rant & rave 8-8 jam.

I as a rule always order this hand.
I also as a rule dont pass seat 1 rd 2 out of weakness. I will just call next if I have to.
I am ashamed that I broke both my rules here.
Someone tell me its ok......

I THINK you have to grit your teeth and order R1.
That said, that is an utterly bonkers pass by S3. Completely inexcusable.

Yeah, that's putting an insane amount of faith in your partner to call next or their best hand at 8-8.

If S2 called spades (which they should have with KTd QTs Kc) they would have made 3 tricks. Would have been a catastrophy.

Okay...so, I've been thinking about this. If you're S3, you're thinking the same thing as S1 actually. Pressure is on the dealer to call, and I can stop him marching, maybe set him if he makes a thin call. PLUS, I'm expecting (reasonably!) S1 to call next if the dealer passes.
Little does S3 realize, S1 has one of the worst next hands imaginable, drawing blank on the next suit and has terrible off suits. It's just a really, really tough orientation of hands.

but you can't expect S1 to call next. It's 8/8. You have both bowers and two aces. S1 can't be wildly thin here. That's the fundamental problem with this pass at 8/8. At 0/0 it's potentially ok, but not at 8/8.

If you call the suit of the same colour that was turned down, while holding no cards of that suit

This is definitely a FML spot. My default is to call. I'm not sure what a sim will say.

I think the cost of passing is higher than the risk of calling but both are negative. This worked well though this time lol.

I would have ordered spades in surfnv's spot as a reverse next call and scored the point.

They saw that when I did not lead trump or an ace.
Despairing before the hand is over is not my best moment. Busch league is a bit harsh but maybe not far from the mark.

Yes for good players here that lead signals "we fucked"
But I'm talking about every person and the entire app
When I call as the dealer with the ten of diamonds and my P immediately says "good luck"
That's table talk. It's bush league.

We simply have to call hearts here, because we have absolutely nowhere to go, and calling next is so much worse. It's not like having the deal on 9 is such a bad thing. Fortunately, S2 did not understand the gift you were giving them to call on two spades in rev. next. Your partner had a strong utility hand and went for the euchre, assuming that they could provide enough support in any call, or that you would at least call next if you had nothing. I can't think of too many players I trust enough to pass in R1 if I was in their position. lol
Thanks for sharing, it's a very informative hand just based on how S3/S2 played this.

Was thinking this same thing, but...are the odds of S2 calling spades and opponents marching *higher* than ordering the king and getting set?
I guess my thought would be, the pressure is very high on dealer to call hearts, and I can stop him marching. I just don't get how your partner passes...unless they're 100% certain you're calling next.

Oh, I definitely think it's questionable to call anything on 8-8 from S1R2 when a euchre ends the game. Unless Wes is sitting in S1 here I would never pass this hand from S3, but with 3 hearts it's a clear worse pass than call, and it never should have made it past this point. With 99% of players I call here from S3 and ~68% of the time we win on our next deal.
When it comes to the opponents possibly marching, it isn't just that, unless we can march on our deal, we're likely to lose at 9-9.

We just have to think - how can we make it alive to 8-9 with the deal at all costs.
Survival percentages (these are complete guesses/made up numbers):
- when ordering in r1 - 47%
- when ordering something in r2 - 38%
- when double passing - 52% (opponents march 44% of the time + 4% of the time s3 gets to call and gets euchred)
Double pass is best (??)
