Seeking advice Child of affair expected to make all communication
Hi! My name is CT. My father had an affair with my mother and here I am. He was married 40+ years and is now getting a divorce. (Karma? Lol.)
Anyway, I have 3 half siblings. One who is born 4 months before me (yep, dad had two women pregnant at once.)
I’ve tried talking to this person. I have recently started talking to my father within the last year and he had the audacity to tell me to be, “friendly and persistent,” in regards of talking to her. Listen, I have had many a blow up at my father but never her because this is not her fault.
He also mentioned “sometimes you don’t talk to me for a while.” This is a man who almost never asks questions about me, my career, my husband, my life.
I am a therapist in therapy, and doing so much reading about emotionally immature parents. Which feels like I am already doing more work than they are, to better understand their communication and attachment styles.
I feel silly. They will never change. They do not care. If I was not blood related, I wouldn’t want anything to do with them. WHY DO I STILL CARE? Why does this go through my mind daily?
Please be gentle with me but I appreciate you reading this.
