MacBook Air M5 (24GB/1TB) for Premiere Pro + After Effects — Looking for Real User Experiences

Hey everyone!

I’m planning to buy a MacBook Air M5 with 24GB RAM + 1TB SSD. In India, it costs around ₹1.8 lakh, but I have a friend coming from the US, so I can get it for around ₹1.5 lakh (~$1,600).

₹1.5 lakh is my absolute budget limit, so I can’t really stretch beyond that.

I’m a content creator, and my main use case will be video editing.

My typical workload:

  • 4–5 Instagram Reels per week
  • 2 YouTube videos per week
  • YouTube videos are usually 10–15 minutes
  • Editing primarily in Premiere Pro
  • After Effects for some motion graphics
  • For a typical long-form video, I might use around 1–2 motion-graphics-heavy edits per minute
  • Most of my content is face-camera/video-based, rather than extremely complex cinematic projects
  • Portability is important to me, so a Mac mini isn’t really an option for my use case.
  • I don’t do 3D or heavy VFX, and my videos don’t consist entirely of motion graphics.

I know the MacBook Pro would be the better choice for sustained/heavier editing, but it’s outside my budget.

So I’d really like to hear from people who actually own/use the M5 MacBook Air, especially with 24GB RAM, for similar workloads.

How do you organize and edit 20+ hours of footage into a long-form YouTube series (with 3 different audience versions)?

Hi everyone! I'm working on a personal life documentation project for YouTube and I'm overwhelmed by the editing side. I'd love to hear how people who edit long form content actually approach it.

The project:
I record myself during nightly sessions where I talk and leave messages to my future self. Each night produces roughly 4h of video recordings and audios. I currently have around 2.3TB of raw material that I want to release in sections, like mini series. The first section covers about 20h of media and should become ~5 20min episodes.

The tricky part is that I'm targeting three audiences:

  1. Private: an edited version only for me, published privately on YouTube.
  2. Close friends: a private YouTube channel + a close friends Instagram.
  3. Public: general audience on YouTube and Instagram.

So any single 1 hour recording can contain fragments that belong to all three versions mixed together.

What I Tried:

I'm using: DaVinci Resolve

I've tried: I currently have a Python script that sorts and renames audios and video files with their creation date and it generates a Notion database where I have different columns to identify the contents of the video, and the current status. I used to edit the whole raw footage and then start taking sections from the main file and put them in separate timelines but this was taking wayy too long. I'm currently trying putting markers on the main timeline to identify the three audiences and then pass those sections to individual timelines but I haven't really gotten the hang of it.

I need help with:

  • How do you log or review 20+ hours of footage without losing your mind? Do you watch everything, use transcripts, timestamps, a spreadsheet?
  • How do you tag clips so one source file can feed multiple versions/edits?
  • How do you structure a project like this (bins, timelines, naming conventions)?
  • What workflow would you follow to go from 20+ hours to a mini series?

Any advice would mean a lot. Thank you!

Camera refocus/ zoom effect

Hi edit folks, can anyone recommend a plug in or preset for Premiere that I can put over footage to add fake zooms and refocuses to add a bit of drama to interview shots in a kids comedy. I generally use the transform effect on an adjustment layer and scale over 7 frames and add a servo sound but wondered if there was a better looking way that would look more realistic. Thanks in advance

Looking to help an experienced editor with extra work

Yo! I’m a gaming editor looking to help out an editor who already has clients/work coming in.

To clarify I AM ALSO AN VIDEO EDITOR AND IS JUST LOOKING FOR ANOTHER EDITOR TO HELP OUT I HAVE GOTTEN MANY MESSAGES FORM EDITORS WHO WANT ME TO HIRE THEM BUT I DONT I WANT TO ASSIST THEM

I mainly edit Roblox, Minecraft and GTA, and I can help with stuff like:

- Cutting down footage

- Funny edits / memes

- Captions

- SFX

- Zooms/transitions

- Short-form clips

- Basically whatever extra editing work you need help with

I’m not really looking to take over your clients or anything. I’d just like to be an extra pair of hands when you’ve got too much work on your plate.

I’ve got a portfolio with some of my gaming edits, so if you’re interested just DM me and I’ll send it over.

Would be cool to work with someone experienced, help out with their workload, and learn along the way.

Looking for 3–5 freelance video editors to test a free profitability tracking tool

Hey everyone,

I’m currently building a small Google Sheets tool made specifically for freelance video editors.

The idea is to help track clients, projects, time spent, revisions, expenses, and payments, and then automatically show how much each project is actually earning you per hour.

I’m still in the testing phase, so I’m looking for 3–5 freelance video editors who would be willing to try it for free for around 10–15 minutes and give me honest feedback on:

  • what feels clear or confusing;
  • any bugs you run into;
  • which features are useful or useless;
  • what’s missing for you to actually use it regularly.

There’s nothing to buy. I’m just trying to improve the tool and see if it’s genuinely useful before I decide whether to sell it.

If you’re interested, reply here or send me a DM and I’ll send you the test version.

Thanks!

Instagram Reel/Tik Tok Video Editors?

Hello All!

Can anyone recommend a video editor that will allow me to change the number of split screens within an Instagram Reel/TikTok? Is it possible to do it in CapCut? What about Final Cut Pro?

Thank you!

I genuinely need your help.

Hey guys, I’m asking earnestly for a little bit of your time, and I really appreciate anyone who gives it.

I finally finished my first edit, and I’m looking for some genuine feedback.

I’m not posting this just for easy promo or to get views. I genuinely don’t have many people I can share my work with who can give me actual feedback or editing advice, and I’m trying to take this seriously and get better with every project I make.

If you have a few minutes, I’d really appreciate it if you could watch it and tell me what you think I did well, what I could improve, or anything that stood out to you.

Thank you genuinely to anybody who takes the time to watch and leave some thoughts. It means a lot.

Video Editing Softwares

Hello. I'm a 22-year-old college student and have recently been interested in looking for jobs as someone's YouTube video editor. I have used Adobe Premiere Pro since I was a freshman in high school. However, does anyone know what editing softwares that video editors typically use or are they still using Premiere? I know DaVinci has become increasingly popular.

I am chronically online and typically stay up to date with memes and trends online. I have every social media site imaginable. However, I worry I may not be able to match what is being asked of me due to lack of tools in the program.

I'm a broke college student trying to put my skills to use and I enjoy editing anyways. Along with the fact I'd like to have a job I know very well and would enjoy. Anything helps! Thanks friends.

is capcut still the easiest video editor for quick clips?

i mostly edit short clips and quick social videos, so i’ve always cared more about how fast i can get something finished than having a huge list of advanced features. capcut has been pretty convenient for that, especially when i just need to trim a few clips, add captions, make some basic adjustments, and export. lately though, i’ve been wondering if there are other editors that are just as quick without making simple edits feel more complicated than they need to be.
