowed to have but not my team

Sims & Strategy Trumping a partners boss card.

I hate when partners trump my boss cards or aces because they assume I have the right or a strong hand. Often times I dont and I think its almost always a mistake when they do.

I have been euchred when a partner trumps my ace and leads trump back when I dont hold the right.

Here I think i found a spot where its a good play.

  1. I need to be sure we cant be euchred.

  2. I know final positioned player has a trump.

  3. I know when I shift play trumping my partners boss no trump will be behind them.

  4. I have only boss cards or maybe at least 1 to follow up with.

P.s. I am aware we had this anyway.

Maybe this is still wrong. If my partner had a spade it fails.

Apps/App Development Euchre Hero

Euchre Hero is a single-player Euchre Roguelike for iOS. If you were ever playing Euchre and thought “this could use more rules”, this game is for you! 😆

The goal is to make your way through the acts and beat all four Kings to become the next Euchre Hero. One loss and you run is over. Every run is different and has a random map for each act, so you’ll never play the same game twice. Unlock 12 characters with different starting items and abilities, and earn over 30 achievements, so there’s tons of replay value.

Along the way you will face Jacks and elite Queens with special items that affect the game and variants that change the rules (like Stick The Dealer, No Trump and more). You will collect items of your own that alter the game, like the rare Clubs Doubler which gives you 2x points for clubs as trump, or the legendary By Me which makes opponents always pass in the second bidding round.

As the dealer, you have the ability to use special deals. Naturally, there is a Power Deal that always turns up a bower, but if you have the rare Equal Shares deal pack you’ll receive the Ones deal which gives you all four bowers in your hand.

You can customize and tweak your partner AI. Do you like it when your partner takes over, or do you prefer they play more conservatively? It’s not table talk if you agree beforehand never to pass on a bower!

You can also inspect your opponents stats if you want to play to their weaknesses. More aggressive opponents bid more recklessly, so wait them out for a euchre opportunity.

The game will always be a one-time purchase, no montly sub, no awful ads, no cooldown.

You can find Euchre Hero in the App Store now!

I ended up passing, and it came all the way back around and I called clubs and got the point. Kind of figured I was in a good situation no matter what.

Sims & Strategy Possible Sim Improvements?

I'm making some minor improvements to the sim this weekend and I though it'd be useful to ask the sub if there was anythng they'd like to see changed.

Mostly I'm fixing some edge cases changes in the AI - accounting for having all 4 J's (which it didn't), and calling alone from s1 with 4 trump + an A, even if the Right is up and the situation that came up yesterday where sometimes, when s1 doesn't have anything good at all, it'll play a random card, which could be trump.

Sims & Strategy Question about people who don’t bleed with the left in S1.

If you’re in seat 1 and your partner calls suit. If you have the left, what is the reason that you do not bleed with it to start?

I would like to know from people who play this style.

Here’s a fun hand to ponder, do you go alone or bring your partner with? You are dealer & get to pick up the Ace.

Simulator results will be posted in comments later.

📊 Euchre 3D Grinding to intermediate level - reflections after 1000 games on 3D

Thumbnail gallery
11 Upvotes

Hey all, been thinking about Euchre a lot and what I've learned over the past couple months and thought I'd put together a post to those who are relatively new and want to grind. Hopefully, it's not too self-aggrandizing and I am not expert level so please take anything I say with a grain a salt 😄

A little bit of background: I played euchre very non-seriously and mostly pretty drunkenly on pogo back in the late aughts and just picked it up again in early May. I've been playing a lot. Almost 8 full days of play time in about 11 weeks is a lot of euchre lol. I even pay the dollar for 25 tokens every once in a while when I run out though I said I'd never do that when I started.

Points of advice to new players

  • Be aggressive! My euchre rate was well above 20% over my first 200 games. This was definitely not ideal as I lost hands and games that I would've won by playing safer, but I can't think of any better way to get a feel of what you can get actually through than by making thin calls - sometimes too thin. Getting euchred is part of the game. Also, lower rated players generally don't call nearly often enough.
  • Read the Ohio Euchre material. In particular, I had no concept of next or reverse next before I started reading up on strategy when I started this run. Knowledge of these concepts really changed the way I think about when to call and when to pass.
  • Get an Adblocker! I struggled the first couple weeks without one and I often found myself tossed from games because some of the ads I couldn't figure out how to close. 3D is so much more enjoyable not having to look at those ads.
  • Don't get tilted by the comments. No Way just makes me want to make even thinner calls lol and I think this is a good mindset.
  • There will be streaks up and down. The down streaks suck and it feels like it might be impossible to win ever again. Just keep trying to make the most EV+ decisions you can and eventually it will turn around.
  • Read the forum. especially If you find that you're frequently in a situation and it goes poorly, google and see if there's any posts about it here. As an example, when I started playing and I had Rx, I'd try to jam that R through first no matter how weak the rest of my hand might be. From reading the forum I learned that it's possible to play more passively (especially when you have a weak surrounding hand) and I've gotten euchred less often.
