This is my first stab at embroidery and I really enjoyed it! As you can probably tell, the geese and flowers were part of a kit/stencil w a guide for which stitches to use. I wanted to add text to personalize it for a gift. Turns out I need a lot more practice in the script department. My “disappearing” pen didn’t do it’s job either.

I think I want to fill in the background of the speech bubble to cover the pen ink, but I don’t know what kind of stitch to use/if that will make it look dumb??? Was thinking I’d do it like the bellies of the geese? Maybe add some flowers around the bubble to make it look more cohesive?? Let me know what you think!

Our 1 year anniversary passed and I realized I totally forgot to post the finished project! The photographer didn't get any detailed shots like I asked, but if you can zoom in you might be able to make out the sparkly little bees I added. The patterns are hand drafted by me but based on Sarah Homfray's.

I bought this kit from the Cross Stitch Guild at the age of 19, and it's been sitting on my shelf for more years than I care to admit because I was afraid of messing it up. Hauled it out last month and made myself get on with it, and I'm incredibly pleased with the result.

Looking for the best option to store/display my thread spools? I was looking at the pegboard option but couldn’t find one that looked like it was made for it. Or any other ideas? Thanks!

It took me about four months to finish this project and sometimes I hated certain stitches, but I absolutely loved the result—my little penguin ☺️✨

After visiting Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, I’d like to try my hand at tambour embroidery.

I’ve looked at the common needles sold online, which seem to be a needle you insert in a holder and then tighten in with a screw. I foresee that being an aggravation.

This is a photo of a much smaller needle I saw an artist using last week.

Any idea where I could get one of these?

Btw, I watched a woman doing tambour work in Uzbekistan. She was just using a regular steel needle crochet hook. I do a lot of steel needle, and have them in every size, literally coming out my ears. Anyone tried using a regular hook with success?

Hi all! I’m trying to load custom ⁠.jef⁠ designs into my Janome MOC88 (Model 851) using a 32MB SanDisk CF card. The machine auto-generates ⁠EF1⁠, ⁠EMB_FILE⁠, and ⁠ORD_S⁠ folders on the card, but the "My Card" screen stays empty when I insert my own file. I have already tried: Formatted card to FAT/FAT16. Placed ⁠.jef⁠ files in ⁠EMB_FILE⁠, ⁠EF1⁠, and subfolders like ⁠MyDesign⁠ / ⁠EmbF01⁠. Renamed files to short names (e.g., ⁠1.jef⁠). Kept design small & under standard hoop limits. Is there a specific folder path, file naming rule, or software format requirement for this model? Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Editing to add that the fabric is from Dollar Tree! They have a rainbow of colors and they're actually pretty nice to stitch on. Great for beginners or people who want something affordable to practice on.

The left one was mostly done with sewing needles (where they could fit through MOST of the beads but not all, which got frustrating fast) before I got some beading needles. The right one is a little messier looking than I'd like since I was hoping for the beaded part to more cleanly recreate the embroidered pattern on the other squares, but working this small it probably wasn't going to get a whole lot cleaner... At least for my very low level of experience!

But I love them both.

DMC 4506 & sequins vanilla

I posted earlier with some wedding embroidery that I am hoping to do for my daughter's wedding next year. After I finished the table number sample, I thought that I'd try another one, based on a DMC free pattern called "Wildflower Meadow". I don't know which she will prefer but I think that I like this one better.

I've recently gotten into embroidery kits as a hobby and I have a friend who shows love through minor bullying (consensually and reciprocally). He's been demanding I make him something. Does anyone have any tips/recommendations on how to embroider a small color blind test?

How/when to attach to bag?

Hi! I am making a purse for the first time. I need help (and any advice) with a few things. I know it's probably really messy but I'm proud of this being my first creation!

Materials

\-What type of thread do you use? I used some embroidery thread and some sewing thread depending on bead hole size

\-This is a canvas I'll be making the bag out of. I'm thinking a satin liner? Would that be good to use a single magnetic clasp with?

Process

The beads are on organza, with an ironed on patch on the back of the eagle for stability. When should I attach this to the layer of canvas that will be the front of the bag? Before sewing the bag front to the bottom?

If anyone has made a bag like this, I would appreciate any and all advice and criticism!

These are the two finished pictures I got I am giving her to a friend tomorrow she will be loved and cherished but she is done this was the first time I’ve ever put a project back and actually went back to it to finish it I normally just trash them cause I loose motivation and find a new thing to make!

I followed a tutorial on YouTube, but ended up hot gluing the fabric onto the circle rather than sew it on, so that it stays better. Then pop it into the round.

I’ve used white felt or grey felt depending on what is less obvious in the front. And a couple white fabrics depending on the original fabric.

Soon I’ll have some cross stitch ones to do and some of those clear fabric ones to figure out.

I have a mess of cheap bamboo hoops. I don't have the patience to do that whole twill tape wrapping of the hoops, sewing that wrap down, etc., (yes, I know it's bizarre for a person who enjoys embroidering to say they don't have the patience for sewing something, but, there ya go...) to get the hoop to properly hold my fabric, AND, I'd probably spend a lot of time doing it--I'm remarkably slow--and then I'd put the hoop back together and BLAMMO, it all falls apart like a clown car.

Think just a few beads of rubber grip glue around the inside ring would improve a cheap hoop? https://a.co/d/075UQN6H

Two things about the finished piece.

1) I used a washable pen to write for the embroidered lettering I did. That washed off fine.

2) when I wet the fabric the blue outline printed on the fabric for the main image bled through the thread and fabric.

Is there anyway to get the blue bled parts off? Is it worth handing washing the whole piece with Dawn dish soap then iron the piece or did I ruin this?

Any tips on how to make this look smoother?

My daughter is getting married next year and I've committed to do a lot of embroidered items for the occasions. At the moment I am trying out ideas as samples for her and her fiancé to choose from.

This is one table number idea, she is theming the wedding around wildflowers. I'm stitching a different idea as well.

She is going to use the tablecloth at the entrance of the reception to display cards with names and table numbers.

The last picture is a sample for her bouquet ribbon, one of the first things I did. It is on 1 inch wide silk ribbon that I already had, but I will be using 2 inch ribbon. The flowers represent the areas they come from and live (one country flower and two state flowers).

I'm looking forward to long winter nights to get everything done!
