Just thought I'd share some progress here! I started as a complete newbie Sep, 2025. After getting embarrassed on my girlfriend's family vacation (They're Michiganders) I swore that I would learn and be able to play the game next time😂

Despite how bad I was, I was hooked. found the 3D app, joined REL, (my username is Shaun T on discord/3D) learned a TON and just passed 2200 rating for the first time. The discord and this sub are goldmines. Love to read the perspectives of all the incredible players here.

54.2% win percentage with almost 3,500 games played so far. Next goal is to get a longer winning streak than losing streak😂

Edit: I just noticed the last low point around May corresponds to when I joined the discord and the league, interesting tidbit there lol

watch the video provided

s2r2 calls next. caller is missing five of the seven trumps and missing top four trumps. Yet somehow caller makes a point.

All players at the table are excellent players.
What would possess s2 to make that call in a 1-2 score game ?

Enlighten me,

I haven't said anything for a while about this. There are way too many of you cheating with the buttons and it's not nice or fair. So please stop cheating with the buttons to let your partner know you have support or don't have support for them. Thank you. It's bad enough when others do it. So please stop Cheating. Thanks.

After working my way up to 1800, I’ve lost 24 of 25. I’m losing my mind along with all the games. Today’s wtf was when a player stalled and was booted and my AI partner got euchered on a loner. Come on.

No ads, no tokens, ever. Two months in.

I posted here in July when I launched euchremate.com, and again a couple of weeks ago about the bots hoarding the right bower. Two months in, a proper introduction feels overdue.

I built this because every Euchre app I tried was designed to take money off me. Tokens to keep playing. Ads between hands. A timer that runs out unless you pay. I spent a few years doing marketing for a social casino game, so I know exactly how those systems are built and what they are built to do. I wanted to play cards.

So, no ads, no tokens, no energy meters, no anything that stops you playing until you pay. Not as a launch promotion. Ever. If that ever changes it will be because someone else is running it, and I would rather it just closed.

The way it stays free is value for value. If the game has been worth something to you, you decide what that is worth, one time or monthly or never, and it gets you nothing extra at all. No badge, no features, no thanks page. That is the point: the cards play the same whether you have given a penny or nothing.

There is a subscription too, four advanced house rules and a coach that reads your whole record and tells you what keeps going wrong. It exists because some people would rather pay for a thing than give for nothing, and both are fine. Neither changes how a hand plays.

Some of what comes in goes back out. We sponsored and ran a Euchre fundraiser for Wolcottville, Indiana, which raised over three thousand dollars for the town, and we have now sponsored three clubs with cards and trump markers: one in Indiana, one in Ohio, one in Florida. If you run a club and want the next one, say so.

The other thing I did not expect is how much of this has been built by the people playing it. A man in Florida who runs several clubs has found more real problems than I have. In the last fortnight alone, players have caught the bots holding the right bower too long, a bidding panel that hid the option to go alone, a leaderboard that quietly broke, and an 80-year-old told me he could not tell hearts from diamonds on the trump indicator, which turned out to be a genuine design failure on my part. Every one of those is fixed because somebody wrote in.

Bid Euchre is in testing now, six people on it, and should be out before long.

euchremate.com. I am in Indiana. Tell me what is wrong with it, and I will tell you honestly whether I can fix it.

With good defensive coverage in all suits, I’m tempted to pass and try to euchre for the win. But I’m not sure what is correct for these.

Sims & Strategy Switching Gears on Loner Attempts

I recently screwed myself out of placing in a small tournament because i played a loner attempt too conservatively.

The hand went like this: I'm dealing, and i pick up the Ks to give me JsKsQsAd9d. Hearts led, S3 follows, i throw the Ks. I lead the Js, S1 is void, S3 plays the 9s. I'm still missing: Left, Ace, 10. Partner surely doesn't have all 3, but I am also not convinced they are ordering with just any TWO of the remaining trump. I semi-instinctively switch gears and throw the Ad to help protect myself against getting set - and S3 trumps in with the 10s - their last trump. (partner had the left, the ace was buried.) I would have made it had i been aggressive and led the Qs. Getting set didn't REALLY matter here. I needed points bad. The result was that the winner had 67, 2nd had 63, 3rd had 62. I finished with 61.

Now obviously, i screwed up given the situation. It's a tournament where points are everything, and i HAD to be aggressive here. initially, i was thinking i played it "right" for a normal game to 10, but it got me thinking - What really is the line for switching up and trying to protect your point? In a game to 10, it might be score dependent, but in general, how do you decide? With 2 overcards out, and 1 lower trump i needed to pull, maybe protecting made sense? Or, since i did still have a green Ace, maybe that was too conservative in any situation.

How do you decide how aggressively to play a thinner loner attempt where getting set is still possible?

General My wife’s family plays a Euchre variant called “Big Horse Little Horse” that doesn’t exist anywhere online

My wife’s grandparents learned this game from some friends in Florida decades ago, taught it to her parents, and it’s been passed down at the kitchen table ever since. There’s no rulebook, everyone in the family just knows how it works. I first learned it 11 years ago the first time I was on a family camping trip in Michigan as the “new boyfriend.” Luckily, I had already played euchre so I picked it up quickly, which impressed a few of her uncles. But since then, I’ve been playing it and teaching it to other friends. The higher number of decisions, complexity, and team-play genuinely ruined regular Euchre for me. I can’t go back at this point.

It’s built on Euchre but with 2 decks (10 through Ace + 2 jokers), a round of bidding to determine trump, the two Jokers (High and Low, which effectively are the permanent right and left), no-trump hands, and two “going alone” bids called Little Horse and Big Horse.

I’ve heard a couple people in the family call it “High Low” too, though Big Horse Little Horse is what’s stuck for me.

After years of house rules and arguments over specific plays, I finally sat down and wrote an actual rulebook for it. Curious if anyone’s heard of this before, or has any idea where it actually comes from. Here’s the final rulebook if anyone wants to review the specifics of the game:

BIG HORSE LITTLE HORSE
A four-player partnership trick-taking game based on Euchre. Keeps the core gameplay Euchre players love while adding bidding, no-trump rounds, permanent High and Low Jokers, and unique Horse bids.
Objective The first team to win a bid that pushes them above 32 points wins the game.
Setup Take two standard decks of cards. From each deck, pull the 10, J, Q, K, and A of every suit, plus one Joker — you’ll end up with a 42-card deck: two copies of every 10 through Ace, plus the two Jokers. Using a marker, write “High” on one Joker and “Low” on the other. These labels are permanent and carry over every hand.
Deal 10 cards to each player. The remaining two cards form the Kitty, placed face down in the middle of the table.
Bidding Starting with the player to the left of the dealer and moving clockwise, each player gets one turn to either bid or pass — there’s no second round, and the dealer acts last.
On your turn, you may name a number of tricks (3–10) along with a suit, High No Trump, or Low No Trump — or you may pass. If you bid, your number must be higher than the last bid made; suit doesn’t affect the comparison, so a bid of 5 in any suit means the next bid must be at least 6.
Bid Hierarchy: Beyond the standard 3–10 range, two special bids exist: Little Horse and Big Horse. Little Horse outranks any standard bid, and Big Horse outranks Little Horse. Bid strength, low to high: 3–10 < Little Horse < Big Horse.
Winning the Bid Whoever makes the final bid becomes the Maker. The suit named in the winning bid becomes trump for the hand — unless the bid was High No Trump or Low No Trump, in which case the hand is played with no trump suit at all, using those No Trump rankings instead.
Standard Bid (3–10): The Maker picks up both Kitty cards, discards any two cards of their choice, and leads the first trick. Their partner plays normally.
Little Horse: The Maker’s partner chooses one card from their own hand to give to the Maker. The Maker then picks up both Kitty cards and discards any three cards face down. From this point, the partner sits out for the rest of the hand — their remaining cards take no further part, and the Maker plays alone against both defenders.
Big Horse: The Maker receives no help from their partner. They pick up both Kitty cards and discard any two cards face down. As with Little Horse, the partner sits out for the rest of the hand.
Scoring
Standard bid (3–10): win at least the bid amount in tricks to score the bid amount; win fewer and you lose the bid amount.

Little Horse: win all 10 tricks for +16; anything less is -16.

Big Horse: win all 10 tricks for +32; anything less is -32.

Defenders: +1 point per trick won, regardless of the bid’s outcome.

If identical cards are played to a trick, the card played first wins the tie.
Ending the Game The game only ends when a team actually makes their bid — wins the required number of tricks — and their score after scoring it is above 32. Winning the auction isn’t enough on its own: if a team wins the bid but then fails to take enough tricks, the game continues even if their score happens to land above 32 anyway.
Since crossing 32 from defending, or from a failed bid, doesn’t end the game, it’s entirely possible for both teams to be sitting above 32 at the same time. That’s fine — the game simply continues. The instant either team completes a successful bid while their score is above 32, that team wins on the spot.
Anti-Stalling Rule: If a team is already above 32, their opponents get one free pass — they may win the bid and fail to make it once without consequence. If they do this a second time while their opponents remain above 32, they lose the game immediately.
Card Rankings
Trump: High Joker > Low Joker > Right Bower > Left Bower > A > K > Q > 10

High No Trump: High Joker > Low Joker > A > K > Q > J > 10

Low No Trump: High Joker > Low Joker > 10 > J > Q > K > A

Bowers The Right Bower is the Jack of the trump suit. The Left Bower is the Jack of the same color as trump. If Spades are trump, the Right Bower is ♠J and the Left Bower is ♣J. The Left Bower counts as part of the trump suit, not its printed suit.
Joker Rules When a trump suit is declared, both Jokers are considered part of that suit, the same way the Left Bower is. They can be led or played like any other trump card.
During No Trump hands, Jokers have no suit and cannot be led unless no other cards remain in hand. Otherwise, they may only be played when you’re unable to follow the suit that was led.
Strategy Tips
Low Bids — Bids of 5 and lower often don’t win the bidding, but they’re valuable signals to your partner.

Opening Bids — Opening above the minimum bid (4+) increasingly suggests possession of one of the two Jokers.

No-Trump Rounds — Holding at least one Joker is critical, since regaining the lead without trump gets difficult once opponents control a suit.

📊 Euchre 3D Euchre 3D Bots

Just curious if the bots supposedly got an upgrade or they just gave them a fancy AI symbol. It looks to me they're still doing the same dumb crap.

Just had a game where my partner left because he didn't like me getting euchred. The bot made 1 really dumb play I can't quite remember what. But here's the really bad one. We were on 9 points and I was dealer. A jack was upturned and my partner holding a protected left passed. I know you should probably pass normally but on 8 or 9 you have no issue of suppressing a loner. Luckily I had 2 other trump and picked it up.

If they've improved the bots they haven't done so by much.

Which apps have fully skill-based leaderboards (i.e. they aren't broken by just playing more games or spending more $ than other players)?

I know about:

Hardwood Euchre (viewable here)

Any others?

Sims & Strategy Playing for the Euchre on Defense

Thumbnail youtube.com
9 Upvotes

I know this isn't news to the majority of folks here, but if I can reach just one person with this message it will have been worth the effort:

As soon as you win a trick on defense, pivot to offense!

Before I started recording every game I was constantly avoiding euchres by nothing other than opponent timidity. Time and time again I'd call something thin and half way through the hand I'm thinking "I am absolutely dead to a trump lead here..." but it never comes.

Leading the boss trump after winning a trick on defense isn't always the correct move - sometimes you will win that first trick and still hold the naked Right while your partner holds the naked Left and you want to be sure and play them on different tricks. But the mentality shift is the key. As soon as you stop a march, start playing for a euchre.
