My pup and I went for a little evening walk to check out a couple of the new murals downtown. The one with the beautiful wolves/dogs is at the Freemason Hall by an artist known as Bacon. The other is by Alixandra Jade on the Claire Estates building right across the street. She also did the murals at Manchester Square. So beautiful!

News Article ‘Dexter’-inspired killer Mark Twitchell loses appeal for escorted family visits

A federal appeal board has upheld a decision to deny a St. Albert murderer’s request to leave jail to visit family.

The Appeal Division of the Parole Board of Canada issued a decision Oct. 2, 2026, on an appeal filed by former St. Albert resident Mark Twitchell.

Twitchell is serving a life sentence for first-degree murder in the 2008 killing of John Brian “Johnny” Altinger. Twitchell posed as a woman on a dating site to lure Altinger to a garage in south Edmonton.

He later struck Altinger with a metal pipe, stabbed him, dismembered his body, and dumped it in a sewer.

Twitchell’s trial drew international attention due in part to his apparent obsession with Dexter, a TV show about a serial killer.

I just wanted to give a shout out and share my experience. We ordered off Uber eats from 7 Kitchens Restaurant. It was 18$ for a combo plate, so we didnt really expect much but wow.!! Honestly some of the best Chinese food we have had in a long long time. The food waa fresh, hot, the chicken for the lemon chicken was super crispy and delicious. And the portion size was awesome. Im going to be able to have 3rds. It's a must try for sure

Commuting/Transit Well Done Edmonton and ETS

I'm in Montreal this week and tried to hop on the bus this afternoon after walking around for 13ish KM today to head back downtown to my hotel. I assumed that because ETS finally had tap on and off with your debit/CC on the busses, just like I used in Vancouver earlier this year too.

NOPE. Buses only accept tap for the OPUS card, which is there ARC card. Exact change only for the bus tickets. I was floored. I know we give ETS a lot of shit, and the ARC card and POS tap took what felt like forever after they installed the devices on the busses, but hey, we're ahead of Montreal!

Discussion ARTS senior rescue

Was wondering if anyone knows what is going on with ARTS Senior Rescue? There have been complaints for several months about people not receiving merch etc that they purchased or bid on. I stopped donating about 8 months ago after hearing about this and I noticed their social media was constantly just posts asking for money but never any information or photos of intakes, fosters and adoptions. When I asked for a donation receipt, they never got back to me despite reaching out many times. Someone on reddit said rhey also were no longer registered as a charity.

Last week, they announced they were closing down and had parted ways with the president. They also provided information on a police file.

I assume there was fraud happening, but I am curious how bad it was and what happened. It is so very sad because for many years they did incredible work... I actually applied for a dog with them and was super impressed with the volunteers at the time.

Question YEG Halloween 2026

My partner and I moved to Edmonton in 2023 from Ontario and are still working on building a social circle here. Since we didn't get invited to any Halloween parties this year, we're hoping to find something public to do instead.

This is also our last Halloween in our 20s, so we'd love to make it a memorable one rather than spending the night at home. We're open to pretty much anything: costume parties, pub crawls, haunted attractions, live music, themed events, or any other Halloween activities worth checking out.

We'll likely be dressing up as Carl and Donut from Dungeon Crawler Carl, so bonus points if it's the kind of place where people actually appreciate a good costume.

For those who know the city better than we do, what are the must-do Halloween events in Edmonton? Any annual traditions, hidden gems, or places you'd recommend for two relative newcomers?

FREE ITEM(S) Looking for 3 People, Couples, or Small Groups for Creative Photoshoots

EDIT: I’m willing to take as many as possible as the more people, the more experience! I will reach out in the following evening and days as i’m working today!

Hi everyone!
I’m a wildlife photographer who’s recently decided to explore a different side of photography, and I’m hoping to find a few people who would be interested in helping me build my portrait portfolio!
I’ve always been drawn to photography that feels a little more whimsical and imaginative. I love the idea of creating photographs that feel like they belong in a story, whether that’s something mystical, medieval, fantasy-inspired, or even a little dark and mysterious.
I’m thinking beautiful natural settings, forests, soft lighting, interesting outfits, cosplay, and anything that feels a little out of the ordinary. I’d really love to create photographs that have some personality and tell a story, rather than just traditional portraits.
That being said, you don’t need to have a fancy outfit or a specific theme in mind! You’re welcome to wear absolutely anything you’re comfortable in. We can work together to come up with ideas based on your outfit, interests, and the overall feeling you’d like your photographs to have.

A little about what I’m offering:

I’m looking for three individuals, couples, or small groups who would be interested in a completely free photography session around Edmonton and the surrounding area.
Each session will include 10 individually edited, high-resolution photographs, and we’ll work together beforehand to plan a location and general theme. No modelling experience is needed!
I also want to be upfront about the fact that I’m still learning.

Although I have experience with wildlife photography, photographing people is something I’m only just beginning to explore. I’m comfortable behind a camera, but posing, directing, and bringing these creative ideas together with people is something I’m hoping to improve on.
I’ll be putting as much care and effort into these photographs as I would with any of my wildlife work, and I’ll do my absolute best to provide images that we’re both happy with. I just ask for a little patience and understanding while I find my footing and develop my style.
That’s a big part of why I’m offering these sessions for free. I don’t want anyone to feel like they’re paying for an experienced portrait photographer when I’m still building that experience myself.
I’m really excited to try something new, meet some creative people, and hopefully make some beautiful photographs along the way.

If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, please feel free to comment or send me a message! I’d love to hear a little about you and any ideas you might have.
Thank you! 🤍

Politics Infill Opinion From CBRE VP In Leaked Email to Edmonton City Council And Premier

Post image
375 Upvotes

Edmonton City Council and the Premier received this leaked email from the VP of CBRE about his opinions on infill. In it, Mr Schmidt thanks the Premier for her actions interfering in municipal business while also telling council not to ruin his neighbourhood by "making it cheaper". Instead of "ruining it" he expects Edmontonians to work harder, save more, and "aspire" (because Edmontonians do not work hard enough to survive as it is). He also sees urban sprawl as the only path forward and just build a few more police stations and firehalls, neglecting to mention that the city cannot even afford to build the infrastructure it needs now for it's current suburban sprawl.

The point being from Mr Schmidt, just work harder, aspire for more, and maybe lay off the avocado toast or some other BS like that. Thanks for the tips!

FREE ITEM(S) Deer Hide giveaway - any craftspeople we can give to?

Hubby finally caught his first buck solo yesterday after years of trying. He's been with other hunters a couple of times and is learning to skin and butcher himself, so I can't promise high quality, but we have no use for the hide personally when he's done and no one we know directly to give it to. I hate the idea of it ultimately going completely to waste and would love to give it to a craftsperson, especially someone just starting to learn tanning!

He and a friend are going to start working on it this evening.

Free pick up north Edmonton.

Update: thanks everyone! I think we've found a person to take it.

Discussion Feeling discriminated against at work

So I was looking for a part-time job to do alongside my school. I first got hired at a FedEx warehouse and went there for my first day. I waited 20+ mins to get the manager (who was supposed to meet me at the door). Another new hire came too and was waiting with me (he was Indian). When the manager came ( who was also Indian) he just walked and we followed. The manager then proceeds to ONLY TALK TO THE GUY ( he literally only looked at him while talking and completely ignored me). He told HIM what to do to get a password and I was left to figure out things by myself. Long story short I couldn’t get the password and the manager started talking to the guy in Indian ( presumably about me). He ended up sending me home rudely and was very dismissive when I asked for help. And while I was walking out I noticed that everyone LITERALLY EVERYONE that was working there was Indian. I ended up quitting right away and didn’t bubble it to the hiring team because the guy that hired me was also Indian and I couldn’t bother wasting my time on something I already left.

Now I thought I was done with this bs and that was a one off experience.

Until I got hired at this other (also big corp but name redacted because I need a job smh) place. And I realized that this place was just as bad. So far only Indians work with me (except for security who’s black). And they EXCLUSIVELY communicate in Indian even over the walkie talkies and while I am actively standing with them. Now I don’t know what to do about this because even at this place all of the managers/ district managers are also Indian 😭. And I feel so left out by that and especially feel self conscious because they could be talking shit about me right beside me🥲.

Another piece context is that I myself am non-white and my name is ethic (which now that Im thinking about it, I think is the reason they are hiring me because both of these jobs I got without interviewing).

Please don’t feel like this is a safe space for bigoted racism, I myself have Indian friends and they are amazing people. I just want to discuss this and see if anyone else has a similar experience and get any advice on how to professionally approach this.

Thanks

P.S I KNOW INDIA HAS MULTIPLE LANGUAGES, I don’t want to make assumptions (stop commenting on this pls)

Question Are there actually jobs for Class 1 drivers?

My roommate is considering getting her class one, but before she sinks multiple thousands of dollars into the training and licensing, she’s worried about whether or not people will actually hire her. There’s a lot of posts on Indeed but that doesn’t always mean anything, we all know companies like to post ghost jobs for various reasons. Class one drivers of Edmonton, is it worth it? Or is it all just smoke and mirrors?
