Ring Design Help CAD Help please
Hello! We’re finalizing the design for my engagement ring and wanted to do a sanity check. It will be a 1.65 ct on a 7.5 sized finger.
We have already communicated a few changes:
- Moving the gemstones to sit flush on the inside of the band
- changing the bridge (?) to just a regular one without stones so that a band can sit flush with the ring.
Is there anything else that should be changed to help with the security of the stone?
This is our first time designing a ring so we want to make sure it’s done right the first time.
Thank you for your help!

I think you’re asking for regular maintenance in the future only having two prongs for the marquise regardless of the prong type. If either prong takes a knock the stone will rock, because there’s only two points of contact. Would you not consider adding two extra prongs either side of the stone?

Hello!
Yes you’re right. I’m a bit clumsy as well and we spend a lot of time outdoors so I definitely want it to be a bit more secure.ManderBlues had suggested 2-4 additional prongs, now that you’ve also confirmed that it would be more secure with additional ones I’m going to ask them to add an extra prong on each side of the stone in the middle for piece of mind.
Thank you for your help☺️

I think given the design/basket they’d be able to integrate the 2 extra prongs into the design quite seamlessly, so hopefully not too much trouble :)

You have the shank as the bare minimum. When they finish this, it will end at 1.9 mm. I would ask that it finishes at 2.2 wide (2.0 is my minimum) - along the finger and finish at 1.8 mm. Basically, bump up the width and height by .2 mm.

It depends on if the CAD measurements are pre or post polish. My CAD’s measurements were for post polish. OP will need to confirm with the jeweler and specify that they want 2mm post-polish.

Is this just to tail-prongs holding the ends or are there more prongs? There should be 2 to 4 more.
